>takes one year to copy an AI image in oils
How long does it take for you to paint something better WITHOUT copying from AI
>>
>>7903012
Copying is what permabegs do. Artists interpret
>>
>>7903057
like when maybe when you use the pose of some guy on line of action but you are actually drawing the features and clothing of a character with it?
>>
>>7903057
Nigga copying is the most fundamental art skill, you can’t understand form and the interpretation of such if you can’t copy properly. But I do agree that copying 1:1 past a certain point is a little retarded.
>>
>>7903057
why do real permabegs think they can skip out of beg by ignoring fundamental exercises?
they think spending an hour copying something will destroy them or something
>>
>>7903012
Kind of a long time to copy something. Was he just doing like 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there? I guess it is massive, but even then, unless it's just being worked on infrequently, a year is way too long to complete a copy.
Something of that scale, full time, maybe a month.

Real permabegs think copying is impressive so they end up painting slop like pic rel and they don't see what is wrong with it
>>
>>7903076
>is the most fundamental
That's why it's what permabegs do. At some point you have to graduate from the fundamental and go your own way.
>>
when should you move on from copying things? when you can make something good consistently from copying?
>>
Nah, at this point that style is literally associated with cheap low effort slop by everybody and the sentiment will only continue to degrade as time goes on. The only reason this fucker would ever do this is purely for the engagement bait, there's no way he actually thinks this was a worthwhile effort. As a matter of fact it was probably more like a month or two long endeavor.
>>
>>7903147
There are two forms of copying. One trains your observational skills, the other requires purpose and intent and is called as study. You "move on" from copying once your understanding has grown enough to where you only rely on things for reference not to fully copy.

>At some point you have to graduate from the fundamental and go your own way.

That's like saying at some point you'll have to graduate from doing compound lifts and go your own way. Your art is your blade and the fundamentals your whet stone.
>>
>>7903147
>when should you move on from copying things?
Never? When you draw real pictures with bacgrounds and everything, there will always be things you don't know how to draw from imagination and you will always have to look for references to copy or trace.
>>
>>7903012
Disgusting slop. Why are Germans like that?
>>
>>7903133
God you're such a moron. Drawing is the translation of 3d objects to 2d space. You will always need to copy and copy accurately, there is no graduation. Doesnt mean become a human xerox but there is nothing wrong with copying even for commercial finished illustration unless some form of copyright infringement is involved, its not "cheating," its necessary.
>>
>>7903199
>Drawing is creating the illusion of threedimensionality with a 2D medium, you don't have to translate anything.
is that not what i just said? is there a language barrier here? or are you just playing semantics?
>>
>>7903197
Copyfags seething
>>
>>7903012
okay first I think he's sandbagging to make a point, second who ever fucking painted less than a dozen things at a time? if you don't have 10+ partially finished paintings then I don't think you're actually painting.

Portrait artists are so pathetic. They can't do shit but copy Pinterest references like retards
>>
>>7903197
Painting is not drawing. You can paint from silhouette. When painting from reference you don't need exact colors. It's impossible to get the exact colors anyway. Copying is a wrong word here. If artist were just copying then art would be obsolete. There would be no arguments againts photography and ai. Art is authentic because there is always some stylization to a certain degree even in realism

>Portrait artists are so pathetic.
You need to post your work if you're calling other artists pathetic.

No its not lol you're just a low iq retard with aphantasia
Before the digital age "people" like you were meant to install dry wall or something similarly manual, not do art
If you can't start a piece of entirely from imagination you need to quit and stop polluting my hobby with your soulless nigger copyslop
>>
>>7903851
I never said it was the only thing to do. I do plenty of straight from imagination pieces. It’s necessary to make money from copying a lot of illustrators, it’s just a skill. Unless you have infinite free time or are just treating it as a hobby, copying can speed things along for no downside. I don’t get why you would scorn a tool, it’s like saying using a ruler isn’t necessary, puritan bullshit.
>>
>>7903851
>* It’s necessary to make money from copying for a lot of illustrators

Could have worded that better but I think we’re talking about two different things at this point regardless, I don’t think it matters too much.

I don’t like spending more than something like 40 hours on a painting
I don’t care if it’s good I want to get onto the next painting because each one always ends up different and not each is great
Some are shit and some are less shit
I don’t paint to sell and I don’t post anything on the internet
I put it up in my home on my walls

Maybe when you get really good you spend this time I don’t see why yet
>>

> a whole year just to copy a picture
Is he legitimately retarded?

Unironically, yes.
