What's the etiquette of taking someone else's abandoned OC?
>>7845566no such thing, it's called fanart
did the original artist give permission? did they prohibit fan art?
>>7845566That you don't? Why do you get to steal someone's designs because they're not using it enough for you? That's like me saying I get to continue an author's story, because they didn't make any sequels.Feel free to make a character that's heavily inspired to the point of being derivative, but don't just yoink someone's character, jeez.
>>7845566Imagine being so braindead that you need to steal someone's OC instead of designing one on your own. Massive fucking loser.
>>7845566Let's say you did steal an abandoned OC. What were you plans for that OC afterward? Were you going to create an original story or a webcomic with that character? Were you going to give that character a backstory based on personal events in your life or put them in a worldbuild of your own? Or were you just going to draw them standing in a blank white void?
add a colorful piece of clothing that they never wore before like a green bandana or something.
>>7845566sounds like something that will put you on those shitty art drama youtube channels
>>7845566Be atleast a little creative and take the character as inspiration and make your own.
>>7845566>What's the etiquette of taking someone else's abandoned OC?You just do it, it's legal. Not like twitter commission artists actually trademark their characters.
I think it would be pretty funny to be an artist dedicated to drawing other people's ocs enlisting in the IDF or something.
>>7845566Void? since he has less art of Robin/ie than some gardovior posters.
Is this about voiderino making art of your old character?
>>7846266The original artist never called out Voiderino so I think he's pretty safe.
>>7845566just rip it off, nothing is really original and the oc in question is likely an amalgamate of its original artist's favorite things.
>>7845566What's the story surrounding this one? I know that Averi's creator was cast out from the furry community for doing a heckin racism.
>using one of 4chan's least popular boards to complain about shit no one cares about because the sharty ripoff furfag containment site was somehow not good enough
>>7848586What the site called? Asking for a friend
>>7848597Be sure to check out Natalie's NUTTY Adventure good shit.
>>7845566just take it, what are they going to do, come back with the milk and raise that drawing?
>>7845566If I ever make a project I'm going to include like, 10 of these. Because I keep coming across artists I adore, then they delete everything. Artists no one knows. So either I get the character in circulation, or they would have to come out and admit ownership. To make an OC you can literally just take a design and slightly change the tiniest amount. Copyright is fucked being favoured towards corposhit...
>>7845746my oc is a already a canonical IDF apache pilot
>>7847061> OG the original artist never drew her doing lewds? There is one? I believe.
>>7845566I think it's best to be respectful, even if the original artist is more on the permissive side. If you use the character, let the creator know if possible. If they allow it, give them some attribution, as if you're using something from Creative Commons. If the author refuses, I'd say just take some inspiration while making your own character. A single character is rarely such a unique thing that its concept can't be broken down and revamped.
>>7845566contact them, request they sell it to you as an adoptable
>>7845566If people spark drama over it just use that to get more popular
>>7845566It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission
>>7845577Literally who cares bro
>>7845566You don't need permission to take someone's OC and draw them in an interracial gangbang BBC scene. Just make sure you credit the original artist by @'ing them and using their hashtags if they have any!
>Change 2-6 details>"It's a coincidence/inspiration."
>>7845566Youre not going to credit them are you.
>>7850933Kill yourself. Your soul is rotten like a December pumpkin
>>7845691You do not have to trademark intellectual property. Youre just a nigget.
>>7850472Kill yourself
>>7845566there's no need to steal an OC when you can just commission an artist to draw you an original character and BOOM! instant IP for you!
>>7851577?IP doesn't factor into this, who the fuck gives a shit about IP? We're making art here, not trying to racketeer.
>>7851638i mean, technically any original creation becomes someone's IP automatically, no patent office required, and it's possible to sue anyone for using your IP without permission, even when no money is being made. the guy who invented Pepe the frog sued alex johnes for using it in racist memes that "tarnished its reputation", which is all you need really. we live in a capitalist dystopia where ideas, words, and even DNA sequences can be owned, sadly.the only reason why every fan artist in the world isn't getting sued into oblivion is because most companies (sans nintendo and disney) understand that attacking fans is bad PR and there's very little money to be made out of suing a single person, besides maybe deterring future IP thieves. besides, you can usually get a DMCA takedown via a hosting website without the need to take the person to court.there's a lot of artists who refuse to make fan art of certain company-owned characters. the advantage of making your own OC is that you're the sole owner unless you willingly let your character into the public domain.i would love to see a world with zero copyright though.
>>7845577>me saying I get to continue an author's story, because they didn't make any sequels.Nothing wrong with fanfics
I don't understand how anyone older than like 14 cares about this shit. I could sort of see it if this was making you serious money, but nobody who is making serious money talks about "taking OCs", or "OCs" in general.
>>7845577bait
>>7845595/thread
>>7852043>we live in a capitalist dystopia where ideas, words, and even DNA sequences can be owned, sadly.A capitalist utopia would recognize that property is by definition rivalrous and ideas/data don't apply. Ethically you don't need consent to simply copy, meaning nobody has a rightful claim for restitution against you if you copy because you haven't violated their property rights.Enforcement of IP is just one more aspect of the state's protection racket, giving unethical individuals a direct line to send goons with guns after peaceful people to take their property.
>>7848842May we zee?
>>7854071
>>7851577owing the rights to a creation costs significantly more than a simple commision
>>7848857One day I steal your oc and whore her out to Internet when you don't care for her anymore
I don't understand why would I need etiquette around my OC?
>>7845599Create a hit web comic with their OC plastered on front so that they can seethe and screech about someone stealing their design only for them to be drowned out by the noise living the rest of their lives in delusion about how if it weren't for their OC the web comic would have never blown up. Except that would hardly have been the case because otherwise their OC would have been big beforehand and is literally only a character in a story that makes that character relevant thereby making them realize that their precious OCs hold no actual value outside of their friend groups or niche fandoms until someone with the actual capacity to generate value comes along and does something with it. They'll scream at the heavens every day in the comments talking about how the creator of the webcomic would be nothing without them, being repeatedly blocked, reported, or told to shut the fuck up by literally everyone because once again, an OC is worthless in vacuum.
>>7857626Facts. Goku's character design is the most mid ass generic martial artist in a prison jumpsuit type shit, but because he's the main protagonist of Dragon Ball Z, it wouldn't matter if his name was ching ling ding a ling and had candlestick nipples. People would adore him and the regardless, because they adore the story.
>>7857627Don't even get me started on one piece. That one is truly an anomaly, neither the characters or the story are good. By this point I'm sure it's sunk cost fallacy and sentimental attachment because people have been watching it their entire life
>>7845566You could always just make your own instead of being creatively bankrupt, even if it is heavily influenced.
