whats with any thread for /beg/s always being infiltrated by people who are clearly way above that.
>>
>>7932087
I fucking hate them.
>>
>>7932087
I already gave a whole explanation right here: >>7932055

It's basically the same idea as "smurfing" in video games. Whatever the reason is for smurfs to exist is the same reason for why non/beg/ artists post in /beg/ threads.
>>
>>7932064
Thanks for that, I didn't know that ref would be considered hard, I obviously struggled with it though. I did however find it fun, I actually really did enjoy drawing that as I find it nice when I get some proportion correct (any proportion).
>i would say if you want to improve, you should try drawing shit that's easier
I watched that video from 10:30 to 24:30 and I do understand what he and you mean(s) by this, but I specifically would like to learn to draw people as of now. I am unsure as to whether that's a bad idea or not but I am currently at least only really interested in learning to draw humans and faces. Once again thanks for the help :3

>>
i wouldn't mind /int/ artists if they weren't condescending and pretentious as all fuck anytime you even slightly disagree or don't take their advice or literally anything that isn't in their direct say so.
>>
>>7932117
You must be new here.
/int/ artists don't give advice to /beg/ artists.
Not that they could even if they tried. /beg/ is too fundamental for /int/ to understand. It's like native English speakers trying to teach ESLs what a predicate is when they barely remember what it does.

Never acquiesce to a nigger's demand to pyw in response to you taking the time to offer honest critique. Those people are malicious and try to shut down conversation.
>>
>>7932159
Depends on the purpose of the drawing, if its just a random cube its no harm to guess how it would look if you think you know that, otherwise, it is easy to set up a quick horizon line and, for a cube, 2 vanishing points, and then just draw your cube based on that. Look any basic perspective guide up to see how to do that if you're not sure. Cylinders are easy to overlay onto cubes, so that's one way to go about drawing them, otherwise you can also just guess if you think you know how it should look. For rotated cubes and cylinders look up a separate guide. At some point you should be able to draw cubes and cylinders without any perspective grids/lines. This is practically the premise of drawabox.com.
>>
>>7932160
Is this off a reference? If so I'd like to see what it's supposed to look like, as it feels like it's off balance. Could just be the slight rotation of the whole image though.

the thread seems to be unnaturally active at this time for some reason.
Alright, here's a part of a bigger "comic" i am doing by improvising. I think i am learning how to do more ways of creating this by improvising. I also think i am learning how to "draw" slightly better and faster in this way. And i am still learning very slightly about limbs and perspective.

More context: due to criticism in the past, i tried to remove almost all text (not redo old drawings, just to apply the rule for new drawings) and show things happen with drawings, without skipping.
>>
>>7932165
Ok cool, I have nothing to add then as I don't think my criticisms would be valid (im definitley a beg), other than perhaps the pose looks a little off.

people here are extremely gullible, arrogant, impatient and incurious

They are gullible as they are drones of some yt "art teacher" faggot who can't draw
They are arrogant as they are convinced they don't have to do extremely specific and particular work to improve, they are so self centered they believe they can simply do brainless repetitions of nothing to improve, on how they got this idea see above
They are impatient and incurious as they throw out any research out of the window, try to tell them to actually learn anything about the subject matter and they get angry as say you're trying to "crab them", their gullibility also makes them convinced better artists don't do this just because they told them they don't.
You don't get trapped in beg for no reason, people here have serious character flaws

Cool work, dude. The only thing I’d suggest is to think of perspective as part of the composition, meaning you can break what’s “correct” in service of the overall image.

As for sources:
The perspective lectures here are great, they focus on composition:

A great lecture on composition, with a fun exercise on making a plate of food look appetizing:

Gunna finish these when I get home.
The more I draw the more I realize it's all just repetition. Not really mindless repetition but not really super analytical repetition either.
Somewhere in between.
Somewhere in between "maybe I should focus on this particular weakness" and "onto the next one" without giving it much thought.
Maybe talent is knowing intuitively where that line is drawn.

This is true.
Note how anytime someone actually posts their work and it's not /beg/ tier, the conversation immediately dies, but if the person never posts their work the conversation just gets derailed into assuming the other person is /beg/. In either case, no one focuses on the actual advice given at face value, only on the now derailed topic of the person's work.

I'm tired of being dogshit. I think that if I really go hard for a full year then I can get to a place that I'm more comfortable with. Imma screenshot this.
It's hard to specify a concrete goal beyond "solidly /int/". I want to be able to comfortably and consistently produce work that I'm not embarrassed by, for a variety of poses/expressions/etc, and feel like I have a solid base to build on, instead of just fumbling around in the "learning to draw" phase forever.
Right now I'm still struggling with all the classic problems of drawing slow as fuck, falling apart as soon as I do anything complex without an exact reference, etc.

very pleasant way of stylising faces anon. the "too exaggerated" pose is pretty goodbut you're right it doesn't fit; the "head too front" isn't actually correct, it's that the head is too big (probably from stylisation) and her left shoulder too slumped so the angles look fucked. middle row left pieces are also a bit out of proportion because you put the breasts too high (they sit pretty low on her ribcage), and that dragged the bellybutton up as well, which kind of botched the torso proportions. otherwise great studies really

Maybe a silly question but does anyone have any insights on the inability to redline your own work? If I start a drawing with construction and contours it's probably going to turn out alright, but if I try to get something down quickly in a burst of inspiration or go back to some old work, I suddenly can't redline it. It's like the pattern seeking in my brain is overwhelmed by the amount of mistakes (wrong angle here, weird perspective there, misshapen ellipse or something) and if I take too long it'll lose the mental image of what it's supposed to look like when it's right. Same thing happens if I go too long without filling my recent visual memory with good art. I think sloppy twitter art actually poisons my brain in some way.

