How do i paint like this?
>>7930532Use colored pencils
>>7930532Go back to 1994 and stay there.
>>7930545Man I wish I could
why did Japan move away from this artstyle?
>howie threadYou see it, do it. It's lines and colors on paper. There is no formula or code underneath the lines.
>>7930554Not as easy to get away with tracing movie posters anymore?
>>7930593You're kidding right? Today you can literally plagiarize art styles, composition, EVERYTHING and spin it in any way you want. And the industry it's already shaping itself to that effect:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLcg6zlzY8o
>>7930598Sure but I don't think any of it is quite as blatant as literally just slapping arnold from the predator poster on your game's cover.
>>7930554all shitty new capcom games look like this.
>>7930605I shoulda used this as a better example.
>>7930554Looks too video gamey imo
>>7930532Looks like markers to me. You could get a somewhat similar effect with water colours, since it's also a light to dark medium. Also, you can see your line work through the watercolours, so it'd help keep that spontaneous sketchy quality.
>>7930532>how do I do thos thingyou do thos thingMax saturation on shadows, desaturated pastel highlights, and saturated complimentary hues on midtones. If the highlight of a material is saturated, desaturate the shadows insteadAlso keep a limited colour palette since this style uses markers. Didn't do it in example but working with a textured opacity brush on a white canvas would be the go, assuming you're looking to mimic the look digitally
>>7934178let me guess, it looks like shit le ironically
>>7934194let's see paul allen's study
>>7934295paul allen wasn't acting like he has it figured out while posting peak dk /bef/ fodder
>>7934303hehehe hoo hoo I'm gonna do more studies to spite you, stay tuned
>>7934335I'm literally shaking rn
>>7930554these covers were made for the western audience
>>7934379cope
>>7930532By trying, you lazy, ignorant piece of shit
>>7930532Thats just prisma/copic markers plus colored pencils. There's lots of tutorials online and a bunch of people that still make lots of art using markers/pencils.
>>7934350All points still stand
big yikes
This styles mad fun
>>7934194Nodraw
>>7934527>>7934595actually gj dudeI still feel like the way the brush is mixing isn't really matching the markers(? I guess?) they colored with in the OP>>7930532Kinu Nishimura... My beloved. She's so fucking good.
>>7930554you would know if you've seen a few movies at least. i mean, they did that (stealing) a lot, how many conan the barbarian covers do you think they ripped off for fantasy games? there was great thread on /vr/ about it once.
>>7930532Fun study.
>>7934920I'm sure they've had that same thread multiple times, but there's a website that documents this fairly extensively: https://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tracing/tracing.htmIt's hilarious what they got away with.
>>7934993the metal gear one is obviously one of the most famous examples. good website, thanks for sharing
>>7934916Bless, still got a long way to go w/ digital rendering. Really considering just going back to trad>>7934971Now this is nice layering, hair texture's insane. Is the wet look part of the brush or is it a blender put on over it?
>>7935457I just used a random assortment of watercolor brushes that I had downloaded. Some of them have wet effects.
