If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

DO NOT REPLY to crabs, nodraws, retards that whine about how hard drawing is or talent debates and instead focus on posted works!

I cropped a photo of my hometown in 3 ways to decide which one to use as a reference. Which of these 3 compositions do you think is best?

Ignore the pixelation, I do that to remove details so I can focus on the overall composition.

Oh golly gee wiz, I sure do love the hustle and bustle of Canada's desolate auto-centric city hellscapes!
How about instead of using any one of those shitty refs you get a pic of the rockies and draw something soulful?
>>

the retard thread OP should be banned from making new /beg/+/int/ threads.
I think the gu who draws gay torture porn does it now. Collagemakersare the real heroes of these threads.

the thread starts are also lazier and lazier.
First the thread challenges got worse by being thoughtless Asian women refs, then the thread challenges stopped altogether. Then some twitchy retard started making the OPs, but without the effort of the predecessors, who made a well composed, thoughtful, funny collage.
I already groan at the thought of half the thread being filled by the howie-tirades of our resident permabegschizos and those lazy scribbles by the nut case.

Maybe it's time for me to put in one last hurray of effort and to graduate /beg/.

realizing that i'm nearly 3 years in and can't do faces from any perspective from imagination, specifically the face line, i can do eyes fine but the cheek -> chin -> jaw line i always seem to mess up, what's some deliberate practice i can start doing to fix this?

i remember pre-hack it was just nonstop cliques and talentfagging, a dead thread is probably better.

even better is realizing that /beg/s can only give /beg/ tier advice and that you should maybe seek advice from actual good artists

>>7940595
Hide's face videos are all really good
https://www.youtube.com/@hidechannel2/videos

>>7940625
Do studies from reference where you break down the structure, think about why your study doesn't match the reference and what you can do to correct those mistakes for next time, do drawings from imagination, if they look wrong try to explain it by using the concepts you learned from your studies, do more studies, repeat. Same cycle you use for learning to draw anything.
>>
>>7940630
A long time ago (like around 2018-2019) there was a healthy population of non-/beg/s who would lurk the thread and give genuinely helpful advice and redlines. The average skill level on /ic/ has declined a lot since then unfortunately.

Struggling today. You guys got any advice for making things feel more three-dimensional? I'm trying a little hatching here and there but I'm struggling getting it to look good.

FUCK YOU TALENTED FUCK.
>>
>>7940634
yes, a lot of shit like loomis, draw boxes, etc is just a beg trap. you need to PAINT. you need to understand value. you need to study reference, and understand why and how things are the way they are. and the answer is value. value is literally the single most important thing in art. you can figure out perspective and construction after that. literally every art school since the invention of art schools has taught this and it blows my mind that people here still don't fucking get it and will react antagonistically toward the only good advice ever posted in this thread. you're gonna end up like this faggot if you're not careful >>7940638

>>
>>7940658
Start by copying stuff you like. Do that a lot, and try to make sense of why it looks good. After a while, I'd say pick one or two subjects to learn at a time, like construction and anatomy, or faces and gesture, stuff like that. Just keep in mind that progress is gradual and it only gets easier the longer you've been drawing for.

>You guys got any advice for making things feel more three-dimensional?
How about you pick a angle that lets you show depth.... Lol. Either you move the camera closer and show more of the body at the same time (forcing you to use fish eye lens), move the camera high or low (hz line) to make it interesting... The further back the camera is, the more flat it becomes. Also you make depth with value retard...
>>
>>7940655
> Looks pretty 3d to me.
You think so? Maybe I stared at it for too long and it lost its illusion. I wonder how artists deal with that.

> I will say though that her right hand is pretty fucked up
Yeah I am terrible at drawing hands so far so I am neglecting it. Shit's hard.
>>
>>7940706
I don't know... This has a pretty similar sort of angle and shows a lot of depth, at least to me. I think it might just boil down to the accuracy of the forms.
>>
>>7940712
They arnt even remotely the same angle... The first one was a near side profile which would not show any depth while this is a shallow angle with the subject slighting angled moving away towards us.

Tell me, how you plan on showing. Depths if you can only see the side of the body? A side that's all on one side where nearly every part is the same distance from the camera besides the head which would be the only actually thing that should be further from the camera in a side profile view. Also you keep the arms close to the body. You can move the Arma away or towards the camera to add depth but you need to be able to foreshortnen well and have good overlapping lines done correctly. You could also desaturate the body parts away from the body to show depth... Or use values..... Sigh.
>>
>>7940643
Loomis is not a meme at all. His work is the foundation of good drawing and draftsmanship skills

>>
>>7940721
So you want him to use values and shadows when he's just trying to develop his flats to a better 3D level?
>>
>>7940747
Yes you have to add shadows and values if you want to show depth otherwise.... Like they are what you said they are... FLATS.
Hatching is another form of adding values you know? And what did I say value adds? DEPTH. Why do you think hatching involves hatching with the form?
If you don't want either of that then it's line weight and better use of the character pose and camera lens (fish eye) to do more dynamic poses where the VP are closer.
>>
>>7940751
put down the bottle, value schizo
>>
>>7940751
There's also foreshortening or perspective which doesn't require fish eye
>>
>>7940759
I already said that to the anon in my first post.
>>7940756
No, kys.
>>
>>7940761
Yeah but the push on values distracts from your points. It's a valid suggestion but the artist is clearly trying to get their base levels down first

Also actually use perspective, in your drawing her head and hips are at the same angle (straight on) when they're at opposite ends of the canvas, a good mental shortcut is that perspective looks almost like rotation
