>How long have you been drawing?
5 years abstract digital art, took a 4 year break, and came back a few days ago for a contest. (Studying anatomy atm for it)
>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
Passion, almost gave up out of frustration, but this contest reignited the flame.
>Have you made it? If not, why?
No, because I'm dogshit.
>What do you like most about your work?
The fact that I'm free to draw anything I want without constraints because I'm aware I'm NGMI.

OP here, I'll start.

>How long have you been drawing?
Since high school, although there was a period where I stopped taking art seriously to focus on other things.

>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
It's been both, but I still want it to be a passion despite where I am in my life. I want to be able to make something I've proud of while working my normie job. I don't really have a following, but I've gotten into contact with mutuals that share similar interests in regards to art.

>Have you made it? If not, why?
No, part of it is my fault (largely due to me not knowing whether I wanted to work in illustration) and kneecapping myself again and again in terms of networking. I just don't see myself as the type of person that wants to see art as work. Maybe that's to my detriment? I don't know.

>What do you like most about your work?
I liked that I quit drawing anime and now have a focused vision. My skill levels still aren't where I want them to be but I can safely say that I finally have a voice that's all my own.

>Socials?
I mostly just share on Discord with my friends

>>How long have you been drawing?
Since 2023 I’ve been putting real effort into it. Before that, I was just messing around, not taking it seriously.
>>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
It’s a passion, but not my job—which is great.
>>Have you made it? If not, why?
I’m having fun every time I draw, paint, or sculpt; I don't have to worry about money for now, so yeah, I’ve made it.
>>What do you like most about your work?
The problem solving, and the fact that I can bring the ideas in my mind to life. I’ve got a huge backlog of things I want to draw.
>>Socials?
No socials. I don’t post finished work here anymore, just doodles or quick figure sketches, here a collection of stuff I drew in 2024.

Just a hobby, like playing games.

I'm convinced it won't happen to me.

>Lmao no. I'm too asocial and autistic to really market myself or put myself out there. I draw stuff because I am compelled to depict the stuff I imagine.
>It is an avenue for expressing my imagination and one of the last sources of enjoyment I have in life.

The bulk of my drawings are just me depicting elements of my autistic worldbuilding project. I don't really find much enjoyment out of drawing fanart etc.

>How long have you been drawing?
all my life, like literally everyone that picked up a crayon as toddler, no? but only seriously since last march (studying fundies, ridding myself of symbol drawing etc)
>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
still a hobby i would guess, if i were passionate enough i'd probably be better and draw a lot more. i did make 200 pieces and around 1000 sketches last year, judging from the paper mountain i have amassed, but it could be at least double in size if there was true, burning passion behind it.
>>Have you made it? If not, why?
dunno, a little goal-less right now. making it should only be referred to the goal one sets for themself i feel, not what others perceive it is. fame? fortune? who cares about that shit. superficial. theres better and easier ways to get attention and monies.
>What do you like most about your work?
how fun it is in the zone once you managed to enter it. only like every other piece i produce though, but the process can be a fun one. better than any chemical coursing throuhg your veins.

31. I'm a beginner going through Drawing on the right side of the brain. First time I'm trying to follow through with an art book instead of floundering around and doing shitty copies. Pic is a study of a Van Gogh in the book that I did for extra practice a couple days ago.

>How long have you been drawing?
Started last year but wasted most of it either not knowing what to do or just not drawing
>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
Hobby, I suppose. Always wanted to learn since I enjoy it but it's harder than I expected
>Have you made it? If not, why?
No but I'll get there eventually. I'm learning to accept that that my progress will be slow.
>What do you like most about your work?
Most of my hobbies are artistic. Creating things gives me a unique sense of fulfillment that I don't get from vidya or other hobbies.
>>
>>7901494
>Most of my hobbies are artistic. Creating things gives me a unique sense of fulfillment that I don't get from vidya or other hobbies.
Based. I can still play vidya but I can only play up to an hour or so before I have to move onto something else. I find that creation and the act of learning and growing is much more fulfilling rather than passive engagement through games or shows.

