how do you elevate creature designs? do you learn ecology and whatnot before hand to get your idea, or draw something cool first and then elaborate and refine from there?

>>7806473Retarded ass MH design, in game, Arkveld looked like a cross between a bdsm chained woolly mammoth and an owl. The concept art looks far better, but holy shit, does it look like ASS in game. Small details don't really work if it's a subtle design for the MH series.
