How do I get dopamine from drawing the way I get it from playing video games and watching youtube? Whenever I think "I should be drawing right now", I always find something else to do. I think my problem is I dont find it as exciting as other stuff I do in my free time. It's not like I don't have shit I want to draw, I have easily a hundred of images I've saved for doing studies/practice, but when the time actually comes, I always just put it off. Also, whenever I actually do draw, I usually want to do something else after maybe like 15-30 mins, but I always see people who draw for like several hours straight because they enjoy it so much. How do I become like that? Should I just force myself to draw something? This shit is so frustrating becuadr I'm in this loop of "Hey I should draw -> oh it's time to draw -> *procrastinates*" for god knows how long. Ive recently been thinking that I might have ADHD so thats also a factor.
dumb nigger
Do you have any podcasts you like? Look for a good podcast and listen to it only when you draw. It's funner if you can make happy little pavlov associations. Like how I walk to a cafe and read because evercise and reading is funner if I can have a yummy drink to look forward to.Feel pride in yourself, not for anything you made but for finding the self discipline to commit to self improvement.
Howie thread.
>>7925725you can't, drawing is not a natural activity. You have to be messed up in the head to have fun drawing. The way to draw longer is to draw things that take longer to complete, so the fun lasts more. If you finish a drawing, your brain sees it as finishing a shift and wants to stop. Only the insane prodigies like finishing a drawing and starting a new one over and over for hours.
>>7925725>just pay money for goyslop every time you want to do something productive
>>7925752Hey whatever works. If you can't afford a muffin or fancy coffee once a day you have bigger problems than not knowing how to draw.
1. You're spending too much practicing to enjoy your hobby instead of just enjoying it. Undertake a project that actually inspires you and pursue that. 2. You find the experience of drawing unfulfilling because you are overstimulated by technology. Compartmentalize the time you spend on your computer and gaming or alternatively cut them out altogether. You may also have ADHD, but before crossing that bridge you should try to manage your life in ways that are immediately accessible to you.
Try pavlovmaxxing. Take some form of pleasure like music and snacks, and only indulge in it while drawing.
>>7925716Reduce your time with videogames/youtube/social media. Cut off ENTIRELY all short form content.Set up a schedule, use alarms if needed. I know at 3PM I'll start drawing, so when the clock hits 3, I just do it, I don't think about it, I don't give my brain time to procrastinate, come up with something else, or tell me "just one more game", no fucker, treat it like it's a classroom, or a social meeting, you are meeting your drawing tools at 3, and don't wanna be a faggot who's late.Another thing you can try, so you don't go something else, is weight drawing against something else. Would you rather draw, or do the dishes that have been piling in the sink for 3 days? You are most likely gonna choose drawing out of those 2, and if not, at least you did something productive either way.If you sit down to draw and are constantly distracted (phone shouldn't even be in the room btw), or have trouble focusing, then sit while facing a blank wall, as close as possible, and stare at it. Don't do anything else, don't tap your knees or whatever, sit there completely still staring at the empty wall. Hold for 5 mins if you can. By then you'll be so fucking bored and your dopamine so low that picking up a pencil will be the most exciting thing in your life.
>>7926082true pavlov maxxing is punching yourself in the dick whenever you notice you're not drawing
>>7925716You need discipline and to formulate a routine of drawing. If you draw for one hour every morning everyday for a month, your brain adjusts to the routine and it forms a habit that suddenly becomes easier to do. Then slowly add more hours to adjust to the routine. If you're afraid of burnout add something that makes drawing more enjoyable, like listening to music. Music doesn't sap gains or prevent you from studying, at most it's an minor distraction that well worth working through if it helps you to draw.
>>7926082My first thought was that this seems like a good way to get fat, but then I realized for most people here there's no danger of that
>>7926313>Music doesn't sap gains or prevent you from studying, at most it's an minor distraction that well worth working through if it helps you to draw.I think music is great after a while. At first, it proves distracting, but I got to a point where my drawing playlist got so familiar, I no longer catch myself humming them or anything, my brain just understands "these songs mean focus" and I lose track of time. Couldn't even tell you which songs came up by the time I stop drawing.
>>7926316Music and how it affects our brains is weird and not entirely understood. You'll have some people religiously claim that it's a distraction while some other savant literally cannot draw without it.
>>7926317Oh most people can draw with music on but I believe if you ran some focused tests with music on versus music off, all of you would find out the quality of your work suffers.
>>7926318By a very small measure. The largest progress of learning how to draw is to literally draw. If music encourages you to do so it's well worth it.It also depends on the kind of music you listen too, non lyrical songs usually end up being a form of white noise, which is less distracting.
>>7926321>By a very small measure.So you didn't test it.
>>7926318maybe, but I know a employed pro artist who always draws with the Delfino Square soundtrack from Mario Kart on loop
>>7926322What are you even arguing about? If you want a source go look at the hundreds of artist streams drawing while playing music.
You can't. If you don't find any fun in it naturally, then you probably never will. You'll have to raw dog it like I do.
>>7925725>Do you have any podcasts you like?Ngmi
cut off all others. cold turkey is the only way
Have a really big project that you want to finish. Then work on smaller side projects instead. Have even smaller side projects for when the regular side projects are too much work. The mistake a lot of artists make is jumping straight into working on some Magnum Opus that they will only give up on after a few days.Draw a comic and start with the cover page or just one panel. You will never finish it but it will motivate you to draw.
>>7926318its either music or noisy neighbours/city noise. earplugs dont get rid of vibrations, just muffles them
>>7925716you probably just can't, you are lucky you have video games and youtube. Other people only get dopamine from marijuana, crack, or meth. whatever lmao/permaconsumer/ bros unite
things mostly suck when you are still bad at them. keep trying.
>drop the video games and animeI stopped all video games and anime years ago because they stopped being good.
>>7926768this, I use music to get started and then when the song ends I focus in silence.
>>7926795I'm going to try that tomorrow. Sounds like good advice.
>>7926822I was being ironic.
>>7926776i mean, thats a given, but there a slew of games you never have seen or played before that came out prior to mass appeal and online only slop. i recently discovered sly cooper for myself, only having it in the back of my mind as one of the three sony platformers and man, is it ever full of sovl. and a good little treat after having done some drawings, especially since its level/hub based so you dont have to invest too much time. just a quick play and be done. i digress. you shouldnt stop discovering things, but at the least tone it down a lot compared to you putting out.
>>7926823Too late now.
>>7926776you might be neurotypical, anon. ive been playing crusader kings for 14 years now and it never gets old. also i might be retarded picrel is my ck2 hours
