I am very new to drawing. Right now my process is drawing the outlines with regular lead pencils and then color with dry colored pencils

But it makes a mess as you can see in the character's face. It looks like the lead is smudging.

Would better pencils and paper help here? Anything I can do so lead is secured on paper?

What are my alternatives that allow correction when I make mistakes? I would like to draw outlines with lead because it is erasable. But mixing them with me colored pencils seems to be a no go.

I heard about those dough like erasers that can erase dry/wax based colored pencils (so I can use black dry pencil instead) but they don't seem to be very good

One option:
Do your linework in pencil.
Ink over the lines you wish to keep.
Give the ink a few minutes to set fully.
Erase the pencil lines.
Then color. The colored pencils will not muddy the inked lines, though it is still possibly to cover them partially.

I use a Pilot Razor Point to ink, and a Pentel Hi-Polymer or Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser afterwards.

Thanks, I will give tracing with a pen over pencil a try as well. I have some pens but they seem to be releasing too much ink

Today I tried using a black dry colored pencils instead of lead pencil and it is a lot better, no smudges. However if I make a mistake it is not really erasable.

I will also buy one of those gum kind erasers that is meant for lifting the vax/color off. Maybe it will be some help

Start with a graphite pencil to build your sense of value first.

Good taste. The zoomers here don't even know this quality show exists. Best shit to watch on a Sunday evening with a nice cold drink.

Wait...that IS from Aria, right? Or did you just steal the design and remove details?

Yes, it is Alicia from Aria. The art is not mine though, I traced most of it (no bully)

Try some markers. Start out with some cheap ones on amazon, no need to get the Prisma colour 120 box straight off the rip. You can do some faint pencil lines with a light pencil like a 2H, and then add marker over the top to block in the colours. Then once the marker is dry, do some fine liner / micron pen over the top for details and darker blacks.
A lot of that clamp production work was done in markers like pic related.

Keep it light and experiment.
Good luck anon. I look forward to seeing you return with more work.
