I am trying to draw my own comics but I've never colored before. I'm looking at getting some markers to color. Are these Ohuhu alcohol based markers good for beginners? Should I get a coloring book to practice coloring?

Just do black and white?

I think it'd look cooler in color

We've got some Sanjoki markers. Paid $40 for 120 brush tips. They were actually quite great for learning. One thing you may find is that many of them are dark enough to obliterate any fine linework you have done. We bought a set of pastel Ohuhu (again, brush tip) to have a larger selection of pale colors and they are great.

Also, prismacolors overlay alcohol markers very well. We often use a marker base with colored pencil details and texture. Normally, pencils require effort to fill a region without whitespace in between scribbles. The marker underlay solves this.

Oh, if you do try Sanjokis (or other lesser-known brands), be aware of two things: One, some colors can bleed into adjacent pages even days after the drawing is complete. So don't store your work in a stack. Two, when removing the cap, turn away from your work. Sometimes you'll throw a tiny drip or two.

>can't draw
>can't write
>"IMMA MAKE A COMIC"
Why?

it sounds like you're trolling but it's not uncommon to see post-beg traditional artists who have never drawn with anything other than a pencil/pen, idk what OP's skill level is but I don't think his questions are dumb

it's typical for comic book artists to have separate stages. they usually draw the rough sketches, then linework/inking, then the color. usually they do each of these steps after scanning and printing/tracing so they can fix mistakes and keep future iterations clean. the final comic is usually a printable size, but the original comics are MASSIVE, ie the size of a small flatscreen TV. the shrinking hides all of the noise, artifacts, and minor mistakes.

you're more than welcome to try drawing and coloring everything in one go using bristol board or something, just undertand that you will have a lot of opportunities to fuck it up if you're using traditional media for comics. also, keep in mind blocking out your panels and poses. that's also usually much easier digitally.

more importantly, don't buy anything from amazon. it's just a marked up front for temu now, same as etsy.

at some point you need to work on actual projects, you can't just draw anime girl heads in the void for the rest of your life
and if you wait until you're ready, well, you'll never be ready. I don't know if that's even possible
look at the first page of ksbd
then look at the last

Are you royalty?

Yeah, they'll be fine. Honestly markers are so expensive that using them as your main coloring method doesn't seem worth it, so I wouldn't invest too much if I were you.

Why? Just color your own drawings.
