i strongly object, op. my favorite is the coolest. (oh hey i sound like a kid.) i’ve been studying his designs for a while now and the deeper i dive, the more masterfully complex and beautiful i find every facet. as i come to understand each layer, i find i’ve excavated to yet another layer of design built underneath, of all new aspects i never knew existed, over and over. arghh i love it so much i just want to study it more.it’s like when i read really, really captivating sf that was written by someone who spent most of their life working as an engineer at nasa and an astrophysics professor post retirement. everything about the work is just so deep and richly imagined.>sorry i won’t say his name because his art means too much to me, and we’re on this site, after all.

He animated everything in the movie himself by hand, some of you plebs may recognize similar style in Loving Vincent but that one was just rotoscopy done by a bunch of hired monkeys who traced over pictures, meanwhile Petrov did everything himself and without tracing. Took him 3 years and finance from French-Canadians (God bless 'em) to make this. We'll never have anything like this again.Over the years I've started to hate the Disney style in the West, doing big takes for everything animated. Even the 3D stuff in non cartoon movies is done like that. It's so telegraphed and annoying, they just don't know how to animate anymore. Then there's this unreal stuff done by hand, technical perfection. How do you even animate like this? I don't even care if they rotoscoped.
