I hear all the time from successful artists that "If you don't like the process of drawing itself, you won't make it." Is it possible to learn to like it? Maybe through some sort of mindset adjustment? Is there anyone here who used to hate the act of drawing, but eventually started liking it, even when it comes to more "menial" drawing?

I think the amount of people on /ic/ who don't draw proves the "situational interest" part of this theory wrong
>>
>>7843720
they have to actually interact with the skill to complete this step, just watching is not enough

I’ve always loved to draw. I took a big hiatus from maybe 9-16 for vidya but once I fell back into art, I never got tired of it. It’s 100% true, if you don’t take pleasure out of making art, filling up sketchbooks, improving, studying, and lack that desire to become the best artist you can possibly be, you won’t make it. If drawing is something you find unenjoyable, gives you a headache, or something you don’t look forward to doing, find another hobby. Don’t waste time forcing yourself to like something

The problem that I see is people get into it in their 20s and 30s because they want something specific, rather than for the pleasure of creating something. It can be to make $$$, get e-famous, make a game, Draw the Owl, or draw like a favorite artist - stuff like that.
And they can't get off of that one, rigid conception of what art will be for them, instead of treating it as play and exploration.
Whereas artists who get good over time seem to be motivated by the creative act itself, even when they're kinda beggish (not necessarily flamingly awful, but certainly not as good as they potentially could be with years of practice).

You need to be able to nourish your soul in the meantime while you wait on getting good. Everyone starts shit but some people just seem to be easily amused, so to speak. Self-delusion is kind of a superpower up to a point.

Yes, just stop being an egocentric faggot and you'll do fine.
>>
>>7843654
why would you want to invest years of your life to become okay at something you don't like doing, are you retarded? literally what are you even doing?
>>
>>7843978
I have a great appreciation for visual art as a medium and I have ideas in my head that I want to express on paper
>>
>>7843986
if that were what you wanted, working on it would be fulfilling and you wouldn't be making retarded threads on 4chan instead
wanting to accomplish something =/= wanting the accomplishment of it
>hurr how do I enjoy singing? I appreciate singing and have songs I want to sing but I don't like singing durr
you're an ideafag, retard
>>
>>7844007
Your vitriol doesn't bother me, I'm gonna keep drawing regardless of how I feel. I can only assume this is some weird projection, I have no idea why you'd get so worked up about this otherwise.
>>
>>7844019
what projection, retard? you literally said you don't like drawing
you are legitimately retarded
>>
>>7844019
>I'm gonna keep spending my life like this regardless of how I feel about it
Amazing comeback
>>
>>7844033
Correct
>>
the worst part about drawing is turning the tablet on and setting it up on the table. I would rather do chores I hate than do that. When I'm in the middle of drawing something, then Im fine again and it can even be fun.
>>

>Knew it was some jeet scam from the thumbnail
>click on it anyway
>first frame is a jeet, 26 mins long
Miss me with that cow shit.
>>
I want to draw but if an idea is gonna take over 3 hours, I just can't commit to it. Think about it
If I spend 3 hours drawing, I have to take breaks every hour so its more like 4 hours of drawing in total.
Then I have to let the drawing sit and look at it again with fresh eyes to spot errors and mistakes, and there is going to be a lot of them, so its not actually finished yet. That's another hour of mental destress.
Then I have to make the changes, which gives 0 dopamine because I'm working on a drawing that my brain feels is finished.
And THEN I have to rest for the same amount of time I spent working on it, before I can move on to the next drawing.

