I like the colours, but I don't think line quality is the biggest problem here. The face is very flat and the boobs are too high up. Also the dark colours should be darker but I'm also guilty of pussiyng out of dark darks

lo, my finest creation, that tiny head on the left. i’ve been trying to improve my art, starting with heads, and i can make some almost not trash ones like in picrel. i want to draw like the pic on the right, but i can barely get my own heads right, god forbid i try to copy someone else’s. it’s been so frustrating, even when i try applying what i’ve learned towards copying someone else’s head, i can’t even manage getting the basic shapes down accurately. everyone says to practice by copying, but i just can’t seem to do it, and idk how i’ll get better at that artstyle without copying it. so i’m feeling really stuck :/
>>
>>7770646
nvm that head is just trash, god i feel so embarrassed wtf
>>
>>7770646
Believe it or not there is someone worse than you with heads here.
>>
>>7770649

ya i’ll keep trying, it’s just so overwhelmingly discouraging when it keeps turning out lopsided and wrong though :(
>>

I mean i am a permabeg but sometimes you just keep doing things over and over and something clicks.

In my case i get visited by a man in my dreams who advices me and tells me how to do stuff.
>>
>>7770465
Most beginners tend to draw stiff figures, so it's good for practing gesture so your figures have more movement/flow to them. Dont get stuck only doing quick figures. Some things you can only learn while doing longer drawings, so a mix of both quick, medium and long figure drawings is better.

Overlay and compare
Do it again

You have to fail and then try again. That's a minimum requirement. You're not going to get anything perfect on the first go yet. You have to learn to look at that failure and be able to do it again. Failure is good, it meant you tried and you can do it again

For hair you wanna designate and consciously partition the different sections. In this case I decided blue is the top/back basically just a extension of the skull note the small partition ridge on the top of her head this is where your strands of hair origin from. Green are the bangs they all lead to that little hair ridge i mentioned previously. Purple is the ponytail. You'll have a much easier time doing lineart for your hair if its general shape is blocked in.

Yeah but how am I supposed to know when to even do that, and to change them by how much? Do I use a shorter line when doing that? How do I know how to modify it when changing the angle of the face? Idk. No one explains this shit, they just tell you to do the loomis method, draw some examples, and don’t bother explaining anything past how you’d do it for an ideal face in a neutral position.

You just eyeball it and look at the result. Ended up too short? Lengthen it next time. And vice versa.

Gestimate. Loomis is nothing more than a suggestion, as his method is one of many. What may work for you, may not work for others, and vice versa. Some people stick strictly to theirs, some just use it as a way to *guide* you on your way to the final product. It's nothing to obsess over.

it's an assignment from krenz color and light course:
the idea is to have 3 refs: one for environmental light (top), one for character (mid), and one for pose / shadow terminator (bot)
then you make something new with them

The reason the markers are there (for some) is to also allow for facial diversity, if you're that type of artist. Some proportions appeal more than others. My method isn't Loomis, but it works for me.

Am I just supposed do 3 billion of these caveman drawings and my brain will understand how the fuck I'm supposed to use the line of action to guide the rest of the drawing?

There are a fucking waste of time if you are too beg to understand what you are even doing and what you are trying to portray with the limited time you have.
Grab a book on figure drawing, Bargue if you cant copy for shit and learn how to draw a human body even if it takes you hours or days.
Once you learn how to bring a figure drawing from beginning to end you should try to make it as humanly fast as possible during gesture (which is a retarded faggot esoteric bullshit word.
Your timed drawings should be able to portray
>Proportions
>Biggest forms.
>Exaggerated motion if there is (it will inevitably stiffen once you keep working on it)
>Some way to identify where forms are facing (lineweight, basic shading, etc)

So I just ignore how long I take and ignore gesture drawing for now? The proko course I'm using for figure drawing starts with gesture so I had imagined that's like fundamental to figure drawing and you need to learn it before doing anything else

Don't listen to the crabs. If you are following a proko course they should've shown you their gesture method right? There is also no right or wrong way to do a gesture. You could start with a simple stick figure, maybe add a ribcage and a pelvis. Something like this.

Yeah. It gets more into showing you how to get the figure drawing down bit by bit in the next parts, but the first one is just gesture. I think I'm just going to apply what drawabox says about just progressing to the next part even if what you're doing right now looks bad.
