>>7991923umemaro's art in manosaba is a big inspiration (pic related)my wip fanart of one of his designs >>7990367
>>7991923Are you the one making that 2hu VN that started in /jp/ and ended in that alternative chan? Is actual progress being made?
>>7991936Are you on your phone?
>>7991942No, I think its just that mentioning a certain specific image board seems to make my post not go through, for some fucking reason, how annoying.
>>7991923I like the old classic retro style from the 90s
I only accept payment in Chainlink. Thanks!
>>7991923this, it sucks loving a style that most people regard as "old and they look like bugs"the one in your post is good definitely one of my favorite touhou fanarts
>>7991947What's stopping us from making one like that? We already have better tools than 30 years ago.
>>7992026It's totally doable now. The problem is, a lot of people who are drawn to pixel art like that don't actually have the skill to do it. And the ones who do have the skill to do it are either not interested or outright prefer clean non-pixel art stuff. There are exceptions of course. If you look around online, you can find talented people making cool pixel art stuff. But a lot of it is still not as good as those examples. Some of it is.
>>7992011we need to go back.
>>7992026I think that after 40 years of VN history the genre exhausted itself, in japan at least. Also, I reckon that Visual Novels are very personal projects. And nowadays new generations don't have that same passion and creative drive from years ago. People today grew up spoiled and groomed into absolute pure consumerism. They got accustomed into thinking that everything has been created already and they just have to choose it from a list of products. That said, I get what you mean, about having the "better tools to make what was being made 30 years ago". But it will be personal passion projects. I don't think we will have ever again that mythical era build around the art, the mystery and the cool factor of the 80s-90s Japanese cultural movement.
>>7992161>And nowadays new generations don't have that same passion and creative drive from years ago. People today grew up spoiled and groomed into absolute pure consumerism. They got accustomed into thinking that everything has been created already and they just have to choose it from a list of products.Man if that does not describe the indie scene perfectly. A lot of "indie VNs" on itchio are just totally lacking in passion and soul. Feels like an attempt to fit in with an online subculture rather than a work of passion. Like they don't even really want to do it.
>>7991923>>7991947 already posted it, the PC-98 era was king for VN art.In terms of more modern stuff, I'm not sure if anything really stands out on that level... I guess I'll throw in a mention for Subahibi, not for the quality of any individual image per se but just because of its overall vibe and aesthetic.
>>7992394>VN art.All the games in that picture are Adventure Games. Not Visual Novels.
>>7992398YU-NO and Virgin Angel have entries on vndb but ok
>>7992394she is leaning like that one polnareff panel jej
still waiting :c
>>7993718If you want to hire someone, you better go hunting to VGen, Pixiv, or unironically, Twitter. You will find nothing here.
>>7993754I messaged a lot on Pixiv, including the artist of OP, little dice sadly. It is not going to be a long VN, and it is already all written, just need some art. :/
>>7991923I have this painting style kind of, look picwhat are the conditions you offer
>>7991947I absolutely love PC-98 pixel art. It's gorgeous and I want to learn how to do it well. Is the secret just well placed dithering patterns?
I'm also making a VN. How much do artists charge per background, character pose, and full-screen image?
>>7993812you can check in vgenthe catch is that selling a game means needing a commercial / merchandise license, which can be expensive depending on the artist
>>7993778shoot me an email we will talk it over
>>7991923>>7993718Give a synopsis of the vn
>>7992039A lot of adoration for pixel art comes from the necessity of aspiring solo wunderkind gamedevs hoping they can "learn everything" to make their "dream game". Pixel art is appealing because it appears very simple. The practice has been simplified in step with this. Look on itch.io at all the pixel art games that come out, they look putrid. Black (or very dark) single-pixel outlines, overly cartoonish style, and something about the palettes is off too.The problem to me seems, in the past there were limitations we wanted to push past, but now pixel art is actually a regression.
Are fetish visual novels the way to go? I've seen some do pretty well. I got an idea about one with a guy in a party, with his female party members getting fattened (dwarf barbarian, human rogue, and huge orc witch)
>>7993789The dithering (and by extension the limited color palette) is definitely a major part of what makes it unique yeah, I’ve hardly ever seen anyone else even try to emulate it
>>7993789How did the japanese manage to squeeze out so much detail with only 16 and less colors with only 4096 unique colors to choose from?
>>7993831Vgen looks interesting, thanks for the tip.Being geared towards creators and individual illustrations, it makes it hard to conceptualize and explain an entire project though. I'd like a more collaborative environment, not piece by piece requests. For example something like bulk discounts, or that I'd like to offer an artist 50% of the lifetime sales in exchange for lower initial rates, seems difficult to do on this site. I'll keep it as a possible resource however.
>>7994172In other words, i wish that that on top of seller pages, I could have a buyer page fully detailing what I want and have artists come to me too.
>>7994174that sounds closer to offering a below market job + revsharethe chances of getting someone skilled are going to be low for that, imohowever most artists do offer bulk discounts if you define a set amount of work upfront, as they save time on finding clientsfor commercial work they ask you to contact them, so you can present your plan and see what rates they offer
>>7994193If that's not something an artist would want then fine, but I figure it'd be more profitable for them in the end.
>>7994386basically you need to consider the opportunity cost from their point of viewthey could work for you or they can work on their own projects or normal-rate commissionsunless you already have traction (a following or a publisher deal), their project has greater chances of success than yours (since you found them, not the other way around)an alternate route you can take is participating in vn game jams and finding someone to collaborate and build trust first in a low-stakes context
>>7991947Oh fugg that’s beautiful. The Japs really did peak in the 90s
>>7992161It didn't exhaust itself or anything. The problem is gachaslop replaced VNs.
