There are still palpable volumes here at points in the drawing and I wouldn't dismiss the whole thing, perhaps there's other ways in which to refine what you're doing but this is what would suggest. Train the lines to follow the form with directional shading that follows the forms you are trying to describe etc.

I think that something that might help you are cross contours (like in picrel). If you ever make a cross contour and you're not really sure which way the line should curve, then you probably should train your brain a little bit more. Find a reference that's in a similar perspective and make cross contours over it so you can get your brain used to which way things should face and how curved things are. If you still can't figure it out, post your drawing with the cross contours here or somewhere else where artists provide feedback and they'll likely tell you where you got your perspective wrong.tl;dr: Do cross contours.

I think this look/feeling might be because my anatomical knowledge is okay since I enjoy drawing muscles and I've dedicated some time to learning it, but there's still just so much to learn about other aspects that make drawings look good that it ends up creating this sort of unpleasant mix. The legs are different sizes. The vastus medialis on the right leg is just wrong as if there's no sartorius or adductors. The arms have no flow and the artist doesn't understand where the bicep, brachialis, and extensors attach. The most obvious violation is the right bicep which is way way too lateral. Like, you should be able to see the brachialis and short head from that angle. And the overall head shape is just wrong. The left side protrudes way too far. But the issue that caused all of this is relatively simple. Anon didn't use a reference so it looks like someone just mashed a bunch of muscles onto a gesture or construction.

I'm using the pathing tools in GIMP to experiment with new techniques and I really like how this piece is coming out so far, but for the love of god I can't figure out the damn hands. I started out trying to replicate Goodbyellow's art style by hand but even modeling after his work, I can't get hands that I'm happy with here. All lines are 4 pixels wide, if it matters. To give context, I've been drawing on and off for a couple years, but started taking it more seriously as of this month. I'm still very amateur and feel like I'm pawing my way around. I have done very little beyond doing basic form, proportion, and trying some perspective, but I am now trying to move into values as well, with hopes of eventually moving to full color. Firstly, I am unsure of how to really practice. My routine is essentially a Bargue plate, some light construction work like Reilley heads and basic shapes, and some sketchdailies. I try to aim for at least an hour, but I'll often go closer to two, and moreso six on days off work.If anyone has better suggestions, like ditching Bargue for Bridgman, or doing hard anatomy versus sketchdaily poses, I would appreciate them. I have trouble tracking my own progress, even with keeping older drawings, so I'd like something very, uh, obvious? Static? Where it's basically a yes or no opposed to the vagueness drawing usually feels.My main issue is still heads and faces, particularly the 3/4ths to profiles, and tilted angles. The eyes, nose, and chin specifically. Secondly, I have serious issues with any kind of imaginative drawing. I don't have aphantasia, quite the opposite, but I just completely blank out if I even try thinking of something I would want to draw with my current abilities.
