I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask for this.

But I would like suggestions here from animators, I'm familier with clip studio paint + TVPaint + opentoonz, and I would like to create a new animation software studio focusing on frame-by-frame animation with a full-on pipeline (storyboarding => animatic => frame-by-frame animation => painting => compositing shots with effects => video editing)

both compositing and video is just something I'm not planning for now, but maybe one day we could add it.

my basic plan is to take everything good from these softwares, and just mush them togather, the focus here is "perforamnce is #1", and also remove any unecessary bloat (like rigging and stuff like that)

would anons here migrate to this software? or do you think this is something not needed and you would just keep using your current software?

what made me look into this is that I looked at the clipstudio paint team, the animation capibilities of the software is almost impossible to improve unless they develop something from the ground up. (funding is not a big issue for me)

I only care if there's layers and vector tools and fancy brushes
I like moho for it's brushes but it's also a pain to use because frame by frame has no layers, just a single timeline. Wick is good for layers and my preferred vector tool but it doesn't have any features beyond that and is buggy

I'd Suggest adding the scrubby zoom and canvas rotation tools from photoshop
i fuckin despise having to tap away close up 5% at a time with a key bind
being able to manually adjust the zoom by draging my stylus across the screen gives me so much more control on the zoom without breaking eyecontact with my drawing to fiddle with the zoom percentage menu
same with the rotation tool sometimes i just wanna get a stroke right by spinning the canvas rather than fiddle away with the rotation menu
another is could you add somethiung lik the free floating customizable window thing tvpaint does
i like being able to just up and move the tool/color/properties tab around as i please

Any way to practice keeping the lines clean? I know the principles and I can give weight to animation, my drawings are decent but no matter how hard I work on the inbetweens it looks wobbly in the end.

like how the first time he pilots the eva is of his own volition after seeing injured rei instead of the eva deus-ex-machina'ing and protecting him from debris like in the original
all inall he's far more assertive actually cooks for his extended family and gets along with rei over it

dang, i was actually shocked at how good they were, i didn’t even know how to respond. i just kind of sat there in a ‘so this is what animation can really do’ daze. i never knew you could take it past cartoony to solid semi-realism with minimal lineart/frame count and still retain perfect complex movement loops. i was floored enough i was like..ok got to respond to this as it deserves, i have to work right now though.. and when i got back the thread had moved on. but yeah. i can’t even explain, they’re stellar, dude. i wish they got the traction they deserve.

About the Evangelion, I agree with you on everything. Shinji is shit and totally ruins the series for me. And no matter how many times they redo the thing, time after time, they can't fix it. The whole thing gets even more stupid sometimes. Shinji should be a dark motherfucker with a real hate for his father, he killed his mother, Shinji should go to Neo-Tokio with the idea to kill his father. It's the end of the fucking world, there's a lot of shit that should be portrayed in a totally different tone. Toji, should be one the key characters, he should be like a Young Ryoji, a conspiracy cool dude who wants to uncover Nerv and destroy it, even though he's part of that elite, he's just waiting for a chance to get on an EVA and fuck everything up, he doesn't need to get "possessed". I don't think we will ever get to see a proper version of the story. The original show was quite an accomplishment, I understand why it was made like that, and I appreciate how magical it was. But, no, in the eyes of an adult it is a very silly and lacking product, script wise.

yeah i was really hoping for the trio of shinji, toji and aida to be more involved especially with aida's military larper interest and military dad
it really felt like a missed oportunity for another parallel plot thread to misato's investigation into NERV that just never materialized
i mean the setup was there hell they even accompany shinji and misato when they go pickup asuka and her eva in the original series
but the studio was already walking a tightrope during production so can't exactly fault th eoriginal series
the rebuild movies tho have no such excuse i hate that mari was shoehorned in and asuka was so deliberately side-lined and say that as an ardent rei-fag
it just felt wrong like it was bittersweet for bittersweets sake

Yeah actually, do you remember "Doxy"? It wasn't the first time that I saw that type of torso+hip+thighs ratio/combo, but Doxy was so stylish that his figures stuck in my mind I remember, and I always tried to add that shape to my figures. Today that "shape" (much more exaggerated) is very mush spread around, specially in all of those "AI loras" the "bimbo" body, I like it a lot honestly.

In my EVA version, Asuka is the real adult in the group (not a try hard cringe diva like in the series) and she has a platonic obsession with Rei, lol, she finds Rei extremely attractive because of her stoic behavior and silent discipline. Shinji is too obsessed on his personal vendetta against his father, he's not a cry baby but a silent schizo, etc. Everyone can be super cool in Eva instead of being a tropey cringefest.

well yeah i'm still mapping out the story
but all in all it's to be a scifi setting akin to the world of space dandy
The protagonist was meant to be fully suited and masked design wise
the rough story was a slice of life from a space station crew's pov in a post-galactic war universe
all in all the entire galaxy is spent and exhausted and reeling from post-war rebuilding
the protagonist is essential a pre-war munitions specialist
going around the universe diffusing/deactivating and breaking down weapons from the great war

the added catch is that the guy is from a mass-produced clone series designed for offworld mining communes
that got requisitioned in the later years of the war and earned a collective field promotion over the effort of him and his shared memory core imprinted on each iteration

So these missions would be the framing devise for the episodes
with each iteration becoming his own man as he works on diffusing the different scifi doomsday device
who over the course off the story gains his own individual identity
and symbolically breaks away from the collective memory base
that way i get to have my self insert get a technical harem but not compromise my morals by having dedicated copy of the self for each romantic interest

Seeing as this is an art board however, I guess I could (somewhat) de-mystify how I animated the thing.

I used 3 frames that loop on 24fps, strong wind means long streaking movements that I exaggerated; there’s a video called |LUNE: “Beaches & Breezes”| which used the same technique but with a shredding effect for the clothing, you’ll see it better when viewed frame by frame but my methods might not work with more realistic art though.

Enjoy blowing your characters away.
