I've been playing Pokemon Art Academy on 3DS for a little while after having tried out the regular Art Academy on the same console.I've previously tried a bunch of stuff without being able to keep up with my practice, but this is actually kinda working in that regard. I was really happy with the pumpkaboo one (the one on the lower left) because it turned out pretty close to the reference image despite it basically being a freehand trace where I also had to zoom in on the drawing surface while drawing so things weren't the same scale. And I have an original 3DS and not an XL and the pressure-sensitive touch screen isn't that ergonomic. But anyway, will this actually be that useful? Like, I still feel like I just can't bring myself to do something I actually want to do from scratch. It's like a huge gap to bridge I think.
>>7803726Its practice for when you actually do the real thing from scratch, drawing a Milotic from scratch not knowing jack shit about how it works is going to be a pain in the ass, but if you practice with training wheels on that game later on its going to be easier.
>>7803726Speaking of these types of games; Pixel Art Academy looks pretty cool, and since it's teaching a very particular things, rather than the entire realm of drawing, I feel like it'd be a lot more effective in teaching you what it's trying to.(Pic vaguely related.)
>>7803739Yeah I feel like I'm getting better in terms of having better pen control etc. But it just feels difficult to bridge that mental gap and just do it.>>7803776>Pixel Art AcademyOh fuck gotta try this too I guess.
>>7803726Reminds me to actually play the game. Thank you anon for reminding me.
>>7803786It's kinda expensive compared to the regular Art Academy but you can softmod your 3DS and install it through hShop with no extra accessories. Good luck.
The 3DS Art Academy was pretty good. Glad to see I'm not the only one to go down that path. Pokemon Art Academy though I couldn't sit through for long.Sadly not sure the regular game's DLC is even playable anymore because it runs an eshop check. I managed to get it working before the shut down.>>7803776I have got to try this. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, anon.
>>7804084>The 3DS Art Academy was pretty good. Glad to see I'm not the only one to go down that path.I played that too and it was fun, but I'm not really interested in painting so I felt Pokemon Art Academy would be more useful to me. The undo function also makes it more like regular digital art with tablets and stuff.>Sadly not sure the regular game's DLC is even playable anymore because it runs an eshop check. You can get that through hShop as well.
>>7804179Honestly I've been considering starting a Tumblr blog or something like that and post my drawings there every day to kinda track my progress I guess.
>>7803726kinda wish someone tried to make a version of this meant for modern devices
>>7803726sup fellow art academy enjoyer! picrel is from the last time I ran through the game.>But anyway, will this actually be that useful? Like, I still feel like I just can't bring myself to do something I actually want to do from scratch. It's like a huge gap to bridge I think. It is a huge gap but the game is a great starting spot for basically everything you need to know in art. You can't start there and by the time you've done everything be an art god but all the /beg/ skills are taught and tested there. I can vividly remember doing the dorien itan accuracy stuff and then doing the bird on PkAA and my brain expanding practicing measuring by hand. Its so fucking cool.>>7803788It also just works fucking great on citra/lime/azahar>>7804203Same
>>7804237I like how it's a distraction-free environment too. I've been thinking about transferring some reference images to my 3DS and drawing using the freedraw mode. Also I've started turning my console around and stuff when drawing, which I haven't been doing when drawing digitally with my screenless tablet.>doing the bird on PkAA and my brain expanding practicing measuring by handI spent a lot of time trying to get everything accurate on the pumpkin pokemon and it turned out pretty well aside from the shading on the leaves. But the feathers on the bird were really hard to get right.
Did the Snivy lesson. Contour hatching felt really hard. I also used the original drawing as a reference image instead of copying the tutor's outlines. I might eventually start turning off the pre-made basic shapes as well.By the way I couldn't get the 3DS to recognize my imported image despite trying to convert it to use the same encoding settings as the stock images, and transferring a bunch of the metadata using exifinfo. I dunno what's going on.
>>7804179Pokemon Art Academy seems to be geared more towards digital artists from what I played. Painting light applies to cel shading or anything really so it doesn't hurt to get traditional knowledge in.>You can get that through hShop as well.Has the check been cracked? Biggest issue was that it checks the eshop even if downloaded through hshop.Would be a shame if the dlc lessons were rendered unplayable.
>>7805300>Pokemon Art Academy seems to be geared more towards digital artists from what I played.Yeah certainly, it even has an undo feature. A lot of the lessons in New Art Academy don't feel that useful to me as they don't have you draw clear outlines etc.>Has the check been cracked?Just double-checked, the add-on lessons start perfectly fine.
>>7803726I tried emulating this but it ran like shit and I’m not too sure if I wanna open my unused 3ds import to devalue it in case I want to sell it 10 years from now since it’s going on eBay for at least $400 starting.
>>7803726thanks for bringing this up, this is how i will get my 2 yo into art asap
>>7806388Good luck.
>>7806388>>7807010Oh by the way you should get a larger stylus from like AliExpress. Really cheap, it's pressure sensitive unlike later touch screens.
>>7803726the best art academy game is atelier on the wii u
>>7803726What is pokegron, kids?
I should replay this game, see how far I've progressed since last time
