I've been drawing for years and I still get caught in the cycle of "You should draw when you feel like it/You should always draw". I hate this shit.
I always feel too shit and lonely to draw. Everything takes so long and when you sre finally finished, noone will care about it anyway
I just set a schedule and then I don't have to worry about my neuroses assuming direct control of my hobby
>>7897106Schedules don't work for me anymore. I say "I will draw tomorrow". Then when tomorrow comes I sit down on my pc, get my tablet, open Krita, then I draw for 5 minutes before realizing I truly can't stomach it. Forcing myself used to work. Idk what's happening.
>>7897101Not OP. I don't care if no one cares about my work.I just would like to improve, but I am in an infinite plateau instead.
>>7897110Oh well, I tried. Good luck or whatever
>>7897110I have the same problem. Even tho Im definitely getting better, I just can't stomach it anymore to sit down and draw for long. I just have too much other shit on my mind I think. Getting older also doesn't help. Everything in my liife seems hopeless and drawing takes so long and requires so much patience and willpower. The good thing is, I have internet and at least can share my drawings with people. But still, it just seems so senseless...
>>7897118I am improving and also have enough ideas and inspirations, but I just feel like I'm in a void with my life and everything around me turns to shit. Having people who appreciate my drawings at least gives me some kind of purpose. I've been alone my whole life and if people like my drawings it makes me feel a bit less alone.
I think what kind of helps me to draw more is rage drawing. I once heard KJG say that he used to rage draw when he was younger. I think that's a good attitude. Just drawing to express yourself, to show people how good you are, and maybe also to torture yourself?
Consider killing yourself. Heard it helps with solving nearly any issue
>>7897088OP you have grown up in an era where the entire world is clamoring for your attention. its span is completely shot. it makes perfect sense that you struggle to form discipline or habits. especially wrt to hobbies -- we are taught a hobby is useless if you are not good at it or if you can't otherwise use it to acquire capital most, if not all, of those artists who drew consistently from a young age or consistently draw after starting later in life have external circumstances that push them to draw. beyond our shot attention spans, we are social creations we crave recognition, and so: >they're in fandoms and have art friends>they want to impress someone >they want more compliments on their art >they have figured out how to monetize their work and want $$$>they need to see their favorite fetish realized and have others see it too and etc., etc.i would recommend you join something like draw every day. number go Up is an incredible motivator and one your years of playing vidya have taught you to enjoy
>>7897149>number go Up is an incredible motivator It also demotivate thoNot every artstyle suits to the internet.
>>7897088Hard deadlines with some serious loss at stake work for me, but even then Parkinson's law takes over every time and I use every stalling method at my disposal and do the bare minimum.
>>7897175There are two options for you. Either you make the style so monumentally good that people WILL start to take notice (takes some serious work of course), or you actually start caring what audiences/customers care about. It ain't a charity, it's a business. Also, historically many unique artists are often more appreciated only after post-mortem, although in this modern age the far more likely scenario is that the style JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH to warrant money and glory. You should try stepping into other people's shoes sometime, not just your own.
>>7897141You first
Drawing never gets easier, even if you're really good, you still rely on the same motivation chemicals as when you first started. I finally understand those old artists that turn to AI. They spent their life drawing and they're worn out. AI is like playing a game for years and then putting gameshark codes to fly or create god weapons for fun. People who start with AI are shit but this new angle I've recently become aware of is more understandable.I'm tired
>>7897106schedules are for slaves
>>7897380Social media just favors flashy art. It has nothing to do with being good or not. It's about pandering to dopamine receptor fried gooners. Real isn't trying to be trendy and trying to chase after the current big meme, but that's how you get views on social media.
>>7897088This world favours the delusional and stubborn. Every lie you tell yourself comes true in one way or another. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaLfiKq_Kvw
>>7897110Why do you want to draw? What are your goals? What are the things you want to create? The answers to these questions will drive your motivation. Otherwise you're just practicing to prepare for more practice
>>7897515I want to make manga. But the manga I'm working on requires me to draw some concept arts that are extremely boring to make. That kinda killed my motivation.
>>7897613NTA but making manga is extremely hard. It's very tedious and complex in general. I also started a story but stopped at page 6, wrote a bunch of shortstories, etc, but it's just so much shit you have to draw.Currently I rather try to just focus on illustrations again. Fits more to my (which is being very slow)
>get good enough to do commissions>every commission is some horrifical or bizzare idea that I hate>start hating drawing because of it>can't stop because I don't have any other skillsholy shit. now I know why artists troon out or kill themselves.
>>7897088This is kind of an interesting topic. But this board sucks so I'll just post this frog.
>>7897638humble brag
>>7897613What party of making a manga drives your the most? Use that as a gateway into the boring stuff. If you like storyboarding more than designing characters or locations just start with that and that will begin to suggest design directions you can follow
>>7897088Just keep doing it. I have days where I'll put half a scribble down and call it a day and then I'll have others where I grind through multiple pages of my sketchbook (though multiple pages in a day is a bit of rarity for me). In a similar way I've had days where I really wanted to draw only to not make anything and days where I was resisting right until I put my pencil down and had actual fun. You have to show up every day, doesn't matter if it's 5 minutes or 5 hours.
nobody actually draws everyday AND draws well. You can study every day but you can't create unique finished pieces of consistent quality every day.
>>7898720That's true. Soul exists in limited quantity, and after spending all of it on a crappily drawn anime girl floating in a white void you gotta wait for it to refill.
>>7897613How can you make manga if you're not japanese? Isn't that just a comic or graphic novel?
>>7898749I guess
>>7897110>I say "I will draw tomorrow".Your problem is that that's too vague.I draw daily 5-7pm, and don't allow myself to skip it unless I have some other commitment. I set an alarm, and when it rings it rings, I drop whatever and draw for 2h.
>>7897110"I will draw tomorrow" is not a schedule."I will sit down at my PC at 8am. I will set an alarm for 9am, and when that alarm rings I will alt-f4 everything on my PC and open my drawing program. I will set another alarm for 8pm, and I'm not allowed to open any other program on my PC until that alarm goes off" is a schedule.
>>7897613Show me. NOW.>requires me to draw some concept arts It does not. If it's preventing you from starting, skip it.
>>7901277>>7898771No. It's not too vague. I always draw at the same time of day which is the only moment of my weekdays in which I have time to draw. Like I said, I don't have a problem with starting. I have a problem with drawing for more than a few minutes
>>7901278Don't get all excited. It's not all that. And yes, the concept arts *are* necessary if I want to keep the designs consistent. I learned it the hard way.
>>7901553Oh it's you>the concept arts *are* necessary if I want to keep the designs consistentThat depends on how important it is to you to keep things strictly consistent. Actual pros can't be bothered to do that a lot of the time.
