/beg/ here,one metric that helps in not only growing your art skills but other forms of skills and hobbies is consistency, one of the easiest ways in trying to be consistent is to make the means of drawing more accessible. for example, if you are learning to draw traditionally with pen and paper, always place your pen and paper in your line of sight where you can always just grab the pen without any hurdles, you may have heard some folks say that "starting is the most difficult aspect to learning anything" and it is true, this strategy is a game changer and reduces the friction of starting to draw. here are the criterias (with which some are already mentioned) in order to do this properly,1. your tools/means should be in your line of sight even if you are not drawing and or planning to draw2. it should be effortless to pick up said tools/means with no physical obstacles3. get yourself a calendar (preferably a physical one, also in your line of sight) and mark every day that you draw no matter how long or short the drawing practice is. don't worry if you skipped a day or two, just try to focus on retaining your streak again.4. don't even think about setting up a time frame (e.g "i will practice 2 hours a day" or "i will practice only for 5 minutes") just let yourself draw until you feel like you're done.5. as pikat always says "fun before damentel" prioritize having joy with the drawing process as that incentivizes you to go back, i personally like to roughly do 20% to 10% serious practice and the rest 80% to 90% just to experiment and have fun while also using the "lazy" method by Marc brunet.Hope this helps.

I'm more interested in learning how to paint rather than do sketches -> line art -> color.This is my first practice drawing. Still not used to using my whole arm to draw so my wrist was hurting and had to keep taking breaks. I also don't know how to blend colors properly, I'm using Krita and I just used one of their blend brushes. It kinda sucks since I don't think the values match and the blending is ass. >cognitive drawing day 2>draw a female figure to the best of your ability without looking at any referenceIt took me 4 hours, which is way too long. I had issues with the arm doing the salute. I couldn't figure out the foreshortening or the anatomy. I had some problems with the torso as well but in the end I managed to make it look OK (to my eyes at least). You guys will probably find a lot of other problems at well, but I can't correct them because it would defeat the purpose of the exercise. I'll be happy if you point them out though.