Thats over 8 hours of dedication to one drawing.
>>
>>7843654
It's completely genetic. If you can't make the massive gains that take you to int level and above within a few hundred hours, you do not have the innate skill needed to do art and you will always hate the process for reminding you of how bad your art is. Only those with survivorship bias from natural drawing talent get to a sufficient level quickly, allowing them to appreciate the process for directly giving them the results that they want.
>>
>>7843654
Possibly, but I don't see why you'd do that? If you want to do art, you should like it, I just don't see why you'd want to do it otherwise?
Surely if this is about clout, there are other options that you would find more interesting, like music or something?
>>
>>7844274
He’s literally the 1 in a billion jeet that is actually based. You are just a faggot.
>>
>>7843654
I think its just about finding a medium that doesnt make you hate the process
digital made it all alot more accessible, especially compared to something active and ressource intensive like sculpting, but im sure alot of sculpters hate being restrained to digital
>>
>>7844619
It's not about clout, I just have ideas in my head that I want to see realized. I don't even really care if other people see them or think they're good, I just want to see them realized in the way that I imagine them. It's for myself.

>>7844922
I've been getting more used to digital but when it comes to enjoyment of the process, generally I actually prefer traditional. The tactile feedback is more satisfying.

Same desu
I have an indie animated series. I animated the first 3 episodes and then just started hiring people to do that while I write and direct it. I enjoy mindless doodling but full on shit bores me to tears. I just want an IP that is seen. It's vain sure but whatever. Currently have 6 eps done
>>
I enjoy drawing but I don't want to draw for longer than an hour.

lol okay brapjeet

I CAN ONLY DRAW WHEN IM MOTIVATED

HOW DO I FORCE MYSELF TO BE MOTIVATED????

IM TIRED OF SITTING AND DOING NOTHING FOR HOURS!!!!

IF I FORCE MYSELF TO DRAW MY ARM JUST GOES LIMP AND MY EYES SHUT
>>
>>7845375
This sounds like you need a break from social media or some other kind of stimulation. Let yourself be bored and you’ll want to draw instead of post on 4chan, discord or whatever you do.

that's because adults have expectations, it's not rocket science
>>
>>7846227
So adults are worse than kids lol. Isn't that funny? A kid won't expect to draw like Akira Toriyama in a few weeks. But he'll still draw Goku a bunch of times anyway. Adults are fucking retarded.
>>
>>7846227
those same expectations are the very reason why theyll never achieve anything, seems like rocket science for people like you

If you enjoy the process of making art, you can also fall into a trap of not-drawing if your life is all fucked up otherwise.
By this I mean, for some people making art feels so good it's like leisure or a delicacy. This then can create a weird mental state where one avoids drawing because of this feeling like
>I should be doing work instead
Associating "fun art time" with "this is actually work no matter how fun it is, it counts" is something some people struggle with. It can originate from a lot of different reasons.
>swallowing the psyop of "art must be suffering" that miserable people and non-artists perpetuate
>being raised in an environment/by retards that insist "real work" must be drudgery, or otherwise denigrates anything entertainers do (and artists ARE entertainers)
>executive functioning issues that spergs autists and adhders have, often maladaptively pingponging between hyperfocus on tasks and burnout from using the stress as a motivator
>depressed motherfuckers who refuse to do anything enjoyable unless it's a "reward" and constantly belittle their own efforts, keeping themselves unhappy to validate their depressed internal narratives

any equivilents that dont require a doctors visit?

sometimes changing the medium or the process of drawing can make it easier to find fun in it, and learning you can just not do anything you don't like about drawing was a huge step forward for me. if you feel like theres parts of art you think you "have" to do like lineart or sketching or a program you dont like as much as another but feel like you "have" to use to make a "real" drawing, try adjusting around that and see where it takes you! personally I found that I didn't want to do lineart at all so I don't, and it's worked well for me
most of it is around mindset, too, not worrying about if you're making something "good" or being afraid of mistakes/embarrassment. capturing that childlike wonder of just drawing something cool regardless of "quality" is very important in keeping yourself motivated

Not really. Caffeine and nicotine kind of, but really nothing is gonna do the job of amphetamines besides amphetamines.
>>
>>7850969
L-theanine but this will make you sleepy as fuck if you don't get good bed rest. It can indicate that your brain is massively coping for being exhausted by turning on the "alertness" mode, which would explain why you can't concentrate.
