is it worth going from the paper and pen to a tablet? granted im still very much a beg. just wanted to know if a tablet is worth it for learning with the tools it provides

Get a cheap small screenless, an Intuos. I still use the small model I bought 7 years ago, they're 40 backs now. Despite what consoomers will say, it's just an input device like a mouse or a keyboard, it's not anything so mystical. If you can't draw on the most basic version, you're not going to suddenly do anything profound on one that costs $500. Then you can upgrade later if you like it.
Keep drawing on paper using simple tools, too. It's cheap and good practice and it opens you to different modes of expression and ways of thinking, compared with digital. I find that when I get stagnant with digital or trad, going to the other shakes me out of my doldrums.

sure, just don't listen to /ic/ on what tablet to get

there are tablets at every budget and it's not like getting a tablet will take your sketchbook away

Sure, it's worth it if you want to do digital art
It's pretty hard to do digital art with a pen and paper

Anything that isn't too small should work. I have an XP pen 15.6 Pro that ended up being used as a regular screenless. My last tablet was the typical cheap small Wacom one, the pen and surface felt decent but I started to feel annoyed about the small size when doing anything but short strokes, and that's because I'm autistic about my hand resting on a flat surface as the moment you touch the corner of your tablet you have that feeling you're now breathing manually, it's hard to ignore.
I'd go for something about the XP Pen size or slightly bigger depending on how you feel about swinging your arm, having a screen didn't do much of a difference for me, I'm guessing those who feel troubled with screenless also dislike something like tank controls in Resident Evil games, which is ironic since I should be on that lot being anal about where my hand rests.

Personally after buying tablet (for reading primarily) and using it for month or two I dont think it provides anything compared to traditional media

If you have less than 3 years of experience drawing, then it’s worth it

sure, if you want to do digital art. it certainly beats scanning and tracing

Digital is convenient as fuck.
But it will never ever ever ever feel as good as trad.
Also screenless tablets are goated asf, dont get memed into buying a screen.

get an used Ipad.

i bought a drawing tablet and i hate how all the fun software is only for apple and ipad.

I bought a Huion touchscreen tablet and it came with a pen and while its great to use, all the digital artists i see livestreaming use Ipads because they are just more accessible and easy to draw on.

you could also just get a $10-20 drawing pad for your desktop/laptop from amazon if you dont care about touchscreen or using it outside your house. i used to draw with my mouse all the time and then i got a pen with a pad that connects to my desktop and i did a few commissions with that, i still prefered to use my mouse and just use smooth lines function on software it was easy to draw just took 2x as longer.

Absolutely fucking not. Let me just say tablets will not magically make you an artist. They can only amplify what you already have. If you are new, then I would suggest spending the money you would spend on a tablet on art supplies and paper. Get into different media and try things. Just draw. Learn what you like. Explore subjects and ideas on paper. Later on when you feel more confident get yourself a tablet. But DO NOT get a tablet right away.

I use pen and paper a lot, have also used screenless wacom tablets since I was 14. I'm 31 now. I bought a Wacom 14" screen-tablet this week. I'm really blown away by how nice it is so far. I honestly wish I had bought it years earlier. It's EXTREMELY nice to have the mix of traditional and digital feeling. I recommend it strongly. Plus they're so cheap in comparison to before when you had to buy a Cintiq to get the experience.

it depends, if it makes you draw more probably.

imo pen and paper has the best "feel" but you can get close by putting a piece of paper over your screenless tablet (this wears down the nib quicker but whatever, also if you do this it's better to find a nice quality paper) or buy buying certain protectors for a screen tablet. But imo screen tablets feel slippery as shit instead of only half slippery like pen tablet (screenless) and hurt my neck because I'm looking down instead of at my monitor

wait until after christmas because companies like wacom are jewish and bump the prices up around this time of year

also DO NOT get the fucking smallest size get a medium, trust me it's worth the extra 40 bucks. the jump from medium to large doesn't matter as much

The big thing about the small sizes is you're basically drawing 95% from your wrist instead of with your shoulder and arm, I think it stunts you and also gives you pain/arthritis/you get tired much more easily so you draw less.

pen and paper is as direct as you can get.

a tablet is like several layers removed between your mind and whats drawn. It takes a lot of getting used to.

Paper and pen then drawing pad then drawing tablet :3
