As a newbie, should I pick an artist and copy their style? It seems like a fun goal.

If you're a complete beginner it might be a bit difficult depending on their style but keeping things fun is more important. If they are popular enough there probably some guides you can follow.
>>
Definitely, do a variety of studies and copies

To develop your style, pick your favorite artists and select ten drawings from each of them to copy and trace. Do contours, upside down drawings, and spend lots of time looking at your subject.

How do I do a study?

You're retarded.

Yeah, that's one way to learn. It's not exactly going to teach you anatomy or anything, you'll just be copying an artist's stylised version of it, but if you're goals are just to draw like that one artists - go for it.
