We have a hype-over-saturation of anime and hentai illustrators.

I know, I know. This is old news. What I'm wondering is:

Where are the new artists?

Where can I find artists with polished styles like Jim Lee or Todd McFarland once had?

I know there are talented comic creators out there, the problem is I can't find them.

They all make JJK fanart/work on the JJK anime now

There is no saturation, anime illustrations are the only thing that exists in 2026.

Everyone finally realized it's mathematically impossible to draw for Marvel and DC mainstream comics

I guess they're all indie now, which makes them harder to find than when everything is under a label like Marvel or DC.
You could try the smaller labels, like Boom! Studios and Oni Press.

Honestly, with how in vogue the japanese anime/manga look is, and how crappy low quality (and low talent) are is tolerated, and how cheap comic companies are these days, I think finding really great artists might be more difficult than it was back in the day when you could become a millionaire of just a few successful floppies.

Not to mention how generally fucked up the comics market is for us in the west atm.
Want to make a cool indie web comic? You HAVE to upload it to webtoons for it to be seen, so now you gotta make it a vertical phone comic - oh, and webtoons has notoriously shit monetization, so good luck benefiting from all that hard work.
Oh, you want to advertise your merch or kickstarter for your comic? Too bad outside links are banned on webtoon, because fuck you westoid!

Want a comfortable and secure job at a big comic studio drawing other people's jobs then, like at DC or Marvel?... haha, lol, get fucked.
Some of the comic greats are now almost destitute because of how shit the pay is now.

Alright, maybe the classic Paper & Ink Indie comic route is for you, maybe even with a label like Penguin Random House or something?
Well the publishing industry is doing shit right now, and is notorious in being not only difficult to get into, but more so for straight white dudes (which I assume you are), and everyone is so busy slobbering on Japanese Cock, will they even look your way?

It's a little surprise if all the good western artists have given up on comics and are trying other mediums with markets that are a little more fair, like video games.

i mean, you could just check out /co/ for like once. its a horrible place generally, but there is still stuff being made that is posted and you can take notice. the problem is, you have to shovel away heaps of shit to find the good stuff now, same with mangas and animes and movies and games. every medium is oversaturated with mediocrity and crap, so you have to actively work to find the good stuff. and the current ABSOLUTE runs arent the worst, but nothing extraordinary. i do like the art though, which is waht you requested essentially.

Making a new social media account where you only follow comic artists and illustrators might help. Remember the algorithm throws at you what you engage with. So only like, follow, retweet, and comment on the type of art/creators you want to see. Plus American comics are in the dumps because it changed its business model from selling entertainment to selling collectables. If the industry goes back to producing entertainment people want to read and not just number 1's and rare covers. The talent will get to create works their passionate about, and the money flows back in creating a draw for better and better talent.

They're going to cons to share their portfolio to those in the industry but are being gatekept at the same time.

Is there any stats on what's popular? >>7853410

This . Once I start following abstract art I get a feed of abstract stuff.

basically.
old marvel/dc comics from the 90's tried to establish a standard of art which was great, but they failed to leave behind heirs to their talents, so we decided to opt for anima and manka, and forsook western art.

not because it wasn't great, but because they purposely gatekept and stifled its propagation by monetizing it.
