>I had hope for the past 10 years there would be a resurgence of painted movie posters
I think there will be a resurgence for highly illustrative movie posters (and more illustration in general) but... honestly it's probably going to be thanks to AI that that's going to happen.
Hopefully if such a trend happens, it makes people more interested in visual art as a whole and creates plenty of jobs and opportunity within the industry, rather than just prompting shit.
You would hope creatives would want to work with fellow creatives, but I feel somewhat grim about such things; just look at how quickly 'indie' musicians were to plunge the knife into the back of illustrators and graphic designers.

>>
>>7759151
AI can't do highly illustrative so it wouldn't be any cheaper than bashjobs, pricier in all likelihood since bashing would be a necessary step in the process, and that's ignoring the copyright issues.
Second, posters are fucking worthless because nobody learns about movies from posters or even goes to the cinema anymore, which is why they're closing everywhere, thumbnails on streaming services are tiny and not served by complexity.
>>
One of the best ever. He had an ability to make even the basic 'stacked heads style' the studios almost always wanted from him appealing. He mogs everyone else as far as movie posters from the 70's onwards. He pretty much invented a new style that's been copied for 40 years. Idk what to call it but you know when you see it. The 'pseudo-painting' style of coloured pencil and airbrush and splatter.
>>
I love this early Star Wars poster from Drew even if it's not the style he would use for most of his illustrations. It's a pastiche of Leyendecker like his album cover for Alice Cooper, and some other illustrations from before the movie posters really took off. I was obsessed with this image for a while recently. How their robes read as white even if it's mostly light purple and yellow. I really like how their skin tones are renderd. Leia looks cute as lace pants and Luke kinda looks dumb but also heroic. Somehow Drew managed to make what could've been a static image feel like there's real potential energy in it, like they're just about to swing on that rope. Princess Leia and Luke are presented better here than the other posters for epIV, fits the actual movie better and reflects the (even at the time) retro swashbuckling feel of Star Wars. I feel this is one of the purest SW illustrations ever.

>nobody learns about movies from posters or even goes to the cinema anymore
I heavily suspect that film companies will change their deals with streaming services at some point.
Their box office returns (cinema releases) is their biggest money maker, and the physical home releases were not too far behind that - streaming services completely fucked their business by releasing their movies far too quickly after release on them.
Why go to the cinema if it's on netflix next month?
Why buy the physical release when you can just stream it?
They've essentially whittled two major sources of income down to one rather lousy source of income, and it just doesn't cover the costs the same way their previous system did.

So I think, at some point soon, the film industry is going to drastically change how they interact with streaming services.
... At least, if there's any brains left in that industry.

>thumbnails on streaming services are tiny and not served by complexity.
I'm not so sure. I don't use streaming services often, but at least with games, the thumbnails/keyart is a big factor for me taking a better look at a game. Though I know netflix just uses random screenshot rather than custom made thumbnails, so perhaps they're shooting themselves in the dick in that regard?

you're out of touch and operating on headcanon
they release on streaming so quickly because the viewings drop off a cliff and cinemas don't pay for further screenings because it's a waste of money
sinners was a massive hit and didn't last two weeks before running out of steam, and it was a month and a half until it hit streaming
theaters are for boomers basically, people don't want loud niggers around when they're watching a movie

>they release on streaming so quickly because the viewings drop off a cliff and cinemas don't pay for further screenings because it's a waste of money
And I'm arguing that this is caused by their bad distribution with streaming services. Did you miss the part were I asked why people would go to the movies if a film is going to be released on the streaming service next month?
What if there streaming services were excluded from a film's distribution for some years before receiving it? What if the only way to watch the film was to either catch it in cinemas or to get a home release (that isn't streaming)?
Would this increase their ticket sales?... Maybe, maybe not, but their business isn't healthy as is.

>and it was a month and a half until it hit streaming
You're making my point for me, that's basically no time at all.

>theaters are for boomers basically, people don't want loud niggers around when they're watching a movie
Which is why they could have home releases that aren't streaming, but bring more profit than streaming does, like DVDs and Bluerays used to - even just Digital Film Purchases are better than what they're currently doing.
Also, re-read my comment, where did I say they need to go back to cinemas? I said that cinemas and home releases were their bread and butter, and where they made their biggest profits, and that's still the case (for cinemas, they basically destroyed their home release profits), but they've fucked things because of streaming.
They need to fix their income, and that may mean going back to cinemas and being more exclusive when it comes to streaming, or it could be a different tact, but regardless, I wasn't speculating anything beyond them changing their relationship with the streaming services.

>try using your brain, it helps
Very Classy.
Anyway, I'm guessing you're alluding to your picrel... which proves what exactly? That Netflix uses the posters in their advertising? Why didn't you use a screenshot from their actual service to prove they use the posters?
Also, even if netflix DOES use the posters as their thumbnails, how does that change MY SUBJECTIVE experience with keyart/thumbnails?

Show me where I ever made that argument, mongoloid.
Why would you ever even think that was an argument anyone would make?
You have no right to call anyone "retard" when you're this lacking mentally.
>>
>>7759469
That's what the discussion is about, you ESL fucking brownoid. Your subjective experience is fucking irrelevant to the discussion and you're the only nigger dumb enough to fail to realize that.

You really are a fucking retard.

>you ESL fucking brownoid.
Ah, the classic sign of seething from a retarded anon; calling someone an "esl".
Just because you have low reading comprehension, doesn't mean what I'm writing doesn't make sense.

>no there won't because XYZ
And what were those XYZ's dipshit?
The fact that movies earn most of their profits from ticket sales?
The fact that the lucrative home media market has been destroyed?
The fact that streaming simply does not cover the profit losses from either of those markets being wrecked?
The fact that AI now generates images and will have an impact of visual trends going forward, possibly including movie posters?
Oh, but because I said 'I think' or 'I feel'... so everything is just my feelings, and all speculation made through these facts is made irrelevant, I guess...
You're fucking retarded. Why are you even on this site if you don't won't to read others opinions and speculations on things?

Also, at no point did you state this was about my personal opinion specifically, like you apparently are claiming now. It's obvious and desperate cope from a low IQ faggot trying to find a way to "win" the argument.
If everything you're saying is based on 'facts & logic', why don't you blow my speculations out of the water with some facts (with cited references) that counter them?
I'd tell you to eat a dick, but I'd prefer if you ate lead actually.

Anyway, I'm sick of responding to you, so unless your next post shows even a single digit of IQ (a high bar for a retard like you), I simply won't.

Just commercial traced photographs he then paints. I guess its ok, but theres nothing overly impressive or noteworthy beyond them being posters for popular movies. Like, congrats, you have photographs of the actors you traced and painted.

the design works (keep in mind the studios probably had the pick) and it's well illustrated.
It's not his best SW work but since Struzan had already retired and they didn't even give him the actual real main poster, but a B-tier poster that wan't really seen by anyone he might've done it more quickly and it's still the best poster for that movie. And it's actually a different design to all six main posters of the previous SW films he did, so your complaint of the same design repeating goes out the window.
btw he's pretty much the inventor of this style of poster that became really popular only because of him. What the fuck have you done with your art.
>>
