>>
>>7999839
Honestly I would have gone for a display if I had money and trad skills to begin with but after investigating some of the issues it can have I settled for screenless and I have no issues with it.

Also this poster >>7999838 might be right on the Large size since it could make the drawing experience feel better since the size disparity between tablet and monitor is lessened. Or you could just reduce the drawing area your tablet like I do, but it becomes a bit cramped if you expect to use the entire monitor.
>>
>>7999852
>i just want to cook and do marriage things
And that's exactly what you should do. Otherwise what was the point into getting married? You will have the best time of your life from it. So don't ruin it, and get rid of anything that threatens that little happy time. Good Shit happens only one time in life, and fades away faster than you can imagine.
>>
>>7999835
any medium tablet or larger will do
I used a cheap screenless one for the first couple of years, now I'm using a mid-range 22in display tablet
both work fine, but I do find the display one more fun and end up drawing more with it
>>
Problem I have with display tablets is space. I have a largish desk that fits two monitors comfortably and I still wouldn't have a place to put it when not in use. I just slide my screenless into a drawer, takes 5 seconds.

I can't imagine drawing for hours with my sight down even at a slight angle. I need my eyes and head straight forward, and my arm on the desk in a relaxed position.
I get the "fun part" of a screen tablet, but you can't sustain that "fun action" for 12 hour a day. You will destroy yourself.
>>
>>7999866
That's his ticked to salvation, you need someone who can take you out from this cursed path to destruction. Two "artists" coupled together is a recipe for disaster.

Doing accuracy exercises will help you a lot at this stage. These show you how to do it digitally but you can also do it in trad with tracing paper and some colored pens/pencils for the redlining, which is what I did

Find art you like and copy it in addition to drawing from photo ref/real life, you can gain a lot from trying to mimic how other artists do things
>>
>>7999938
i'll try to make this part of my routine. i could always do the breakdown phase digitally, draw traditionally, scan my drawing and then check my accuracy.

THANKS ANON!!
WOW! That's a pretty sexy body, just the type I like to draw. SAVED!
About the "schedule cleaning up", I found the opposite to work. If I have 20 minutes, then the drawing must take 20 minutes, no matter how shitty it ends up looking. So the art needs the "clean up treatment" unfortunately we can't modify "time", so we can only modify our "methods" of producing art and art itself. That's why I chose to make my stuff "story driven" more than "stylistically artistic". Gotta simplify design to the max to do it as fast as possible. Also working on a relatively small size canvas helps a lot too.

draw something that's easier and in your comfort zone.
or do study of your drawing to see what went right.
or draw something harder, outside your comfort zone so you have an excuse to fail. that could be something you've never drawn before, using a new medium or something more complex than your last drawing or draw the same thing, but with a time limit.

You are relying too much on the model and the model has too short hips and a disfigured ass.
The ass can be fixed later but the hips need to be a bit longer.
You also made her right arm too short and her left forearm starts out of place.
Just fix that and keep trucking and fucking, mate.

The ones I always keep checking for available mentorship slots are Steve Huston, Nathan Fowkes, and Richard Smitheman. Richard was the most approachable, but sadly he's been dealing with health issues. From what I've heard, he still does mentorship sessions, just not as frequently.

The challenge is that many of these veteran artists eventually transitioned from offering one-on-one mentorships to selling courses instead. That said, if you dig around, you can still find great opportunities. For example, I found Sandra Duchiewicz and Sullivan Brown, both of whom are currently offering 1o1 sessions.

Another approach that has worked well for me is going to local art shows and meeting professional artists in person. I'll just ask them directly if they offer private critiques or mentorship. I actually became acquainted with one local professional this way, and now we occasionally share our work. He's a professional artist, and I'm just a hobbyist, but it's been a really valuable experience.

I think it has ideological roots. There's people who are convinced all humans are equal and people who fail just didn't apply themselves. Yet the difference of innate ability (iq, talent, whatever) is clear as day.

Perma/beg/ness is definitely real. I wonder whether long and intense 1:1 mentoring could help (like special ed), but I seriously doubt it. Either way the effort isn't worth it. There's so much to do and learn in the world, why be so stuck on art?

Basically a premium drawing experience with exception to screen size. Very nice for travel. One of the best color displays on the market if not the best. Expensive. If you plan to use CSP, look up memory usage. Depending on your RAM you might be limited on how many layers you can use or how much undo history you want to save. With an M4 16gb you probably won't have memory issues but that's pricey.

I've heard from other anons is that tracing can be good for practice like tracing down the forms and shapes of a subject and etc.

However, I don't really want to add tracing to my learning process since I don't want to spend more time. If I wanted to feel the forms of my subject. I would do some construction and a little bit of copying by line. Plus drawing by eye also helps me train my accuracy. So anons of /ic/ what am I missing out on tracing?

I know zilch about painting and haven't ever done it, but I was dicking around on Paint 3D and it was fun. How do artists figure out shading and coloring, is it basically just winging it til shit looks good? Also are there any good free paint programs or should I go ahead and "buy" SAI or CSP?

>>
>>8000787
I don't paint but in drawing I figured out what I know about shading by autistically copying images from reference and paying attention to the lightness/darkness ("value") of different regions. I'm not very good, though.

