The title, more than just asking "how to grow followers" I think its better to ask for subjects, I know that the algorithm game is just pure gambling, but surely theres something I can do.

So far Ive noticed that rather than aim for big fandoms, its better to aim for small ones, because if you aim for big ones, theres no reason why anyone would choose you over better and more popular artists, but in small niches its easier to start, in my case, drawing fanart for Mega Man is a safe bet because you are going for a small niche, and you are also drawing something that very few artists want to do, robots and machinery, provided you draw the more robotic and less humanoid characters too, of course. Also Ive also noticed that text is a more or less useful thing to garner attention, be it comics, memes, redraws, what have you, doesnt even have to be particularly good or humorous, just the fact that you stop the person in their tracks to watch your drawing to read what you wrote is enough.

Those 2 are the ones that Ive noticed that kind of work, has anyone found anything else? No use in keeping it to yourselves, we are all trying to make it here.

Draw what you like which also is popular amongst others.

Look for niche ideas/ iterations on others work (make it funny/better looking)
remember people love 2 cakes

If you're good/consistent enough you can really pick any subject.

interact with people you like repost their stuff they might reciprocate

write text that is clever/bait that gets people to reply(I don't do this but it's a useful tactic to get engagement and more people will see and are likely to quote reply)

have consistency, if one post becomes a hit (And eventually you will hit a home run if you post/draw consistently)
Do more of that. Draw a follow up

Branch out but know what people come to you for. Focus on a few key subjects

Have self belief/conviction, actas if you already have # of followers you're aiming for, and draw as if you're already of that quality

What is your end goal?, work with that in mind and remove distractions/noise.

Best of luck anon (I was able to go from 0-4k despite being inconsistent over a 2 years (Though I was totally inconsistent and I think anyone can do what I did as my skill is middling-low)

Images that convey character, as in, they're not just a person floating in a void.
Show a tired person drinking coffee early in the morning, whilst looking miserable because they're not a morning person.
Show them Looking through the glass of a microwave waiting for their tv dinner to cook, which they're eating because they're bad at cooking themselves.
Show them trying to sleep, having kicked off all the covers like a child.

To go back to OP's niche fanart observation, it'd be the difference between a drawing of Megaman just looking cool, or a drawing of Megaman doing repairs on his blaster after a hard battle.

People like nice pictures, but they enjoy nice pictures with some actual meat on the bone more.
Plus, if you do this with your own characters, they become invested in them.

Or you can keep doing drawings of headshots, and girls in a void - I'm not your keeper.
