Is it true or just a cope?

Cope
I failed at my animation dreams and may rope soon. I can't even get a min long animation done now because I spend 60 hours a week at a factory to come home to an apartment I can barely afford

If I have to work a day job, everyone has to
I won't rest until every avenue of making a living from art is destroyed
>>
You have to imagine yourself insane
>>
>>7831631
It’s cope, but it’s better than completely giving up. I don’t romanticize the process at all
>>
>>7831631
you can believe whatever you want to...
>>
>>7831631
It's 100% true
True artist should starve while doing what they truly believe.
If you want to earn money via art, then you are just craftsman who looks a way out of bad wagie life.

You might not like it
but that's how it is
>>
It's cope, but it's cope with a truth-y vibe to it so I'll allow it
>>
>>7831631
romantic? you mean auntie with wine in hand will go "aww" and continue scrolling?
>>
>>7831631
pure cope
i only want to sit on my ass and watch or read something to relax after work
>>7831640
i dont think OP pic glorifies work, it glorifies art after having to suffer through some wagie job
>>
>>7831640
People don't pretend to like working, sometimes it's great but if you do anything daily it becomes mundane. It's like hiking a trail for multiple days- there are moments where you get that absolute zen but most of the time your're walking and your feet may hurt, you don't smell the best and depending on your preparation you may be hungry, wet, or itchy. It's still overall a good memory because humans tend to forget about the bad part of things and remember the sweet parts.
>>
>>7831631
Neither is romantic, that part of any of it is cope.
Art made out of passion will always be better than art made out of wanting money. Whether you have a day job or not is irrelevant.
>>
>>7831631
its cope, everyone who makes art want to do it full time
>>
Id like my day job to make a modest living. Im making 15 bucks an hour. I used to have an apartment and could go to the movies or coffee shop on 6.50 an hour back in 2007. Inflation has stopped that.
Anyway, boss makes a dollar while I kake a dime, thats why I doodle on company time.
>>
True when it's about highbrow museum stuff, massive cope when concerning the sort of anime child porn we get up to.

nobody cares who you are when you draw Frieren taking horse dick, just get it done
>>
>>7831797
Even in porn, developing a persona and a following is a huge part of getting commissions. People are more likely to commission you if they feel like they have a parasocial relationship with you
>>
>>7831631
Cope, though I don't actually hate my day job at all. It just doesn't offer me the creative and emotional freedom that art does.
>>
>>7831631
gigacope unless you have some amazing awesome dayjob like you are a skydiving instructor or something
most jobs suck such massive BBC.
>>
It's true. Artists full time are just animator or graphic design wage slaves. They don't service themselves. It is literally an age-old autistic tradition to curate an expansive art world and only let people discover it upon your death. You don't see long-ass mystery documentaries on Sandra the caricature artist from Michigan, it's always these freaky secluded autists that do it as a hidden double-life. The aura from mystery enhances the art ten fold.

>Just as romantic
You need to rely on the reassurance of others to enforce your own acceptance of what you spend your time on.
You can't just enjoy the pleasure of creating art for the special personal thing it is. You have to think about it through the perceptions of a hypothetical crowd that you are completely at the mercy of. You fetter and panic and writhe under the scrutiny of a fictional public opinion and change your actions and adjust your hobbies in accordance with the non-existent derrision you're not receiving from people who don't exist because you're obsessed with how others receive you.
This is very fucking woman brained.
I shiggy diggy
>>
>>7831631
It's true, it's just as "romantic", as vague as a term that is in this context.
That said, it may be just as romantic, but it's not what's putting food on the table, and you're far more likely to find you're unable to make art due to burnout because of work.
>>
>>7831640
a lot of people's "work" is fucking around the office in a social environment, typing emails, answering the phone, putting numbers into excel sheets someone else made etc etc
>>
>>7831633
>>7831635
>>7831639
generally from my own subjective experience, people claiming "cope" of artists that find joy in their work regardless of their ability to monetize it are themselves coping with the desire to appear competent in any aspect of their lives, but art especially.
eg "cope" is usually a response from people coping themselves with wanting people to care about their work as much as they do, but can't be satisfied with their output for its own sake.

This
Being loved and popular is more important than money for me
I want to be part of the social media elite artist group like Speedoru
Right now I've maxed out at like 2k followers. I have only been around for like 3 years though, speedo took a decade.
Problem is that I don't think we have a decade, I genuinely believe the world is ending
>>
>>7832165
you'll make it if you are honest with your goals and love your work as much as you expect others to love it
>>7832169
you've already made it, but lack context from art friends that makes your achievement feel like the achievement it is. it's okay to still be hungry, but if those followers aren't bots, then they're people that already see your work as worthwhile enough to follow you. you also can't fully emulate the exact circumstances and life choices of the artists you admire to the point of also emulating their success, so focus on the woods you tend, not theirs. speak for the trees already in your acreage.
besides, all woo and pseudo-intellectual bullshit aside, being in the proverbial secret club usually means compromising on what you make for reach and favors from artists bigger than you, so take what you will from that

