Trying to get better at full figures since I've kind of been stuck in a rut of just drawing heads and attaching a bust to them. I actually seem to have difficulty with drawing figures as one contiguous whole from the outset, I've kind of resorted to drawing a bunch of disconnected floating parts and then connecting them together to make the figure instead. The typical gesture drawing process just doesn't seem to jibe with my brain for some reason. Do these characters feel like they're on the same ground plane? Do they feel balanced? The lighter spots are either scarring (suggested by the shape and color) or possibly his true skin color showing where lighter soiling on his skin has been rubbed off. The colors and shapes of the markings are determined by and suggest what they are to the viewer. What is the purpose of the markings on the woman? That would go a long way to making them feel more natural. If you look at the reference, though, you'll see that the lighter colored sections are only a little bit lighter than he rest of his skin.>>8009081lol based

As for the hair, I made it that long only because I was trying to figure out how the reference piece did the hair (the super long part is supposed to be a scarf idea). The shoe's a good call. Today’s skulls from imagination. I’m basically happy with the front and side views. The front view still feels like it has some “muscle” on it for some reason but I checked the vertical proportions and they’re spot on so I’m just going to move on.The 3/4ths view turned out ok but I did kinda BS the construction and have to jiggle some parts around until they looked right so I’ll need to figure out what went wrong and correct it. Some individual details wrong too but that’s not as big a deal as getting the perspective and construction right.I do feel like I’m making progress and now that I know I can get the proportions of the front view and side view correct I’m more confident that I can figure out the other angles. Just a matter of keeping at it and continuing to chop away at the mistakes

How does one deliberately shift style? Just brute force studies of the aesthetic you're aiming for while trying to pick apart what makes the style the style? It feels like it's frustratingly difficult to get a hold on the specifics of a look when the look is a product of its individual parts: practicing the parts in isolation feels unproductive because it's hard to judge "is this how they're using color" when comparing against references that are the use of color AND line AND composition AND lighting, etc. But then the alternative of practicing all of the parts as a cohesive whole feels like biting off way more than you can reasonably chew or process at a time.
