I'm horrified by the idea of developing any sort of chronic pain. What's the best way to prevent any RSI or carpal tunnel from drawing? I hear stretches mentioned a lot, but are there other things to keep in mind?
>>7822456When you draw, never move the wrist.Move mainly the shoulder and elbow. Use the wrist only when it's necessary. At least this is what I do.
Lift some weights.Remember that stretching should be done after your workout, never before. Doing random stretches without at least warming up first can worsen your situation.

Don't wear splint all the time, unless the doctor tells you too. It's mainly to prevent weird wrist position during sleep. Obviously a lot of internet "artists" think it's cool to wear them while drawing.
carpal tunnel is easy to avoid with overhand grip, you'll tire out your shoulder long before you hurt your wrist if you only use overhand. For digital use the fatest grippies you can find that are still comfortable.Ease up when you catch yourself squeezing the pencil/stylus. For me doing accurate copies where I try to match clean line art is the easiest way to fuck my wrist, so I keep most of my copies looser now since I've trained my accuracy to already be pretty good when I need to draw on model.
