Everyone else:
>it's le flow and energy and soul of the figure, feel the form and the balance like a rythm feel the twist and the action or however the schizo theory goes
Nicolaides, first guy who coined the term (in a book not even written by him):
>just do scribbles until you get the action, then draw the real figure upon it
That's it, just a fucking sketching exercise.

And everyone is surprised their gestures improve when they learn anatomy. Thank you captain obvious, if you know what you're drawing the sketching of that thing improves too. Fuck myself for obsessing over this shit and fuck all of the fags out there for treating it like a fundamental on its own.

I just can't visualize anything after putting down the line(s). I need reference every time.

I love monstergirl ass
follow the thiccness of the body, that's what gesture is about

there's a reason all the gesture nerds are teachers
there's also a reason nicolaides is known solely for painting tanks
no, not paintings of tanks

I mean i don't shit on the method because it helps loosen up and is readable only for the artist to understand how to convey better an ideal pose, but i hate how formalized it is by modern standards. About nicolaides we know very little of his teachings, but it looks the students have it alright in the books.

yeah you definitely need to study anatomy
desu i don’t get why anatomy isn’t pressed more. it’s way better if you form some understanding of the muscles as early as possible, insertions, exit points, etc. it will make drawing so much easier

another beg filtered by gesture lol
