Drawing with music will hinder your learning progress

Fuck you
I will continue to listen to underground nu metal while drawing

I listen to good girl asmr and hypno fractionation exclusively while drawing.

maybe listen to better music, something that isnt as distracting. no nu-negroid monkey sounds for example. now black jazz and blues is another story. or some classical music. if anything, i am quite sure it will improve your art and the mood it gives. its not a mechanical process, its emotional. i mean, unless youre drawing shitty porn and animu grills for attention, then do whatever you think is right, because the brain damage is already done.

Music can be inspirational, but I like instrumental music when I am writing dialog and when I am just drawing, anything works, even audiobooks.

Right, this is why you should seal yourself away in a isolation tank when drawing. No Noises. No Light. No Stimuli. No Distractions.
You should also, preferably, be drugged up and numbed to physical sensations, we wouldn't want the physical sensation of the pencil scraping against the paper to distract you from the act of drawing, now would we?
Trust me, though I'm still pre-beg, I'm certain I've been making big strides for the last 10 years or so I've been drawing this way - I'm on my way to beg at this rate!
>>
>>7845063
Can you explain why ? Care to post your work?
Or just post a lame meme?
>>
Listening to music and watching youtube while I draw is the only reason I've improved so much the past year.
Maybe I'd improve twice as fast without it, but I would also draw ten times less, so no shot I stop.

Dudes, this is so ironic, I assume they ironically didn't hire a human artist? Man that's so hilariously ironic.
What next? Anti-leather themed leather jackets?
Anti-child slavery Nike shoes?
What a hilarious and ironic time to be alive!

I read this in the papers one day, so I don't have a web source.
Basically multitasking is a myth. The brain only focuses on one thing at a time. Thus, when you do several things at once, the brain has to constantly switch between tasks. This is also why you don't actually 'hear' the music whenever you're really focused while drawing.

Another thing to consider is called dopamine stacking. If you indulge in several dopamine sources at once, such as listening to music, watching videos on a second monitor and drinking your favourite soda all at once, this has long-term negative effects on your dopamine system. Your baseline dopamine will gradually adapt, meaning you'll have a harder time motivating yourself to do tasks like drawing.
Check the Andrew Huberman Podcast episode for more info on that.

Personally, I don't mind if other people listen to music while drawing. Maybe it can be motivating. If it works for you, great.
In my own work, I noticed an improvement in quality when I stopped listening to music while drawing.

I know, and it's hands down my worst habit with my art. Is white noise a good alternative? My apartment is never truly quiet and I don't like overhearing most of what goes on.

Yeah, I think I'll stick to the sensei's that actually draw.

these piece of advice are literally nonsense. If it helps to get you into the zone by putting some light music in the background, then do so. If it distracts you then dont. What keeps you a beg is whether or not you draw and challenge yourself by studying, applying new knowledge and repeating that for years.

i'd say a month is a bit much too quick. Maybe 6-12 months, then i'd agree.
>>
>>7848361
im talking from the perspective of someone who is pretty much completely new to art. Doesn't know anything of the fundamentals, doesn't really have any experience at all, and assuming that they actually practice daily and study. Not being on /ic/ is already part of my equations, because this place is a cesspit.

No. Just like 90% of /ic/ claims.
>>
>>7849872
Well I meant like "Oh these people did this study and found that 99 percent of your brain turns to butts if you listen to music while drawing."

I'm not unwilling to try new things but if there's known pitfalls I would like to be mindful.

>Another thing to consider is called dopamine stacking.
also a myth. just another modernist buzzword. and listening to music in the background isnt multitasking, as you said, you are not actively listening to it. silence is a luxury if you dont live on the land, there will always be noise and distractions, therefore choosing the distraction or background noise that is pleasent instead of annoying, like music, is key in productivity.

you are wrong.
>>
>>7845622
>This is also why you don't actually 'hear' the music whenever you're really focused while drawing.
I notice this happen, but I also always use the same playlist that only has like 30 songs, which I've listened to a ton and only ever use while drawing, so I'll usually only really get to hear the first song, maybe a bit of the second, and the routine/monotony of it being associated with drawing gets me into focus way fast. If I ever catch myself actually hearing it again, I know it's time for a break because my focus is dropping. Works for me.
>>
>>7845083
why would more complex music be better? wouldn't that be more distracting?
