I've got 1000 pages worth of sketchbooks.
I want to finally learn how to draw from imagination and go from the left side of pic related (my actual art, some from imagination, some from references) to the right (drawing without references and with minimal guidelines, like Kim Jung Gi or Peter Han is the main goal).

How should I spend those pages? What exercises should I do exactly to get as far as I can on this journey?

Yes, I draw like Kim Jung Gi, let me tell you how...

If only these guys had books or video courses...

Unironically just pay for comic artists who draw very well in perspective to redline your work as your ability for time and realism is decent but still is lacking in terms of accurate form and perspective, most obvious in your vehicle drawings.

Jokes aside, while I'm not as good as those guys, I have some ideas:

-I'm not some KJG study expert but isn't he the guy who always talks about how he just goes outside, looks at things and then goes home and draws them from memory? Maybe that's an exercise to try. Time to touch grass?

-I seem to remember he also tends to draw on very large drawing surfaces, rather than your tiny sketchbooks. I mean, he literally draws on walls. That's not really what you normally do when you're just sketching or doodling and it's at least a part of the reason why his work looks better and more finished. It's done in larger scale, so he can work smaller details and the downscaling into a small jpg also disappears many of the small imperfections that would be more noticeable up close.

-Related to above... simply going slower and spending more time should improve your quality. The drawings on the right may have a surface "sketchiness" to them but I think most of them are more performative and intentionally public-facing than something you would just vomit into your sketchbook for fun/practice/ideation. There's often a difference between practical concept art that's actually used in projects (it can look quite crappy just as long as it communicates an idea) and the "concept art" that big artists and studios actually show to the public. The latter can be touched up versions of the actual concept art or even just created for the very purpose of being published in some art book sold for profit, so not truly concept art in the honest sense. Not accusing any specific artists shown here, of course.

At the moment I'm thinking about doing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aJOCrG8JEU
But I hope to maybe get some more input from you guys before committing to that plan.

Have you seen The Dynamic Bible by Peter Han? It would be a complete waste of money if I had bought it, he just assembled his random sketchbook pages and notes to sell a "book". His video course is pretty much the same as what Draw A Box guy offers and /ic/ loves to clown on him. Books by Kim Jung Gi are just his sketchooks as well rather than actual tutorials or guides and I haven't found any video courses by him on this specific topic.

Completely different skillsets, the moment you start trying to draw from imagination you will instantly be a beg again. You will have to start from scratch.

Unless you are some kind of genius, you really need to learn construction/guidelines if you just started to draw from imagination.

It’s this simple. It’s important to understand that you can draw from imagination but you’ll have to get the parts of your brain that know how to draw from ref to recreate those same lines without looking at your subject. Think about it like trying to learn a bike without training wheels. The best thing to do is to draw from memory/imagination more and more, and then your ability to recreate lines you already know will be less difficult
