Late starting artist over here, I'm pretty much forced to appeal to gen alpha? Considering by the time I'll get to a /pro/ level we'll already be in the 2030s and zoomers will pretty much stop being the dominant internet force, I'm honestly worried the art I want to make will be considered "dated" and struggle more to get an audience compared to the present if I actually was skilled
You'll come to find throughout your life, that some people will always come up with an excuse to not do something. Age just so happens to be the most convenient, self pitying and self loathing excuse. In a way it takes all accountability and away. "I can't do X because I'm Y years old, it's too late for me."You're going to get old no matter what. Literally everybody will die. Everybody. They've put out studies that even show that neurogenesis doesn't stop in adults, so pointing the excuse of how you're too old to learn is moot. It really comes down to you needing to self reflect and understand what it is you truly want anon. What do you want? Do you want this? Do you truly want this? Then start by defining a concrete goal. That's where most people get lost. They say they want to be an artist, okay, I mean, there's so many different kinds of artists. A con artist? A pick up artist? Illustrator? AI jeet? How would you get to your goal? What can you do to bring you one step closer today? It can be as simple as just figuring out what it is exactly that you want.
>>7742639kids today think anime is some cool thing their parents didn't have...
>>7742639True art doesn't become dated you numbskull.
>>7742690JJK and Demon slayer tho, not actual classic 90s and 2000s non-shounenslop anime
>>7742639>I'm pretty much forced to appeal to gen alpha?Just appeal to yourself. We live in a shitty time, culturally and media wise (except for videogames, which the indie scene is hard carrying), but even then I'm sure there's still plenty of new things that appeal to you. Good taste never goes out of fashion.
Shouldn't you be the opposite? Trying to be the first in on a trend, and make something unique that nobodys made before. I mean I'm currently obsessive about getting my political thrillers comics out cause I think that eventually, somebody may have a similar ideas to me, so I gotta get them done fast
>>7742639Anon, it's simple. You draw because it's fun. Too many people are conditioned by social media, YouTube, and algorithms to believe that art must be more than just a pleasure or a hobby - that it must be some "competition" or skill to master. As the great Yui-chan would posit: "Fun things are fun." DeviantART in its peak years in the late 00's and early 10's allowed me to see art as fun and pro artists as inspiration rather than people to be jealous of. I didn't even know what the fundamentals were at the time, I just drew characters that were living in my mind because it made me happy. And that's what I still do today with almost no online presence. In other words: Just draw.
