How do you use plumb lines to measure correctly?
>>7920299If you're not retarded you can figure it out
>>7920299Even your image shows you a fairly reasonable representation. You find to landmarks and use the space between them as a unit of measurement - it's much like using the head as a unit of measurement in figure drawing. Just make sure the landmarks you use are something your easily able to consistently get back to with changing, else you'll end up with a distorted inaccurate drawing. If you're not doing a 1:1 drawing, in terms of size, then things are a little more difficult, as your initial unit of measurement will just be made up, and the rest will be estimated based on that first measurement (or you will only use that unit). So, for example, if I decided to use the corner of the wood black to the corner of the cup as my first unit of measurement, I'd just draw whatever length on my smaller (or larger) drawing, but if the entire scene was three of those units across, then my drawing would be 3 of my made up unit across. If I decided to make another unit of measurement, like the top of the pumpkin to the bottom of the cup, and it was 2.5 of the wood block measurement, then I make the new drawing measurement 2.5 times my made up unit of measurement, etc.if you ARE doing 1:1, it's a lot easier, with you literally just putting your measuring stick against the paper after the measurement (ensure your arm is outstretched to the same length as when you made the measurement). There are also tools for this as well, that can even make your measurements bigger or smaller for your drawing.
>>7920299Eyeballing triangulations is the superior system.
>>7920381QRD? Please spoon-feed me this knowledge anon-sama...
>>7920299maybe actually try out the techniques before trying to find holes in them>but i don't want to waste my time!you're posting on /ic/
>>7920557find triangles (with your eyeballs)
thread is full of fortnite generation retards so i must step inplumb lines are used to find where different parts of a subject align on a vertical or horizontal axis, e.g. the chin lines up with the crotch and the back heel of the left foot. now you know where these parts are and how they relate and they also serve as reference points for subsequent measurementsto train your observation, you should make judgments by eye first then check with a plumb line

>>7920299Just draw you fucking retard.
>>7920557You put triangles on your eyeballs.
>>7921023I did and it looks off. I might be too featured to understand this
i throw these little retarded lines when i draw the second object, using the first drawing as size reference, then i gradually polish it until it looks right enough to start renderingi hate drawing still life, tho boring as fuck
Yeah i think im gonna quit drawingIm too retarded to understand this. Maybe its depression messing with me
>>7921728This is just one of the many methods of measuring you can try to learn, lil bro. It's not the end of the world, you'll deal with this dilemma eventually.
Plumb lines are for getting the correct angles. You need a reference and to stay at a constant distance to measure. For example compare the height of the cup to the size of your pencil, when you take the measurement. Two different things. Measuring will only give you the correct height, not angle. and vice versa
>>7925364anon i really think you need to crack open a dictionary and look up the definition of plumb line. Everything you said is wrong. You take an angle by using a straight instrument like a skewer or knitting needle and holding it parallel to the angle you want to draw and then draw it, and take it with the skewer. A plumb line is something else entirely.
>>7925369You are a retard. A plumb line is, by definition, perfectly vertical. Therefore, at a 90 degrees angle to the ground. This is your reference angle, to compare with every other angle. I don't suppose you do construction but that is how you determine that the angles in real life are what you put on paper before. The skewer or whatever your reference is, is used, again, at a constant distance from your subject, because in this condition you will always perceive it at the same size compared to the subject itself. That is a measurement. But I don't need to convince you. This is a fact and if any anon will just try out what I say, they will see I am correct
>>7925412forgot this picthat's a plumb line and it's not inside the drawing

This thread is infuriating. Its a straight line retard! You look at how things line up. The fact that your brains dont immediately grasp this and you have to actually ask and argue over it is CRAZY. You all must be some form of modern brown skin zoomer/younger gen. To think these are the same humans who build cathedrals and engineer rockets blows my mind. How the fuck do you end up so retarded
>draw a vertical line down the middle of your page>put some small horizontal lines on the line, maybe 7 (evenly spaced)>mark a line about an inch down the end of your pencil>hold your pencil with your arm fully extended>use the end mark as a rulerif you want peak accuracy you can also use same method with additional vertical lines
>>7920299not perfect, but I don't want to spend more time on this

>>7920299>gravity is a constant, therefore hanging a heavy weight on a string will always make straight line that casts down>i can mark measurements of the string >i can then hang the string from the top of my canvas to transer said measurementsit's really not that complicated