I use Krita for image manipulation, it's free and you can paint stuff in it, no idea if it's particularly good for it or not, though. I hate its UI with a burning passion, but it gets the job done when I need to render a character or something.

>>
>>8000801
It's beg cope. The ability to copy a reference 1 to 1, or at least where you're capturing the essence of the ref, is a prerequisite to being good at imagination/memory drawing. You're just missing construction and composition. But if you can copy well you can probably also do construction. So really all that's left is coming up with ideas that are appealing.
>>
Soon I'll graduate from being a printer... any day
>>
>>8000827
>You're just missing construction and composition.
And gesture, failing to understand the form and the flow of the picture, you miss everything if you only copy what you see.
>But if you can copy well you can probably also do construction
Most can't. People that use references can't draw without them or they always draw the same 2-3 poses, lamest shit i've ever seen , what's even the point in drawing.
>>
>>8000824
It's from youtubers that prey on insecure high beg/ints with videos like "I could copy but I couldn't draw from imagination. Here's how I learned to draw like Kim Jung Gi." And then they just describe a natural progression from copying to composing.
>>
there is no such thing as true originality as everyone is making things they saw or were inspired by from something or someone else so it doesn't really matter if you copy something but change the details a bit or the orientation :3
>>
>>8000829
Most guys that copy still use construction and gesture to understand the reference. They aren't like scanning from top to bottom and rendering. You still have to understand the form unless you're one of those autistic savants.

>>
>>8000942
There's nothing wrong with using as many references as you want when they're helpful, but, when you have an original image in your mind it's often almost impossible to find an EXACT match for it among existing references, even for poses that seem like they should be simple and common. If you can't draw from imagination then you'll always be limited. You need to at least be able to modify and combine existing references (and ultimately you'll find that this just means, you need to be able to fully draw from imagination anyway)

Using references is the equivalent of using savestates, you didn't actually beat the game

My stabilization sits at 6 on CSP but I can draw straight lines without. I think anyone using a tablet (unless they're going for that squiggly line styled look) should always have at least a small amount of stabilization to mimic the friction of paper but I would not recommend using stabilization higher than 12.
I only rotate canvas when drawing long straight lines. I used to do a fuckton of line control drawings, though my lines are much thicker than yours which makes it much easier to control. I think my brush size is between 25 and 30, I'm trying to use 17 for lineart but haven't gotten good at lineart to make anything consistent yet.

Is there a trick to learning how to draw? I'm a complete beginner
>>
>>8001141
No, there's no trick. You simply learn to draw by drawing. Don't fall for any distractions or tricks that get you to draw less. Just Draw!™ things you like to keep things fun and engaging for the long term. There are no secret tricks or shortcuts, just 1000s of hours of drawing.

Beautiful figure composition! I love the hair on the elf girl!
>>8000247
This doodle is fucking awesome, I hope you keep posting more like this! Also, many "mainstream" sites and socials has taken 4chan's naughty place today, like Pixiv or even twitter/x. This is a pretty chill place actually.
>>8000493
That's not bad at all. It is a correct figure study. Keep doing these simple and fast figure sketches, make thousands of them, and you will master drawing guaranteed.
>>8001058
I'm not gone! I was in the manga general doing a quick page here >>8000276

Are there any resources for learning how to draw backgrounds and other objects? I want to move beyond 1girl white void.

i think no matter what i do i wont develop a "visual library" for mechanical shit, i think i have a decent / not subhuman memory but it feels so soulless to essential rip off a bunch of things a mash them together.
>>
>>8001179
>rip off a bunch of things a mash them together.
every image in existence is kind of like that unless it's complete abstraction
>>
>>8001141
Lol.
No.
Just start by copying things directly.

>but it feels so soulless to essential rip off a bunch of things a mash them together.
the trick is to do a bunch of thumbnails (actual thumbnails, they need to be SMALL) and abuse the closure principle (your brain fills in and completes the picture) and THEN use references
>>
>>8001141
I hope you like boxes
>>
hopped on reddit and they say you should be using a reference at all times when you are starting off. is this true??
>>
>>8001201
define using a reference

>>8001205
i guess having an image of the pose you intend to draw or sumin like that instead of drawing from imagination

I quit for the like 10th time ~2 months back because I pushed myself to do something far beyond my ability and burned out, but I am back once again
just doodling and warming up to get back into the swing of it. gonna continue with the Proko and Preston Blair stuff since that at least gets me drawing
we cringe on

this is cool, reminds me of stuff from @TheFaiao

I know it’s simple but the doodles really aren’t bad at all, the mushrooms are clean and appealing and the blob forms are convincing. You should definitely keep going

Pretty much yeah. You don’t have to do a 1:1 copy of the ref. You can take a pose and slightly adjust it, or take a real life photo and draw an anime version of it, etc.

theres too many things in existence. try to go for precision and not everything/general. its the difference between sherlock holmes and watson. holmes ONLY learns and knows what he needs to solve mysteries, a straight and narrow path. Watson is a generalist, he knows a little of everything. They both are good in their own way and compliment each other. A team of artists for example should also be composed of specialists and generalists.

i digress. everything you dont know you can just look up nowadays, no shame in that
