The post felt kind of unnatural when I tried to do it irl. I felt some pressure in my abs, kind of like holding a situp. For a lounging pose you'll want to think about how comfortable it is for the character to hold that position for a long period so it's more believable. I think it would be more natural if she leaned back more and her hands were located further behind her.

No I don't think it was him. He post regularly, this recent bag of trash started on /DAD/ a few threads ago, far earlier than coming to this thread. I don't know how /dad/s dealt with him, since he's gone from that general. Maybe they know him closely from their /dad/ site, so he cautiously left them alone.
>>
>>7855999
Studying by copying is good. Something I’ll suggest is really focusing on figuring out the construction behind figures when you copy, which you have done somewhat here with the cylinders and stuff. Lowering the opacity on your construction forms and redrawing them a few times as a copying exercise is very helpful in figuring out the body as a form. Also /asg/ would be a thread with good advice on this topic as well.

Probably squint first to see which shapes pop out the most. This would get some of the bigger bricks down first. Then squint to get the outline of smaller piles of rubble, and then draw the smaller bits of rubble, although if I'm being honest, I would probably get lazy at that point.

I respect your dedication.

Don't forget that everything is built out of basic 3d shapes, even if you can't see them. Try to sketch out the sphere of the head, the box of the torso, etc, and then draw over those 3d shapes. It will help you find the depth of the drawing

waiting for the remaining no draws to start complaining about the old thread they didn't post any art in being deleted

I'm just focusing on copying for now, but I'll try the same drawing with this in mind. Truth be told, I don't see the advantage of this approach over just drawing what I see.

New thread, I see. Reading through the replies, I see why. Just got back from a trip to the city, and had an hour to myself. I was going to study more Bridgman, but I decided to actually draw something in the last 45 minutes. I wanted something cartoonish, I didn't really care about correct proportions or anything. I thought it would make things a little quicker, but no. I also had to drop the dino, sadly, and I half-assed the wheels when the timer went out. I'm also not satisfied with the lady, and there are details I didn't fixed. Anyways, I should go back to studying, then making dinner.

Unfortunately his book also looks quite difficult since I'm only >>7856209 and so far have done, uh shapes
>>
>>7856271
Just start drawing humans if your goal is to draw humans. You'll never learn to draw people by only drawing shapes as our resident funschizo has proven to all by now. On a personal note Bridgman looked unappealing as hell to me so I chose to copy Morpho's (except the heads) instead but it's always a pleasure to find something that clicks for you

man you're right, I gotta start at least. What's the play for getting started with humans though? People either say to copy things you like the look of, or use construction from the start (which kinda brings me back to shapes).

>Talent is a trainable skill
Is this the kind of mouth breathing retard that plagues this hellhole? Talent is being innately better at something, learning faster, getting concepts quicker, being able to understand and manipulate more complex things.
Senseifag is talented and mogs everyone here.
Same for Russiafag.
Same for Nihu.
They understand art better. They have a natural eye for measurenent, appeal and proportions. They just are better because they know better and are gifted to get better than most can ever hope for in fractions of the time.
Anyone who says otherwise is some permabeg fag who doesnt want to admit that they are FUCKED and that the ones who excel are truly special and that copying another couple pages of Bridgman will surely make his work appealing and good.
That or it is by some super talented fuck who wants to think that he is nothing but hard work and an underdog who worked harder than everyone else to be where they are completely ignoring their birthright.
Gutting advanced classrooms for the gifted kids in order to bring them down the level of your special ed negro ass has been a disaster.

>>
>>7856279
I'm in no way qualified to give any advice since I'm a beg myself but if you like Bridgman you can try copying him. Copying Morpho's helped improve my accuracy in drawing immensely and I believe that being able to accurately copy something is the most important thing to achieve at the start. All the construction in the world is worthless if I still draw fucked up disproportionate monsters while using it because I can't observe the reference for shit. I'd attach a piece of my work as proof I'm not talking out of my ass but I'm currently phoneposting

Just be prepared to spend a very long time on copying something accurately or it ending up looking wonky. Even drawings which look like basic stuff at first glance end up taking over an hour for me on average to copy accurately. But just ride with it since if you're committed you can reach passable levels fairly quickly. And don't worry about it being too advanced or you will risk getting stuck in an endless loop of grinding useless things instead of practicing what you actually want to draw

And thank you both for the compliments, though the hands are straight copies of Bridgman. Still, they look nice. Here's a quick 5 minute doodle for you, Monkey.

