Almost every time you want to start from the most basic shapes. You want to capture the general outline/shape of the thing you're drawing. Combine it with measurements (for example, bottom part of the bottle's length being able to fit 2 top part lengths) and only after that add details that are inside the shape
Look at >>7926323 post (even if you don't want to draw anime or characters necessarily, The Prerequisites part is a good general idea on what to learn/grasp before getting into anything)

Have a problem with overconstructing during the gesture/layout/blocking part of drawing. my gestures lack confidence so i normally redo them more than once, then i do the basic shapes, but my grasp of realistic anatomy is kinda low, and then after i fill in some details i do the actual Rough Sketch.

Is this just a lack of confidence issue? I just came off a period where I couldn't draw as much due to repetitive strain injury...had nothing to do with drawing though it was something else.

Have you ever wondered why the worst yet most popular genre of anime (isekai) has same looking characters?
They're intentionally bland. Bland design, same looking hair, face, eyes. It's all about the appeal to the main audience (fucking losers) so that they can relate to the character (blank slate, insert here what you want, also fucking boring like them) and feel a little of that power trip and of course cute anime girls falling for them for absolutely 0 reason
This shit sells too. People are retarded.
>>
>>7926465
I don't mind fat or mid looking women in my media. If anything in fantasy or any action related world the people are rugged and bland. Beauty is privilege for rich and powerful not a swords man.

It’s way harder to read, and having both the background and the skin as pure white makes it difficult to see things objectively, it also makes everything look less vivid.

Try again, but use a darker value for the background. Also, count your line art as part of the value composition. For example, in your piece the armor is really hard to read, and since both the cloth and the metal have similar values, it all blends together and looks like a blob. Check how armor is handled in animation, they usually add decoratives borders because it makes forms easier to read and understand, e.g., skeleton knights or Record of Lodoss War.

Another thing about value, always focus more on readability than realism. If adding a white border to an otherwise dark pocket helps make the figure more readable, go for it.

Cute work.

>>7926839
Like in any kind of training, work without a goal is wasted effort. The goal itself will give you a hint of how to evaluate what you’ve learned.

>>7926860
Study great art, art analyses of the masters are relatively easy to find.
>I'm trying to figure out how to polish things from this step onwards to really make them pop.
For composition, add a simple background; it helps the viewer form a story.

Look at the reference in the center, there are basically only three values. All the armor and clothing are the same gray, but not so dark that the lineart gets lost. Also notice how the lightest value in the armor is used more to indicate form and separate shapes rather than to show the light source.

Also keep in mind that you can never divorce hue from value. What I mean is that what works in color may not always work in grayscale. The perceptual value associated with hue is really important. For example, you can read her cape in color, but when you see it in grayscale or when squinting, it becomes really hard to read.

Every time I take a pic of my drawings, even if it looks good to me, my cam makes it look ugly. Now I fear to draw anything because no matter how good I think my drawing is, my cam is waiting there to show the reality.

Someone said that means that I see mistakes in my drawings, that mean I am about to improve or something, but I see that as a way to get burned out or make me not want to draw at all.

If I don't take pic of my drawings, then I will keep drawing for fun, but deep down I know it looks like shit ugly. Also, I fear I will never improve if I don't see that my drawings are ugly as fuck.

Any advice?

this is all eye, and references. I'm doing the traditional mental version of photo bashing - try it, find some pictures you like and try to mesh them together in your head. i use statues. thank you but it's really just quantity carrying here - you can very easily do the exact same thing.
find like 5 pictures you like and take components from each and blend them together. i don't do this, but it may be convenient to make a collage to figure out a rough idea, kinda like primitive photo bashing.
you can also scroll sketchfab for 3d models to mentally "photo bash" if you're struggling with ideas.

I'm pretty sure I have clinical depression.

Being a two-balls-haver, however, I will indeed NOT seek help for my psychological impairment. Plus, I know I won't ever kill myself because that's extremely homosexual behavior and I'd rather die from an anhedonia-induced heart attack than put a bullet in my brain. That being said, I think I know why I started drawing again in the first place.

I feel nothing.

Booted up a video game: nothing.
Started a new novel: nothing.
Sex with a hooker: nothing.
Social interactions: nothing.

