A blank page that I installed a Cassandra into, doing something magical. The Something came out well enough to have Professor Milo admiring it, and their interactions grew around it, and the panels bounce around the negative spaces around their tableu, requiring the reader to follow a numbered trail. World Building through dialog, a duel of dares, a dance of ideals. And after doing this...

I did this.

I never tried drawing an anthromorph nude before, and I decided to attempt it to educate myself. Getting her expression right was the goal, a dare with sociopolitical undertones, things that need explanation. The anthromorphs were slaves of humans until a long revolutionary war ended a decade ago, so there is a dynamic in play. In another story revolved around Spark Keepers, anthromorph girls given to young male aristocrats to set the Spark of Puberty alight, and sometimes the arrangement was sought by both, a way out of harsher duties for the slave girls, who were occasionally older than their human master and took advantage of the situation. So her smile suggests those implications of centuries of culture are in her mind as she spreads her invitation like playing cards at a poker showdown.

I think you're at a point where you should start taking anatomy more seriously.
A lot of this is just guess work, or what "feels right", or "looks believable enough".
You obviously have good intuition regarding the female figure, but now you need to refine it with truth.

I'm getting exhausted rewriting my critique and being meticulous, so I'm gonna condense it heavily in to caveman speak:

I would have kept it mostly the same anyway, just for the silhouette and the way mind imagine her really dragging/lifting that ass forward in a weird/awkward way, with elbow leading the movement. The elbow overlap angles are a bit off for it though. Your example is definitely the most natural way to draw the arm here.

This is where I agree with the most. Ironically, backs specifically are something I get lot of praise for, even though I still think they are a subject-in-progress. But yeah, it's questionable enough to raise some eyebrows.

I don't really think much when I draw. I only see what my imagination tells me, as well as I can see it. If I had done more zooming out for extra comprehension, I probably would have adjusted things, but since the main purpose of this drawing was to see how well I can do with 100% locked in zoom for a great-value result, I'm very happy how it turned out in such a short stretch of time. Even if I were to somehow stay locked at my current quality level forever, I'd be satisfied if this is all the effort and time it takes.

The pose is actually fine and possible, it's just that for it to make sense and look good, so many other things need to change in relation.
It's not an easy pose to draw for an arm because it's not particularly common and it's certainly not one used for gripping and lifting something, that's why I proposed a less awkward arm.

but it is what it is. after all "there are no rules, only tools".

Anatomy is not as important as you think it is.
It's the whipped cream with the cherry on top of your milkshake,
but obviously you need to have a milkshake first.
The single most important part of drawing is being able to break down a subject in to it's simplest three-dimensional components.
I know how to draw a book because I know how to draw a rectangular prism.
I know how to draw a snake because I know how to draw a tube.
I know how to draw ass cheeks because I know how to draw two spheres side by side.
etc.
Practice this along with gesture and you're 90% complete.
The remaining 10% is just garnish, albeit incredibly valuable garnish.

Thank you, anon. It's a combination of not having much experience with color balance and compositing. What I did was play with the luminescence using an orange overlay, but while I liked the end result, it looked a little washed out, and I didn't know where to go from there.

Do you recommend any resources to learn more about color balance?

I just have 5 monitors and tediously compared them until I could not get them compare more accurately. I'm sure there are better ways to achieve color accuracy, but that's what I did.

To be honest, I'm still working on that myself, which is part of why I took interest in the subject. However, if you find yourself with results that lean too bright, I recommend starting off with a darker background. I recommend using 50-58% brightness grey background while you work on the WIP, 55% would be optimal, unless you've got something specific in mind.

Drawing is less than 10% of your success on social media.

My accounts are DeviantArt, Pixiv, Twitter, Instagram, NewGrounds and Tumblr. That's also the order from The most interaction to the least interaction.

For DeviantArt, you can't post sexualized underage characters or even aged up characters UNLESS they are behind paid gallery. You can't post involuntary sex either UNLESS it's behind paid gallery.

For Pixiv you need to censor genitalia, simple black box or mosaic is enough. You can have a link in your bio that leads to non-censored works but you CAN NOT advertise it by saying "See the uncensored version here". Just list your lenient sites and DO NOT say anything about uncensored. The viewers know why you list those other sites, you don't need to say it out loud.

For NewGrounds anything goes, you just need to to tag it mature correctly.

Pick a light source and stick to it like glue.
From what I can tell the light source is directly above - the shadow under her
body being the biggest tell - so shade relative to that.

Make your shadows darker, doesn't need to be a ridiculous amount;
I should be able to know what's a shadow and what's not immediately from a glance.
A good rule of thumb is if the shading doesn't make sense when the
shadows are black, then something's wrong.

There's no need for that highlight on the back leg, it's in an area receiving no light.

A tiara is shiny, it could use a highlight or two.

The hair needs shadows on it's undersides as well, not just the figure.

You should probably commit to shading the underside of the front leg as well since
that area is receiving no light relative to the light source.
Yes I could see how it would not need shading - but again, establishing your light source better
will mitigate ambiguous interpretations.

That ankle bone is jutting out, yes?
Which means it needs shading under it because it's keeping light from getting to that area.
Just like you did with the knee cap.

Where her left wrist meets the glove there needs to be shading because the cuff of the glove
is shielding light from that area.

You say that as if all of the modifications you've just made - which greatly improved your work - aren't already part of the rendering process.
You opted for a hard cel-shaded style drawing with a very simplistic subject and environment, so there isn't much to render in the first place. The rendering isn't "ass", it's just simple.

Beyond the bare fundamentals of rendering which are just your base colors and lighting/shading, you get in to a realm where your tastes as an artist have to take over.
This is probably why you feel like something is "missing" - the work is fundamentally sound but doesn't have anything to make it truly "yours".

You could add more highlights in other lit areas if you want her to look shinier or oiled up.
You could change your shadows to be hatched lines instead.
You could opt for more of a stencil shading look with hard black shadows.
You could soften the edges between lit areas and shaded areas - having a gradient of light to dark instead of the 100% hard cel-shaded approach.
You could play with the colors more; make your shaded areas a different hue from the lit areas. This is one place where color theory starts to rear it's menacing head.
You could play with the color of the outlines.
You could have shadows within your shadows. It's not a rule to use only one level of brightness for shadows unless you yourself stipulate it.
You could mix and match one or more of these options.
You could ...
So on and so forth to infinity.

Rendering is about establishing the fundamentals of light first (color, shadows, highlights, and reflections are all light-related phenomena), and secondly pushing the envelope of what that light is communicating in creative ways.

There are no rules, only tools.

I'm still
experimenting but I use
All normal layers with the stroke brush.
Stroke brush gets soft or sharp depending on how hard I press.
Soft or sharp pen for highlights.
Then airbrush for blush or lights set to soft light.
I only use multiply for specific things like water or something that effects an objects look like a wet t-shirt or sunglasses.

A little bit like what this anon was explaining. The colors aren't balanced but he's showing Red,Blue,Green. That seems confusing. There's a simpler way, just convert your picture to black and white and see if it reads well. Color harmony, when a particular color isn't overpowering the other colors I guess. Unless you want it to for like artsy fartsy stuff like tri colors. Or certain moods for vibrant colors or dull colors.