>>How long have you been drawing?
Digitally, since 2011. In general, since 2003, the earliest work I remember doing was the red Rahkshi Bionicle. Bionicles are fucking cool
>>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
They're synonyms to me. You wouldn't be doing a hobby if you didn't like it, right?
>>Have you made it? If not, why?
If your metric for "making it" is monetary success, then no. It might be cope, but there's a silver lining to that, in that it's freeing in a way, to not have your art be bound by monetary expectations, on the one hand it's a bummer I can't just live off my art, but most cons come with a pro. This is one of those examples. I'm entirely free to take my art any direction I want
>>What do you like most about your work?
That I'm able to nail on canvas ideas I have in my head. Like, they're nebulous concepts at first but when I draw them down it's a special kind of satisfying to see them "concretized", if that makes sense, become tangible. I like creating characters and designs
>>Socials?

>>

>sucks the life out of me.
i think drawing is also very intense when you get into it, moreso than most sitting down jobs. but with drawing you most likely do it because you want to and theres a tangible outcome, fruits of your own labour basically, not something you did so the bossman can go out to the town that night because you slaved your ass off. i think when you work a boring office job or something backbreaking at least once in your life, you will appreciate the process of art and the grind a lot more. it could be worse! you could be punching in sensless datasets into a screen all day.

Good artists are inherently not black pillable. They are easily motivated by art they like rather than demotivated by art they dislike. I always felt blackpillers are just airing out their own creative depression. Shitting in public for others to observe.

Six of the posters have barely drawn consistantly for four years or more, to which age at this point has no bearing. I'd say these don't look so bad for that length of time especially coming out of rusty habits or in some cases starting from square one. I'm 33.

>How long have you been drawing?
Forever. It wasn't until 2015 that I really started trying to knuckle down because I had reasons to strive to improve, but I only got the chance to focus on art full time for the last six years. That gap in between 2015 and 2021 made me a miserable little art chud who was trapped on Roraima. It was bad.

>Is art a hobby or a passion for you?
When people say something like "This is just my hobby!" That's usually a pathetic excuse not to give it their all right? To me it's either passion or nothing.

>Have you made it? If not, why?
In a lot of ways. Not in some other ways, I'm workin' awn it.

>What do you like most about your work?
Right now hatching is my big thing. It's fun and it looks cool. I'm a comic artist so I feel pretty fulfilled in life, but it leaves next to no energy for anything else so I don't really do illustrations or things like that often anymore.

Thank you. Like I said, I am compelled to draw this autistic shit. I don't really have any concrete end goal or purpose for any of this besides the enjoyment I get out of this worldbuilding. What vague fantasies and ideas for an actual use for this setting I have boil down to "maybe I'll make a webcomic/some simple videogame etc" type of stuff. I don't even have anyone irl with whom to share this autistic nonsense lel. It is a mental compulsion.

I started at 30 with no prior drawing experience, I'm now 35 and can kind of draw coom. It's nowhere near something that can pull patreon bux but it's a definite improvement over stick figures. I like when it turns out degenerate and don't really have any hang ups over being above base instincts or whatever. No socials and no plans to make any at the moment. Pic rel is recent but I aimed to learn new tech on this piece instead of just having fun with it.

nta but I turned 38 last week and with a lifetime of being told I can't do anything because I was born a sperg, I can't deal with difficultly or failure well. I started around 2020, maybe 2019. I'm stuck with the Loomus meme with no other direction. I usually can't stay in a good enough mood to concentrate for long. I do mange a Xmas card every year that my family likes but otherwise I never get much done.

35 years old here
>How long ?
Since my childhood. I was always drawing but really stagnating. Art school taught me some basics but I was still so far behind most of the students. I'm still learning and I'm only serious about it since 3 years.
>Hobby or passion ?
Passion, I just can't stop thinking about it. But I have many other passions I can't stop thinking about...
>Have you made it ?
I guess. Made some exhibitions, got paid for some illustrations and I've been running some art workshops. Most of the time it doesn't pay the bills but I don't care, I just like to draw.
>What do you like most about your work ?
Doing it. Most of the time the outcome doesn't satisfy me.