So I escaped to gooning. My life consisted of collecting FunScripts for a new auto-masturbator I had purchased. It's pretty neat. I get jacked off to the beat or it strokes me in tandem with the movement on screen. I got to finally feel what it's like to fuck Windowmaker--or get fucked by her. But eventually even that became dull. I go back to feeling nothing again.

Drawing is different.

Drawing makes me feel. Even if it's anger or frustration or dread most of the time, I finally feel something. I can finally wake up everyday and have SOMETHING to look forward to, even if that something is just pain. It's like an abusive relationship and maybe I DESERVED to get beaten for being a filthy whore who can't cook or clean or suck cock. All I could do was draw. Even my ability in that is debatable.

I thought that if I stopped drawing I could escape this. But like Two in "The Blood that Bonds" I need my fix, my fix of pain. Except in my story, there is no Theroen. No Knight in Shining armor if even such a thing exists for a pathetic male fledging.

Thus, I will be getting back into drawing again.

My primary focus this time will be in observational drawing. Mainly by using Grid Drawing and it's sister method, Cross Drawing, to learn how to measure proportions intuitively. Just like straight line exercises, these can't be grinded, unfortunately.

I won't update /ic/ much, just drop in here and there. So don't expect much.

>My work screams like a Westernfag trying to draw anime
As someone who likes both western and anime stuff I don't think that's a bad thing. I think your art looks nice and you should play to your strengths instead of trying to be something you're not. If you REAAAAAALLLY wanna go full anime mode then do studies on an anime style of your choice and pay real close attention to the choices they make when drawing head shapes, noses and eyes but like I said earlier i'd rather you stick to what you've got

begs often change their process, approach as well as subject drawn so the end product can look vastly different than their previous drawings. This makes it considerably harder getting an overview of an anons drawing capabilities and progress. Critiques and advice given will be superficial simply due to lack of context. Yes some anons have certain quirks in their drawings that makes them recognizable but that can also be a hindrance when you are unable to explore a completely different direction to your usual type of drawings.

its an improvement but the eyes are both drawn differently so it still looks off, look at each eye and see how much of the sclera (white part) is showing as well as the general shape of them to see what I mean. If you feel as if its too much work to redraw and paint the eyes now just keep it in mind for the next drawing you do. Try and make sure all of those glaring errors are taken care of within the earlier sketching stages

Just don't beat yourself over bad drawings, it's part of the learning process. You're not going to make masterpieces by just imagining them
You'll never bench press 100 kgs if you never trained or worked physically before, same premise.

it seems like every part of the face you've drawn, is smaller than the reference
the eyes are small, just like the nostrils and the mouth pretty much
otherwise not bad
>>
>>7927667
Thanks! You're definitely right. I feel like I'm at a point where I can sorta draw a head or I can sorta draw a figure. But putting them together isn't quite clicking
>>
>>7927672
yeah, it's very understandable since the face can be the toughest as we're naturally drawn to focusing on the face

no wonder this fucking general is dead in the water most of the time with people not interacting whatsoever

lol yeah I did mail it in on the face. I was more focused on the pose, and even after multiple attempts to adjust the head and features it was no good. at the end I was like "damn she looks white"
I don't post my portraits here, they're too fucked up at the moment

Mod is a woman or a retard on HRT. Either way if you don't feel bad you won't get better.

Don't turn this into your personal hugbox, that's how you kill communities, then again women ALWAYS kill communities, can't really help themselves.

I cannot draw feet, probably doesn't help that I left them for last. Are their any good resources for them?

Also, looking back at the screenshot, I feel like the face I did is more creepy instead of cute. Is that because I over rendered the face?
>>

Favelachad could draw feet while blind. Just need more talent.
>>
>>7927751
>I cannot draw feet
Stop shitting the /beg/ thread and go collect references of feet and draw them over and over again until you're good at drawing them retarded.

>I did is more creepy instead of cute
no retard in this thread bo can help with that. You already know it is creepy, you don't. More people figure out how to make the face better.

This is 1 and a half month in learning how to draw.

My learning resource is mostly Glenn Vilppu's how to draw manual and video.

I find myself being able to go along with his instructions but have trouble when I look at a reference draw it myself.
>>
>>7927935
Is a picture X something you want to draw?
If Yes, then yes, its good
If No, then no, its not