I mean, you're psychoanalyzing economics here, just to deflect from the fact that "finding joy in their work" is a 100% psychological phenomenon. Can't you see that this method is fully inappropriate to economic activity and also fully appropriate to art especially when it isn't monetized?
Something that you do for a false sense of security or comfort or whatever is definitionally cope, and things you do for the real thing are productive and profitable. Why can't you accept that sometimes a concept with connotations simply applies to you? You don't have to start abandoning pieces of your psyche just because a frogposter can call it out by name.
>>
>>7832182
>Why can't you accept that sometimes a concept with connotations simply applies to you?
i don't and fully accept that the world runs on money. i have to eat, just like you do, and i have my own day job and responsibilities. this entire thread boils down to "should the artist make something if they can't eat it" and my response to people saying "no" is "those who say 'no' would rather opine on whether their own work is worth eating and make it someone else's problem" as >>7831633 already admitted. having a day job is soul-sucking, especially if it's "60 hours a week at a factory" but there's plenty of people that make it work anyway.
to stretch the food and eating analogy as far as it can go, is there a point to cooking after a shit day at your day job if you're the only one that eats the food you make? sure, we eat to survive, but there's always frozen food and fast food to cover your needs - and finally, you have to ask what of the people who just find joy in cooking?
ultimately, the only people coping are the ones arguing about what makes good cooking, not the ones enjoying pie, whether store-bought or homemade.
>>
>>7831631
As far as I'm concerned, it's a pathetic cope.
Romanticism is vague and overblown as other anons stated here but lets be honest here. Lifting unknown boxes in a warehouse, doing sales of products that'll enrich some asshole that'll never even set foot in your country, testing code for a company you genuinely do not give a shit about. Contrast that with doing something you find even 1% meaningful or are the least bit interested in (art or whatever else). For me it's an easy pick. After testing both options I'd rather kill myself than going back to a "day job" I don't believe in no matter how much better it pays.
>>
>>7831631
Anyone that talks like this is a waste of time and must be made fun of
>>
Its genuinely baffiling to me that many of you are arguing why its wrong for someone to enjoy the artwork theyve made for themselves. Its insane that youre attempting to find an intellectual reason to tell someone they arent allowed to do that. What the actual fuck is wrong with you?
>>
I draw at work during downtime. Its definitely cope.
>>
Chinese art school makes them draw from 7am to 10pm, 6 days a week. There is no way a westerner can compete unless they were NEET or had similar, ideal conditions.
>>
>>7832381
>>7832381
If no one else sees your art, why make it at all?
>>
>>7832402
figure it out. I aint got to explain shit to you. I'm not jumping through your hoops, faggot.
>>
>>7832402

>>
>>7832390
The standards are much lower in the West and for Western companies. If you want to get a job, just study like a Chinese or Russian art student would, you'll be ahead of most people because they'll be studying like Westerners (low effort).
>>
>>7832381
it's just cope talk, there's nothing wrong for drawing for attention, but it gets retarded when you claim you draw for fun or yourself then get assblasted that you didn't get any attention for your art. This applied to the vast majority of the board these hypocritical shitters
>>
>>7832451
It is way lower, you're just coping. Just look at any social media artist or video game artbook, it's completely uninspired and generic. Heck, just compare any cartoon to the average anime slop. Not to mention you prove my point by whining when you have way lower standards yet you still can't reach them.
You are beyond fortunate to be in your situation and still don't recognize it, that's why you fail, you have been coddled for too long and have nothing to compare it to which is why you can't see how much easier you have it.
>>
>>7832454
>Just look at any social media artist or video game artbook, it's completely uninspired and generic
yes, It's mostly anime, what's your point?
The art scene is treated like shit in the west and loved in the east. The doujin culture is extremely strong and the west has nothing like that. Just because you're delusional doesn't mean others are, fag.
>>
>>7832472
>The doujin culture is extremely strong and the west has nothing like that
Literally how many conventions are there with artist alleys? Just because you never leave your house doesn't mean they don't exist. You can see the most beginner level artists sell there. Even if you want to argue the whole "buy a table" thing, you can still make a storefront online. You can jump on trends on Twitter and then make a name for yourself.
You just whine because you can't do it. You're weak and pathetic.
>>
>>7832402
people won't see the majority of art you'll create. Not everyone is using art to be an attention whore, most artists hate that they have to attention whore max in order to get their art out there to feed themselves but do it anyways.
>>
>>7831633
>60 hour factory job

are you raising 5 kids while in debt? why the fuck would you work that long in a factory job lmao?
>>
>>7832582
It's the only way I can afford my $1.8k a month apartment
Worst part is that I don't live in some big city.
>>
>>7832607
>$1.8k a month apartment
LMAO just get a loan, mortgage whatever the fuck you guys have in third world america and buy a home holy shit why would you even pay for an apartment that expensive
>>
>>7832646
The good thing about apartments is if your washer or dryer or sink or whatever breaks the repair men slaves will be over same day to fix it unlike a house if something breaks that’s on you.
>>
>>7832649
oh and free air filters and you don’t have to worry about porch pirates and then there is the gym/pool and clubhouse. And depending on how big your community is you could be living in a literal oasis you can walk around at night without fearing getting mugged since the security is way out up at the entrance. at least in my city that’s the case.
>>
>>7832655
>gym/pool and clubhouse
>oasis
nigger no one is forcing you to live beyond your means lmao
>>
>>7832659
>just live with roaches and attack spiders bro

Anyway I’m not that anon and I live with my parents. I don’t think I’ll ever afford to move out. Maybe I’ll just inherit the house or whatever.
>>
Of course it's a cope.