Gestures are always fun, and they'll help you with linework and flow later on. That, and they are quick and easy. Loomis is very rigid, and it can be difficult to escape that mindset he teaches. I do like Fun with a pencil.

Spend some time copying from photos the limbs from different rotations to get used to their actual shapes. No need to go crazy with anatomy just yet, just know how they curve and when.

Ditch the lines and circles and practice constructing your figures from cylinders, spheres, and boxes instead. You almost have to think like a 3d modeler or sculptor to draw things that look real or take up convincing 3d space on a flat page.

Thanks Professor! Yeah, that speed comes with a price. The tools are very restricted, hard rounded brush, no line-weight ( 3 pixel line only), limited layers, and 1000px height canvas. It's either that or don't do this at all. I'm sure you know how hard can be to manage time, the most valuable asset in this world lol.

>oohh interesting, its funny that even tho they see this everyday probs, itstill does something to them goodstuff asalways >3
Thank you Monka! Actually That's a question that drives me crazy, like in that other comic I did about The Book of the new sun, many people ask about the character (Severian) "Why does he fall in love with every hot chick he meets?" And in my mind I go nuts, screaming: What the fuck do you people mean? Who ask this things? Men LOVE WOMEN, men never get tired of ogling women EVERY SINGLE DAY, every-fucking-where they go. I love to play with, and analyze that unstoppable attraction dynamic between men and women. As long as that sexual attraction exists, reality of the living will exist, time in this earth will exist.
Thanks! lol

Perspective is such a soul sucking, grueling task that even with me reading 5 different books on it, I'm about as close to it clicking like a clock without gears. I swear cunts like Norling and Robertson are taking opposite stances just to spite me. Montague is almost as autistic as Robertson but at least I understood his "sphere" of vision better than the other two. Mateu-Mestre is alright but he omits so much it isn't even funny, until I realized the absolute bastard did to sell ANOTHER volume on perspective separately.
I hate perspective so much it's unreal.

I'm losing my fucking mind. I can look at a reference, I can draw that reference. The moment the reference goes away and I try to draw anything more complex than a box or primitive from a new perspective, everything goes to complete shit.

Here’s my latest. Don’t overthink it, honestly. Try, fail, look up art you like, try again, fail, look up process videos of art you like, try again, etc…. Any problem you run into like simplifying a scene, defining form in complicated groups of foliage, etc… has art you like that offers a possible solution. Copy that solution and think about why they made the choices they did. It can be really helpful to find artists that post their references for that reason.

I'm happy to explain it again, anon. I'm going to give you the rough spark notes, since I'm on break right now. I gave some historical context, like the French loving to showcase the human figure, the greeks obsession with aesthetics and beauty. Whatever flow the figures had the function of showing the human body in the best light.
Now, gestures as we know them have been around for centuries, literally. Leonardo back in Italy used it, but we only really named it in the late 1800's-ish. Techniques are a bit wishy washy in terms of history, as it's much more focused on artworks and materials, rather than how. That was popularized during the first half of the 1900's.
Gestures, as a means of practice, can give your line more flow, and you'll become much more confident in your strokes. That's especially true if you use long strokes and sparingly. Gesture drawings primary function is to establish the movement, so practicing it will also gain you in the long run in terms of dynamism.
Believe it or not, that's the short version. I could go on.

Drawing from imagination after three tries can be difficult. Your drawings using ref are great, and even when making original pieces, there's nothing wrong with keeping refs nearby to help out. At some point, you've drawn it enough times to do it from memory.

If I'm being biased, I'm very tired of speaking of Greek and ancient art forms. It's extremely autistic, which to anyone who have studied the ancient Greeks will know, they were completely obsessed with understanding reality through geometry and beauty, both physically, metaphysically and spiritually. It's a one-trick pony after a while. The interesting bits were more how their society is reflected in their artworks, but other than that, it's not that interesting. If you want some historical context, then the French is were it's at, though the specific technique aren't really discussed much. I believe that a reply on /ic/ would not suffice, but I found a good overview online if you're interested: https://rauantiques.com/blogs/canvases-carats-and-curiosities/a-survey-of-french-art-romanticism-to-the-modern-age

I like your visualization better, and I love the sky/ground difference, but tilting the mirror wouldn't do much. It's like tilting a round mirror, no matter which way it's tilted like the square one in your image, it's still facing the same way, which is the reflective surface.

