I think /ic/ should try expressing themselves through art more. So let's see those creations that are important and meaningful to you. I started trying to teach myself to paint in September. This is the second piece I did in color, I'm so happy with the outcome because it portrays a relationship that I just can't stop thinking about.
My first attempt at color. Also means something to me. I like to call it "my stupid puppy life"

>>7825434So adorable and I love the texture! >>7825394I think it's completely okay to use references as a base for your drawings even if they're self expressionistic in nature. My process for these pieces usually looks like this:1. Imagine the idea, visualise it in my mind. Think about the story and how I can connect symbols with certain themes, people, scenarios. 2. Google around for pictures or take pictures that could be useful when drawing/painting. I especially use this as I'm drawing out my first sketch to fully realise some of the aspects of the drawing that I wasn't fully certain how they look.3. Get started, and DON'T be afraid to change things as you go. For example, for "my stupid puppy life" I referenced a picture I took of a meadow near my dad's workplace as a reference for the backround. I added the raspberries because in german they are called Himbeere, which obviously is a bit of a pun because a excerpt from a picture of Himmler cam be seen in the sky. The puppy is to represent me. It's basically a collage of things I've seen before, pictures I took, but I painted in such a free minded manner with loose lines and inaccuracies (like the raspberries looking a bit out of place and not being dense enough, the leaves not even looking like raspberry leaves, the dog being very blocky looking) that ultimately added the touch of naivety and unrealistic imagination that makes it expressionistic. That being said, I've made pieces that are entirely made of a collage of references, yet I'd still consider them to be very personal. Because the adding and combining gave it a meaning that is almost specifically me. Here for example, a pencil self portrait that can be both seen as me holding a certain someone close to me, but could also be seen as a kind of "reveal", hence the nudity.Don't think too much about it though, anon, you got this.
