What do you call this style of hashing?

>>7890777It looks to me that that's actually scratch board.I assume it's probably white scratch board, with the blacks fully inked in, and then hatches scratched back over.Quickly looking up the artist, and yes he uses scratch board, so it is safe to assume that's the medium here.So I guess it's called scratch board hatching?.. if you want a name for it, anyway. For digital, just fill a black area, and hatch with the eraser tool, or white, to achieve similar results.
>>7890882I remember there was an artist from the 90s or 80s in America who was famous for this style I just can't remember his name
>>7890891bernie Wrightson? he used pen and ink tho
>>7890897I was wrong about the era. it was Franklin Booth
>>7890922>it was Franklin BoothI believe Booth was actually imitating scratch board artworks, as he didn't realise such a thing existed and assumed it was all done with pen & ink.
>>7891248I don't know about that but this artist Semmes to be heavily inspired by Franklin Booth
>>7890777Did he really make each and every dot in that tornado?
>>7890882thats exactly it.Nico Delort is the artist.
>>7892665I guess
>>7892665Possibly. It's also possible that he drew/scratched out a single line, and then went back over the line with ink, breaking the line up into 'dots'.
>>7892665No, those are gaps in the hatching, its precise linework
>>7890777It's not only the hatching, the shapes on that drawing are so fucking good.It doesn't even look like a real drawing.
