Pre/beg/ here. So I started drawing ~1 month ago, finished reading the sticky and looked up for recs, I heard you should start with either Keys to Drawing or Drawing with the Right Side of the brain. I've seen a lot of peoples suggesting the later, but also a lot saying that it was full of bullshit. I've seen fewer people recommending keys to drawings, but no one really criticizing it. Which one do you recommend?
you're never gonna know what a book is like unless you try it out yourself, and drawing is better than not drawing. all we can ever do is try our best in the moment with the limited knowledge we have, try to reflect on whether/how we can improve our approach, and try to realize that ideal.that said, I think DRSB is a bit gimmicky, needs extra materials that aren't necessary. I like KtD personally. but whatever you choose, I would recommend structuring your study around fundamentals. so a good beginner/generic book like KtD is good from the outset, and you can go back to it as much as you like, but rotate between different fundamentals more particularly (e.g. perspective, figure drawing, construction, etc.) as long as you're going through material which is generally positively regarded, and you're putting in an earnest effort, and have a critical eye, you'll improve.

>>7824480Comes down to personal preference, try the first chapter of both and see which you prefer. Both have good exercises, do both if you want.
