Does anyone dislike art where you can't imagine yourself as the artist?
>>
As in "You can't imagine yourself drawing something like this" or "This person is so far outside of my skill level that I hate them"?

Both I suppose. If the subject matter doesn't appeal to me, and the skill level is beyond my abilities, then I cannot self-insert as the artist. I don't enjoy art unless I can imagine myself having created it. Similar to porn, I can't get off unless the girl matches my girlsona

No. Part of the spectacle of art, for me, is seeing what another person was able to do with their skill in the craft. Just like how I don't want to mundane performances at an athletic event, I don't want to see crappy middling art. Wow me with your technical skill, or compositional skill, or colour choices, etc.

I suppose there's some level of 'self insertion' when it comes to taste; if I wouldn't draw it, then it probably isn't something I care all that much to look at.

I took the opportunity to track down the source of this reaction image and convert it properly to a webbum

only if it looks like it was purposefully done in really bad taste or something

No. Part of the reason I make art is because my own tastes are fairly unique. But I still greatly enjoy some things.
I could not, and would not, make picrel, Gurren Lagann or Metal Gear Solid, but these are some of my favorite artpieces.

And yes picrel is not really the most technically-skilled thing, but I fucking love it. It encapsulates so much. I could not have come up with every element of it in this way nor decided to execute it in such a manner. My brain simply thinks of things differently from this artist.

What's weird the google's slop generator tried to convince me that it was from The Foot First Way. Was about to torrent it too, but came to my senses and followed the initial clue from reverse image search, which was (and this is for real) Researchgate. It mentioned the band only though. From there looked on YouTube, where some kind soul literally named their video "Blink 182 WTF gif meme origin". Since I'm not a connoisseur of that band, had to search by lyrics. yt-dlp, two passes with ffmpeg, etc etc.

Thanks, hero. I'll be sure to make use of this

i have very rarely seen anime artists depict how wood becomes damaged or deteriorated.
even professional studios don't depict it right.
