Picrel from last (very long) FB post, July 9th, 2023.
Unclear, but doesn't look great.
RIP?

NIGGA do you have the SLIGHTEST IDEA WHO THIS IS?

Kids these days don't have even the slightest bit of culture I swear to god, Steve Lichman doesn't deserve this slander.
>>
>>7904228
Poor dude. Wherever he is I hope he's okay
>>
I don't want to check because it would make me sad. There are lots of artists I follow on Twitter who haven't posted in years.
I assume OP only cares about popular mainstream artists.
What happened to Algenpfleger?
>>

>NIGGA do you have the SLIGHTEST IDEA WHO THIS IS?

no

can you tell me
>>
>>7904278
>Algenpfleger
Seeing the permanoobs link on his DA page brought back memories... I miss forum culture
The guy seems to be busy though: his last post on Patreon dates from February this year.
>>
>>7904284
conceptart.org was a true golden age. Shame kids today won't experience it, we are living amongst the ruins.
>>
>>7904312
The bar just slides. People will lament the time where people actually created things and how extremely rich and helpful information was so abundant. If you think it's bad it only gets worse as I'm sure you're aware.
>>
Damn. I remember in the last days of ca, brad not being paid royalties for his educational videos was the beginning of the end of ca. It was held together with duct tape and was hemorrhaging by then, but there was hope it might recover...
>>
>>7904280
Brad was one of those 'my mind is a 3d engine and I can paint anything from imagination and have it look like it's hyper real' guys. Was big in the late 2000s
>>
>>7904269
You call this basic bitch photobashed digital garbage culture? Character just looks like something pulled from a modern(shittified) edition of D&D, and maybe that's exactly what it is?
I honestly have no idea.
At least the subject matter has synergy with the art style, as all I can think of looking at this, is the death of soul.
>>
>>7904422
so, a nobody huh?

>Was big in the late 2000s

ok, so its just a boomer
>>
All these fucking zoomers itt. No wonder this board has completely fallen off.
>>
>>7904438
Too many come here to be little edge lords because of the site's reputation. They're probably not even giving much thought to their 'opinion', they're just trying to elicit a reaction.
They're trolls, but without the humour or wit.
>>
>>7904312
We got to this sorry state of things, unironically, all because of porn.
>>
Concept art is the lamest shit in art compared to the second lamest, by at least a magnitude. I'm not even a zoomer, but every time I hear /ic/ oldfags wax poetic about the good ol' days when men were men and artists painted space marines, I just don't get it. I find the whole thing quaint, visually myopic. It's like if you took Thomas Kinkade and raised him on a diet of Halo and Mountain Dew instead of Jesus, he'd surely make the front page of ArtStation.
Not that the current anime myopia is a much better replacement.
I'm not making fun of this guy though, I'm sympathetic to those suffering health issues.
>>
Art like this is the second most boring thing you could draw right next to pure academic atelier tier slop or hyper realistic grid copies. Despite being technically impressive I always found it dreadfully uninspired as it felt like it's technically impressive for the sake of it alone
>>
>>7904052
photobashing is not real art, this is garbage
>>
>>7904278
>What happened to Algenpfleger?
He's still active on patreon and he's going by his real name now for some reason , I suppose taking care of seaweed isn't cool anymore.
>>
>>7904489
He was pretty good as far as photobashers go imo.

>>7904482
Im curious to know what artists you DO like. The Halo and Mountain dew comment is pertinent, this stuff was the wave back then, the same way white background anime girls is the wave now.

Also, the tech for digital was getting better. Boomer atelier instructors would debate whether digital was really art or not, the same way we talk about AI art today. Thats why this stuff was so amazing at the time. Every year or so, someone would make something that seemed a little more crisp or realistic and everyone would cream their pants and try to copy it.

>This was one of the first tutorials I'd follow.
>Looking at it now, its definitely slop art.

