How do you take care of your eyes as an artist? When should one take breaks without disrupting the flow of drawing/painting? I'm at a point where I feel like if I don't limit my screen time to 8 hours a day, I'll destroy my eyes, so I'd like to get some advice on the topic from people who care about their eyesight
>>7941479That's just bad genetics.
>>7941496no, i injured my eye when i was younger with a sharp object.
>>7941497Anon, you're supposed to put the pencil on the paper, not your eye...
>>7941405Eat a diet with plenty of fat and protein in it. Stay hydrated. Eat plenty of fruits like berries and leafy green vegetables like kale and spinach. Make sure you're getting enough vitamin C and iron and zinc. Pumpkin seeds. Sweet potatoes. Almonds and walnuts. Hemp seeds. Fish like salmon and sardines and tuna. Eat your eggs.Do eye exercises. Ditch the smartphone for a dumbphone.
>>7941405I'm on my computer a lot, since it's basically my only source of entertainment at home, and I find just having the windows 'night light' mode on, with a really strong sepia setting, does me quite well.Honestly, I hate looking at the screen with it off - it's far too bright. That aside, whenever you get up to stretch, roll you eyes around and focus on things that are at various distances, from trees out the window, to things on your desk, to the wrinkles on your hand, and back again. All this said though, I haven't had much issues with eye strain, so it might also just be a matter of genetics.
>>7941405most important thing is to see the sun for at least two hours a day, anon

At work I look at a screen 8 hours and and lurk for 6-8 more hours or draw in my free time. In my mid 20s my eyes started to get teary and tired from this.Unironically I added traditional oil painting into my drawing/painting routine to get some hours without a glowing screen. I highly recommend this for eye relaxation but also to increase your skill. You can also do sketching on plain paper and use a scanner app to get it digital and continue to refine it on your graficks tablet.
>>7941654>see the sun for at least two hours a dayIf I stare directly at it, can I reduce that time down a bit?
what does taking care of your eyes even mean? I was given 20/400 vision via genetics so it's not like I can go much worse
I was once told something called the 20-20-20 rule to combat eyestrain: Every twenty minutes look at something at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
>>7941768You don't need to do that because if you're on /ic/, you're already blind.
>>7941693>>7941804These are both sound advice.