Please help.

I find it quite hard to believe.
I don't believe in the "permabeg" concept. At least not in the way it's described here.
If someone drew consistently and with purpose for a few years, there's no way they are still beginners.

>>7932482
Yes.

>>7932392
I always find it weird that artists who post timelapses rarely start from zero. They always have something on the canvas already. Why not include the whole process? Not trying to imply anything but that always felt suspicious to me.

>>7932364
Ah, personally I don't think this is true. I think this is a cope used by experienced artists to stave off chinks in their armor of ego. It's okay to admit you don't know how to critique a /beg/'s artwork. It's not a blow to the ego. I don't get insecure when an ESL asks me what a predicate is when I don't know. I'm still better than the ESL at English even without knowing the intricacies of the English language. But I would still have to admit that I didn't know. /int/s don't like admitting that there are things they don't know when it comes to drawing, that's why they make ridiculous coping mechanisms for why they won't critique most artwork. Just admit that you genuinely don't know. It's not a big deal.

I will add to this though that what makes beginner artwork hard to critique isn't the artwork itself but the lack of context. It's not that /int/ work is easier to critique, it's that /int/ work has actual context in which you can base your critique around. /beg/ artwork has virtually no context, and most of the time no direction, so you would need to ask a bunch of questions to the beginner before you can actually give them critique. The same isn't true for /int/ artists as the artwork itself reveals the context.

In essence, critiquing /beg/ artwork is a lot more work which is something /int/ artists don't want to spend time doing. They seem to prefer to drop their artwork here, collect praise, then leave.

>I always find it weird that artists who post timelapses rarely start from zero. They always have something on the canvas already. Why not include the whole process? Not trying to imply anything but that always felt suspicious to me.
because usually a large portion of the beginning part is just them playing around with sketches and compositions until they find one they want to pursue

I've been trying a more purely observational approach (somewhat remedially) lately. but I don't really know when to go from furious scribble feeling out to refinement, to say nothing of my digital motor skills

lower the opacity, new layer, draw out the lines on top as if you were tracing the best ones, delete mess layer. eventually work on making the correct lines the first time around (drawing in pen on paper works great for this as you can't erase)

Thanks! I’ll try lengthening the torso. As for hair tips I can only speak on anime-style hair but it helps to have a separate system for drawing the hair on the front, sides, and back of the head. Also drawing hair as “chunks” can help with simplifying complex shapes.

I'm the opposite. Summer is when I finally feel like being productive even though I barely go outside. Hoping to 3x my past gains these next few months. I might get laid off which is actually a good thing, I need a vacation anyway.

For your picture, I personally would break things down. Drawing the WHOLE figure is extremely hard but taking it piece by piece is more doable. That's why Grid Drawings are so effective. It forces you to take things slowly and incrementally, I highly recommend them. I wouldn't worry about EXACT proportions unless you're doing a Grid Drawing. Honestly just keep copying (just draw lol) and you'll start to comfortable drawing. This is just a /beg/ leading the /beg/ but when I was copying the chest area on the right, I didn't really care much about the proportions or making it super accurate. I just kinda threw down whatever felt right based on the ref. But I think that is only possible after you have copied a lot already.

I think the goal isn't even to get good at copying it's just to copy so much that you stop giving a shit after a while. Somehow not caring combined with mileage makes your art better. It doesn't make any logical sense but the more I draw the less drawing actually makes logical sense.

Still getting anxiety before starting a drawing which sucks but hopefully it'll go away in a month or so after I've been consistent. I want to stick with Anime faces for now to at least have something I can get really comfortable drawing before moving onto anything else. I think it's important to have that ONE thing you're good at drawing to fall back on when you're having bad drawing days.

Like a Sudoku puzzle.

Thank you!
To be honest I didn't really like these. Only the top-left one.
>how long have you been drawing
That's a hard question to answer.
What if i started at a specific year but didn't draw consistently every single day? Would all the years in between then and now count? Even if I skipped months? Even if I skipped a year?

If you want a number: 2019.
But again, it's highly misleading because I was never really consistent. This is actually the first time since 2019 that I've drawn every single day for more than 2 months. I've never actually done that before.

That's why it's misleading to look at artist's progress over years. You don't really know how much they've actually been drawing. They could say they drew for 10+ years when in reality you find out they haven't been consistently drawing that long. That's me.

I don't know if there IS a good metric but I'm doing my best to document every single thing I draw so that if I do exceed expectations, anyone can go through the archive of my work and see what I did to improve besides, "just draw lol."

Hope that answers your question lmao.

>>7933581
1. Don't spend so much time on a single drawing. Focus on the big shapes and get those proportions right before moving onto details. You shouldn't be spending more than 20-30 minutes on a single drawing when you're just starting out (unless you want to).
2. Don't follow "proportion rules." Those are useful when you're drawing from imagination, not when you're copying a reference. Just focus on drawing what you see to the best of your ability. Focus on lines/shapes/angles/alignments/etc. Try not to draw an "eye," try to draw the lines/shapes that make up the eye.
3. Drawing people is hard, try not to over-complicate it by drawing both faces + body. Tackle in parts. If you're practicing bodies, simplify the face; if you're drawing faces, put some low-effort lines down to indicate the body then go back to the face.

I realized that drawing is similar to writing in that it's just about correcting mistakes more than it is about drawing that perfect contour or line. Just get something on the page and fix it later. That's the best way to get around the anxiety of drawing.

What the hell are you learning from copying a skull? How does it help to draw anime heads? Sure, it does help, but it will be a waste of time if he didn't learn simplified construction first.
Like, seriously, who the hell wants to learn the geometry of a real skull just to draw anime?

drawing skulls are actually easy. I mean, front and side view. For other angles, you need to do memory drawing or learn a simplified skull.
