>draw my cute kemono ocs>show to my friend>want to post online>but i'm totally going to put them in a game someday and i don't want them to be seen as "ocs" so i can't>repeat>can't actually come up with a story for them
>>7776979i have like 4 ocs, 3 of them ive had for years, never came up with a story for them. i get it dawg its hard
>>7776979Its incredible some of you guys, I come up with stories accidentaly and the only reason I dont do anything with them is because Im lazy. How can you NOT come up with a story for an OC? Have you never made up stories playing with your toys when you were a kid? Whats wrong with you?
>>7777019are your stories wacky nonsense where stupid funny shit happens or actual storiesthat's all I can come up withit has to work for a video game too which makes it 5x as hard
>>7777034>are your stories wacky nonsense where stupid funny shit happens or actual storiesBoth. Bold of you to assume that stories where wacky nonsense and stupid funny shit happens cant be actual stories, that speaks wonders of your narrow mind. Why does it have to be a videogame, do you know how hard is to make a game, let alone a good one? Gameplay ALWAYS comes first, no matter the genre, why are you putting so much emphasis on the plot? Youre making a game, not a movie or a book, there are a hundred more things that act in cohesion with the plot in a game.
>>7777041they can but i also can't make a stupid and wacky story with my characters unless they are also stupid and wacky, which these specific ones are notand yes i do know how hard it is to make a game, i've already made a fewwould you say the story in deltarune isn't the most important part when the entire game is a means to show whatever fucked up shit was in toby fox's fever dream
>>7777055>i've already made a fewIll take the bait and assume youre not larping. If thats true then you should know that the plot is subjugated to the gameplay, the plot of Chrono Trigger is not compatible with Animal Crossing and vice versa, so with that in mind, what is the genre of the game you want to make with this set of OCs.I knew youd bring DR up, so as a counter argument, Disgaea and Mario and Luigi, both are different flavors of RPGs, both tend to have light and lol so random stories and both have a gameplay first approach. DR is an exceptional case due to all the circumstances sorrounding it, you cant expect your game to have all those circumstances in your favor, or are you going to tell me that you are a well known, successful developer with one of the most annoying fanbases on the face of the Earth following you? If that was the case you wouldnt be here asking how to come up with a story for your set of nobodies.Back on track: Ask why a lot of times in a row, after doing that enough times you will have a background for your character/s, with that you can make a background for the world itself and after that you can make a proper plot from A to B. It doesnt have to be a good or complex story, you are making entertainment, and as long as what you do is entertaining (for the good OR for the bad) its fine, again, the examples I listed earlier.
>>7777061platformer or rpg, possibly a combinationthe story in the games i already made also started from a dream but it was stupid and wacky and the characters in it were made when i was a kidi can come up with personalities and such but i just can't come up with something for these "serious" ocs to actually do even if i have possible story themes in mind, i can't even get a dream to have them in it, i've tried to think about them as i go to sleep and nothing ever happens
>>7776979>can't actually come up with a story for themlets workshot some ideas fren, what you thinking?
>>7777074Well unless you want to do a soap opera like Super Paper Mario or have a Dark Souls approach then you will have to do with a simple plot, platformers dont give room for much more. Why does have to be dream based, are you stupid? Again, Roberts case was basically lightning in a bottle, you can expect to replicate his circumstances. Robert dreamt the most important part of a story, the ENDING, (You) have nothing of the sort, endings are the north that a story must always follow. You have shown nothing about these supposed characters, Im with the other dude, you will have to show what you have if you want actual help.
>>7776979god dammit anon, don't make me have second thoughts, I literally just made an account yesterday to post original content while I work on my webcomic script
>>7776979>but i'm totally going to put them in a game someday and i don't want them to be seen as "ocs" so i can'tAnd? If you're posting an OC, it's not like every game company and indie is going to suddenly see and steal your OC. The only issue is that your OC is possibly so unique and interesting that it'd be a trend setter, and would become significantly less original should others copy it. So... is it that original? And on the slim chance that someone did actually steal your character and put it in a game or something, it'd essentially destroy their credibility, and doesn't stop you from still using your character - and it should be noted that I've never heard of a case where a company has stolen someone's character, though I'm sure it's happened, it's just so rare that I've never heard of an example.
>>7777083i was thinking more cave story, and because almost every good/funny idea i've ever had came from a dreami do kind of have half an ending in mind but it's been 5 years and i haven't been able to come up with anything that makes sense to lead to it and the more i think about it the less it seems like something that *can* make sensemaybe i should do drugs>>7777086if you're making a webcomic script then you have the story already right, this situation doesn't apply to you>>7777089they're not necessarily "unique" but i think they're pretty well designed after being refined for half a decadei also have almost no social media presence and i don't really want to ironically, it might be easier to rip someone off who just silently pops in with a new drawing once or twice a month
>>7777098Cave Story is not a specially deep story either. But sure, go with that.So are you going to share ANYTHING AT ALL? I am running out of vague advice to give you, you clearly dug yourself into a hole here.
>>7777098>if you're making a webcomic script then you have the story already right, this situation doesn't apply to youit kinda does when I have no pages to show, to the public they may as well be ocs
>>7777103i just wanted to see if anyone else was in similar situations really not discuss the game aspect of it in depth sorryi don't know how to make anything that isn't comedic even if i want to is the point
>>7776979>i don't want them to be seen as "ocs" so i can'tI don't understand the hang ups.
>>7777122i kinda get it, just the sorta OC stigma thats been online since the 2010s. i think theres a certain pressure in their mind aswell to make the characters more of a 'surprise' and more intertwined with the game instead of them feeling like OCs that happen to be in a game. would mario feel the same if he was just nintendos mascot and suddenly had a game?
>>7777019creating a character design=/= story telling abilities. nooot hard to understand
>>7777134>OC stigma that's been online since the 2010sdeviantART hasn't been this relevant (where this dumb gay retarded stigma originated), just do what you know, at worst you're simply going to improvise and fix it later in the future
>>7777177dawg im just saying theres some level of stigma around it, even if no one cares anymore theres still that idea of it. why you over reacting
omg nobody cares if you dont have a 10000 page novel nobody was going to read anyways lmfao the only people who keep trying to beat artists over the head over muh ocs need le deep lore bullshit are literal autists
