It's not just that artists are more interested in being visually unique, consumers and casual begs like it. It goes further visually than the rest of the culture mostly because it's visual media. But also because art nerds will be nerds, and if you're already in that slot you're just as likely to throw cringe to the wind as you are to become hypersensitive against it
