What do you do to help you endure the brutally tedious process of doing linework?
>>
i dont find it tedious

>>7793758
I draw pretty fast and loose.

WDYM tedious? Linework is perhaps the best part!(that comes from a B&W/grayscale enthusiast btw). As a suggestion if I were in your place Id try to see it as that challenging prerequisite you must complete to then indulge in coloring if you favor color over monochrome. Befriend the linework anon, it is your first friend on the paper/screen.

Sketching and rendering is the only part I like. And even that becomes a chore when I'm doing something that requires precision.
>>
People who hate "linework" invariably just can't draw, and need to work on that. It isn't some mystery. It's like being a writer and hating words.

Sometimes I animate stuff to remember that no matter how much something sucks, I only have to do it once
>>
Lol just make blobs with color and erase the edges until you get a shape
Congrats you did linework without lines
>>
>>7793758
Enjoy it. Find the right brush. Depends purely on the medium used. Traditional medium I use ink pens which makes ti pretty fast, but I love drawing in general, so linearting is especially calming.

Digitally, I mess with some settings to make the brush "feel good" to draw. Adjust the stabilizer, practice your line drawings for more consistent lines and less repetitive motions (those faggots that redraw a line upwards of 8 times lmao), and a texture that looks nice.

I think it might also boil down to you either like it or hate it.
>>
>>7793758
In sketching, I don't sketch with lines, I sketch with large brushes to lay in the largest, simplest shape forms.
>>
>>7793758
the line phase of my artwork is no joke. a normal person would never enjoy it or be able to endure it without suicide.
so, I liken it to forging a samurai sword. and use the same principles. in a word, autism.

...lineart is hard for you guys? I can't render for shit.
>>

I can draw well, but I hate drawing things twice.

>hate doing linework + bad at it

>>
>>7793758
If it's tedious then I watch something on the second monitor while I go through it
If linework is hard to you then your sketch sucks or you need to turn on brush stabilizer
>>
>>7793758
listen to podcasts or audiobooks
>>
Skip the sketch phase
>>
linework is the most relaxing and enjoyable part for me. i fucking hate rendering.
>>
>>7793951
When it comes to painting over a sketch I always struggle with faces and eyes.
Should I paint them over too? Or should I make a new layer with refined eyes? Or just try to use a sketch?
>>
>>7794564
Then memorize the successful lines of your sketch, look for the "ideal" ones, remember them as if it was your signature, I think this where those hide channel line study exercises make sense, you want to ace your lines first try, but ironically it requires repetition (but much more focused), having good control of your lines and being able to recognize patterns and proportions.
>>
>>7794571
Cleaning takes *way* more time than just redrawing over the sketch layer.
>>7798860
>If linework is hard to you then your sketch sucks or you need to turn on brush stabilizer
The quality of the sketch have nothing to do with it. The problem is that it's just plain boring to go over the same lines a second time.
>>
>>7794571
I just do this, but to be fair my inital sketch is usually pretty neat. once i'm done cleaning up I do the "inking" on the same layer with a thicker pen and I end up with lines i'm quite happy with. of course i'm still a dirty little /beg/ so take what I say with a grain of salt.
>>
lineart is the only fun part of drawing. I need a tutorial on how to color efficiently and quickly. I'm so tired of carefully tracing my drawing multiple times to fill in colors because I always go outside the lines or leave white pixels everywhere. coloring takes 5x longer than lineart so when I color something, I could have been drawing something else. I'm this close to just using ai to color my shit.
>>
>>7793758

switch to pixel art, or animating in blender. you'll never do lineart again, but find at least 5 other things to complain about on your first day.
>>
if you hate lineart you're high iq enough to understand that just painting is a more natural and intuitive way to work

try to do: sketch, colors underneath, have good color/value plan and merge all your layers pretty soon. add lines where needed. eventually you can just switch to painting freely. lineart is the most copium pointless procrastination thing i have ever witnessed and believing in it has destroyed so many art careers. either that or its just a filter

but that tedium you feel while doing it is the drawing begging for you to stop raping it with these disgusting unneeded lines while probably not even understanding that a line can only really convey contrast and ambient occlusion because some idiot online told you to do it
>>
>>7800341
I think line art is more of a filter. Yes, it's extremely boring, but I think that if you manage to master it you can draw so many things much more quickly than going through all the process of painting.
>>
>>7793758
I don't think it's tedious at all. If anything, it's actually relaxing. What the fuck are you in a rush for? Who are you trying to impress by rushing it and not making mistakes?
>>
>>7803740
>What the fuck are you in a rush for?
Nigga my time on this Earth is limited. And my free time? Even more limited.

You really showed how important your time is by posting on 4chan. Retard.
>>
>>7793758
Just tidy-up and go back over your sketchwork rather than do linework then. I know a few artists do that.
>>
>>7803911
Exactly lol
>>
how the fuck do I draw if i'm depressed? I dont even play games anymore, I just sit and stare at the wall. Bills paid, fridge full, and I think I am good at art, but I still feel nothing.
>>
the only reason why lineart is tedious is because we've become obsessed with speed and meeting deadlines, cause it feels like you're not actually doing anything
>>
>>7803911
>You really showed how important your time is by posting on 4chan. Retard.
Are you really this retarded?

>>7804587
I think you're probably right. If there is one thing I have learned about drawing is that good art takes time to make. But I have never been able to come to terms with this. I'm always in a rush. New ideas starts popping in my head and piling up faster than I can finish them. I'm terrified of not being able to bring all of them to life.
>>
>>7799127
yeah generally make a new layer for the face, they need a lot of adjusting. just keep painting over and merging until it looks right
>>
>>7793758
I used to hate it too until I got good at lineweight.
Don't zoom in
>>
>>7804560
you answered your own fucking question bozo shit for brains. and i'm in the same spot because im a blackpilled brainfried gooner veteran.
in case you need it spelled out: you need to appreciate life to appreciate art. being desensitized is basically the very opposite of a typical artist. artists are supposed to give a shit about the smallest of sensations and detail.
>>
>>7793758
This but rendering
>>
>>7793758
if you find it tedious, your process sucks.
unironically pyw, preferably a video/canvas replay of what you're doing.

Insane statement.

Joking. I probably should stop.

>>7807645
I don't know if it's simply a lack of line confidence but I tend to draw lines very slowly which makes the process a pain. I can draw things right if it's something that is within my hand's range of motion. But whenever I have to move my hand across the tablet to draw a line I have to rely on the shape tool. I never had this problem drawing on paper and pencil.
>>
I am the only one that likes to do lineart?
>>
>>7807763
i need more. where's your underdrawing/sketch?
>i have to rely on the shape tool
i use line tool all the time when i need a straight-as-a-ruler line, there's no shame in using it. you can adjust the character of the line by erasing parts of it or shaping it with brush/eraser after you put it down with the line tool.
>I can draw things right if it's something that is within my hand's range of motion
>hand
tablet size? if your tablet is small, you have two options: zoom out and use your hand/wrist, or use the line tool. if your tablet is large enough (think intuos pro large), you can use your arm pretty easily. i have a large that's propped up with a stand, and have no issues using my full arm for long strokes, but that doesn't mean it is perfectly straight or i get it right the first time every time. having an underdrawing with this stuff mostly figured out also helps, hence why id like to see the layer, assuming you have it.

I use a One by Wacom. It's meant to be medium sized. Zooming out helps but it will certainly take a while to get used to it cause I feel like I can't see shit when I zoom out.

I do it with the eraser.