Neither do I. Directly drawing in ink is where I'm the least deliberate and most expressive despite having done Dynamic Sketching. I just find it fun to let loose and find a way to live with my mistakes. It builds a different type of skillset that slow and intentional draftsmanship couldn't, although the result is usually pretty bad.

Besides rest being important, though six months is a lot, drinking a good amount of water is actually one of the most important aspects when learning to do anything. Our brains is mostly made of fat, and it needs a lot of water to function. The more hydrated you are, the better it works, basically. Like with any other part of our bodies, I guess.

Hey anons, I came here a few months back for advice and haven't been able to regularly practice, but have been able to do a daily 30-60 minutes for like 2 weeks now. Following some advice, I'm trying to draw torso/pelvis boxes in different perspectives and poses. I think they're starting to look pretty good, at least compared to some earlier shit, but some are too difficult for me and I need advice. Also, I was told to do this and then see if people can tell what's happening in each without explaining, so go ahead and give your best guesses. The one(s) I struggled with the most are the two at the top of the second page, which I'll post in a reply; I'll wait to see if people can tell me what it is before explaining, but it looks SUPER ass to me and I can't figure out why.

Sure thing. The way you draw limbs is pillowy and symmetrical, muscles are stacked like the Tire man, but the limbs are supposed to be asymmetrical.

If you're going to draw in a cartoon style but want it to be sexually appealing you can provide it by giving your bodies a more realistic body shape, can still be simplified, but having an understanding of the shapes will let you know what rules to bend and still keep things styled.

then dont copy, you are going to get better at copying but is that what you want, or what you need? thats what most classical artist did i think... when i use a reference i dont copy it literally with measuring included, i instead look at them for some time and then allucinate variations of it... if you want to copy the reference you absolutely need to measure, take a look at the course "Proko - Stephen Bauman - The Block In Course" he says you have to measure everything, but when we reference we dont copy the full reference, we just take samples from it, maybe the tilt of the head, the expression, maybe the lighting, etc... the difference between your examples is just the difference in two systems, one underdeveloped and the other trained to a point where you execute what you have already learned, your confidence zone, flow zone, where i think you dont learn anything new or learn just a tiny bit, idk. i dont want to give you mistaken information, just my humble idea...

It's been helpful I think I'm able to draw some stuff I struggled with like ears and noses and for very little you get a lot of content. Keep in mind that the expensive version doesn't offer a lot more . I thought I needed to be a purple member for purple classes but that's just how they mark it as advanced.

My process so far has been to do 1 section a day which is a good hour or so of studying and drawing.

Is drawing on the right side of the brain actually worth doing or is it kind of a meme. Also do I really need to construct that viewfinder square?
>>

You have like 40 fucking characters and they all have this same template face/body/pose thing going on. For the love of god please throw the template shit out and try to refine a select few of your OCs. Just keep iterating on them and try drawing them doing something other than standing at a 3/4 angle.

Right side is the only correct way of drawing. Left side is the meme party trick, Left is the kind of retard that says "feel the vibe and feel the form", it might "look" as if they are IM but once you look closely you realize it's garbage that's basically on /beg/ tier.

People that use the right side eventually master the craft. Construction, Perspective, Gatekeep.

Left is drawing forms by memory, also known by these fucking faggots as imagination. You are just copying shit from the databank. There is no real struggle here, you will never challenge yourself but it teaches you what is appealing and what's not.

Right is drawing forms with constructions, fundamentals, perspectives, planes, it's a massive struggle too.

Basically if it ain't well constructed, it's a party trick. a really impressive one that takes year to be good at but a party trick nonetheless

Repetition is the key apparently.

If you're trying to learn 3 point perspective, throw in draw a city sky scrapers with windows (boxes and shape faces in perspective), draw an old west town street, put your name in block letters in 3 point perspective. Just something different to apply the skill.
