Brother, artists have always been mentally ill. You have to be to some degree to spend so many hours in isolation. I will say however, that most artists these days are just larping as artists because they're exploring they're identity or whatever. It's like a pair of jeans for them, they'll try it on, see if people like how it looks on them, then eventually down the road put them in a closet and never wear them again. Also for the record, a true artist isn't afraid to open minded about any idea. This includes both things people would consider racist or offensive, or in your case, trannies and the gays. You keep your mind closed off to any ideas because it hurts your sensibilities and you're already limiting your ability to express the fullness of the human condition. Reality will always offend someone because many people aren't comfortable with who they are, so embrace it.
