My index finger hurts like a motherfucker and so does the palm of my thumb but not as much. I hold both a mechanical pencil and digital stylus like this by the way. I had a problem before with the grip but I cant think of any reason why my index would hurt. Any ideas?

Get a tablet stand and draw with your elbows and shoulders more often. Keep a loose grip on your pen. I use a writing grip which is the same as my drawing grip. If you're still having pain or inflammation it's probably a good idea to go see a physical therapist.