Art is a young man's game and this place doesn't have any barriers to posting, paired with anime being mainstream now there's no question why there are so many fresh faced kids on this board.
>>7904482
>I just don't get it
It's more seeing the journey of great artists all in one place, seeing the struggles and exercises they did to make generic space marine. Having a community where you are shit but can get inspired and feel in competition with your peers, we don't have that anymore thanks everything being consumed by discord and reddit.
>>
>>7904513
Is there any community like that today I want to have an online friend group of artists.
Do we have a discord community?
>>
>>7904513
explains why the board quality somehow got even worse than before
>>
>>7904425
This was painted from imagination, he had videos documenting his skill. What do you paint?
>>
>>7904280
Oh most certainly. The character being depicted here is "Steve Lichman", known mainly for a series of comics created in the early 2010's and still ongoing today, famous for the witty and sacastic retorts of its main character that focus on pointing out the ridiculousness of fantasy tropes in a non-diegetic meta manner. The comic has developed a small cult following amongst many.

The art of the comic itself in my opinion is more appealing than that of the OP's, and I'd highly recommend giving it a read :)

A lot of stuff. I'm not expecting anyone to give a shit about my taste though.
It's more the way that "concept art" is perpetually stuck in this stagnant ghetto of cyberpunk, yakuza tattoos, shaved heads, and combat armor that I find baffling. I don't like any art that is too much of one thing, too much of what I've seen already. Same goes for anime, cartoons, illustration, etc.

Kinda neutral on it I guess. Here's something more "painterly" I saved recently. But again, that's just my faggot taste. I just hate when art is relentlessly dull. Be a little weirder and personal.
>>
>>7904510
>It's definitely slop art

only it wasn't back then. It's like movies that came out in the 80's with some new innovative and kids would watch it now thinking it's boring and generic while it pioneered the tropes it portrayed.

Art station and the desire for an industry job did create a bunch of soulless drones making generic art, I'm surprised people aren't fed up with the oversaturation of generic anime girls with fat tits. There are some great artists out there who only draw this generic shit.
>>
>>7904269
Calm down Dave. You're not that important, get over it.
>>
>>7904515

Crimsondaggers still exists but it's not the same as ca.org from back in the day. It misses the spirit and community that the internet once had.
>>
>>7904548

You have shit taste. Your opinions are therefore discarded.

Okay I'll bite philosophically speaking designing things that don't exist is the only thing m artists have on their side that makes them not seem completely worthless to the rest of the society
Paint a malformed portrait where the face proportions are intentionally fucked to represent some mental illness? You're a useless nigger and you should've been euthanized
Paint a semi realistic looking robot made with the fictional intention of gathering space rocks or smth? Ok you're still a useless nigger but now you're atleast tickling the fancy of medium to high IQ people with some money and if you're a man, making money is not an option
And thats basically it, being an ARTIST is objectively the most faggot, least manly thing you could be doing, that doesnt change the fact that with the advent of the internet and modern media there was raised a tremendous cohort of young guys with plenty of creative inclinations, and "concept art" as it exists right now or has existed in its golden age is basically the only middle ground a real creative man could occupy
You design things in volume, you give them character through your life's energy, you imbue them with logical purpose, you embelish them with your aesthetic sensibilities, you do all of those things, and with either of these gone suddenly the profession becomes completely meaningless, it is truly a wonderful interweaving of everything that makes the creation process worth going through, most of all, it's challenging and without this, men would be as eager to commit their whole lives to it

eskbl/iniro kinda vanished
always hated that she deleted all her old art and the wix
>>
In the mid 2000s I was completely smitten with klar's art. Then one day around 2015 she nuked her deviantart gallery. She still has a rarely updated tumblr and I am still so sad that she stopped doing art completely. Pic is an entry on her tumblr, must have something to do with it, i guess.

Does anyone know what happened to trees/cassetterecorder? Did he die? Make an alt and not tell anyone? Last I remember he was getting overwhelmed with finished his commissions, make a journal about it on his FA, then vanished.
