This is not a sketch, the finished drawing is the sketch... It just doesn't feel like a sketch because everything is placed perfectly on top of the dogshit construction.

It's more of a deconstruction of a construction... done 4-5 times. Almost as if it's sculpting a trashy turbo /prebeg/ construction into a body.

>everything is placed on top of the construction
Correct, that's how refining a drawing works.
>almost as if it's sculpting
You're getting closer to the answer. In a way drawing is like sculpting.
Example: I construct the pose, then refine it over and over again until it's as correct as I can make it, but the finished piece isn't exactly the same as the initial sketch

Negative 007 construction is construction and a sketch is a sketch.
>You're getting closer to the answer. In a way drawing is like sculpting.
Yeah but that's obviously not what's happening in that process.

redoing a construction 5 times only to draw the sketch in a completely different place with completely different proportions is not normal, no one does this.
>>
>>8012193
I don't believe he AI traces based on the process video, that's why I asked why bother making something that looks like AI. You have no clue, even very good artists massage the pixels A LOT and don't necessarily use some clean construction. It's a little sus how much searching he does for how many similar figures he has drawn but you'd think he'd be better at copying if he was copying from AI ref

Could be hiding the drawing beneath a key croma. Could be using pure ref , i really don't care about the way people cheat.

The drawing process is not normal, the construction is pre beg tier and the pose is a generic AI pose with a broken spine and broken anatomy.

Posted previously asking for feedback on the coloring and shading and was told I should increase contrast and saturation otherwise she looks like a background character.

Didn't get a chance to follow up with questions but have been trying to understand increasing contrast and saturation.

Contrast - would this be "more" shades and highlights? Right now I only have 1 shading layer.

Saturation - If I like the colors I chose for the flats, should I increase the saturation of my shading colors? Or did I make bad initial color choices?

possibly? I used to be able to knit for longer periods of time than I can draw, but it takes a lot less active focus unless you're doing lace or complex patterns or a sock. but even the complex patterns aren't that bad once you get it in your muscle memory, meanwhile with drawing it feels like every second is constantly draining energy
it's like a glider vs an engine powered aircraft
the glider still takes energy to get off the ground, but once it's up it can just coast without burning fuel, whereas an airplane is burning fuel from takeoff to landing
you could probably decrease the rate of energy consumption by drawing things which are more simple, but idk my stuff is already borderline cave painting simple

Running late with this challenge from the previous thread. I think the most important lesson I took away from this one is that you DO NOT obsess over inane details and minute placement deviations, try to make it readable at the very least and move along, there's no reason to turn a two hour drawing into a 12 hour one by spinning your wheels.

Reminds me a bit of classic Legend of Zelda art.
I think you should push the shadows and light areas more. Like those dark strokes under the cape. Do that more on the shirt and pants. On the hair as well.
The light in the hand should be a focal point, but it's barely demanding attention. Background color isn't helping either with how similar it is to the clothes.

You’re still at the stage of absorbing the language and learning how to use it. Stylistically, it isn’t cohesive yet. The ears, eyes, nose, mouth, abs, and hatching all feel like they come from different styles. Great effort keep going. The only way you’ll get comfortable and learn how to harmonize your style is by drawing more.

only early begs and /adv/ have a style, one because it's copying others and the other one because he already mastered the fundamentals and can apply his own signature to his drawings.

You are low beg or pre beg, choose whichever, it makes no difference. Eliminate the metadata by copy pasting it into paint and saving it as a jpg.

Honestly and unironically just draw boxes and cylinders and spheres. Don’t be afraid to make your boxes a little “rubbery”, see if you can bend and twist them.
Practicing drawing wrapping lines is a big one. Take a sphere or cylinder or any other 3D object and draw lines that wrap around the surface. Once you can do that you’ll feel a lot more confident in being able to make things “come out of the paper”

I keep hearing about 'project based learning', mostly from Zapata. I've realized that the way I learn drawing is totally different to how I learned 3D
when I learned 3D I usually started with a goal in mind and worked from there
it always started with me wanting to achieve a certain look, researching it, learning how to do it, trying it, experimenting etc
it was never a process of 'I have to learn all the fundamentals of 3D modeling and texturing and lighting before I can attempt this'
I think the difference that stops me doing this with drawing is that it doesn't really have solid answers like 3D does. if I want to know how to make PS1 models or texture environments, there are technical concepts you can learn and limitations that don't have much room for interpretation. there's a science to UV unwrapping for example, but there's no single answer to the question of how to make figures since there are countless ways. the way you solve problems in 3D is very different to drawing, basically
I've tried copying some art I like and it doesn't feel like I'm getting closer to anything. draw is hell

It looks like you're drawing those lines all over the body but you are just drawing them because you feel they need to be there. It doesn't feel like they are following any actual 3d shape. Here's a shitty phone finger doodle to show what I mean. The lines I drew wrap around the shape in a meaningful way.
>>
>>8012884
nah, i think this is bait. nice try.
>>
>>8012883
You're not Michael Hampton. You draw them around to check if the orientation is correct and if the form is correct.
Example: Middle drawing, bent leg, these contours describe a form that is way flatter than a thigh should be. And you'd notice it too if you wrapped them lines around.
>>
>Do I want to learn from an esteemed artist or anon

>>

i understand what you mean but show me a single example of a gesture where the cross contours go all the way around. i don't see any. i think describing the form falls under construction which is a separate phase of the figure drawing process.

NTA. You're right that they indicate perspective and that part you've pretty much gotten correct. Other anons are correct that you're not properly indicating the form because the velocity is wrong. They should be curving harder at the edges to show a cylinder (more or less). Drawing all the way through is a good way to get a feel for it but you don't need to do it once you develop that.

On the one hand, a month is literally nothing. On the other hand, don’t just sit around and wait for the gains to magically materialize. That’s how people stagnate forever, they have an “exercise” mentality where they think that if they just do the motions over and over then they’ll eventually get better. Doesn’t work like that. If your shit looks fucked up then you have to figure out why and correct it and make the drawing look good. Like, now. Otherwise you’ll never improve. You can do it, you just have to be willing to put in the time and fail a lot before you succeed.

Start with a simple story. Sanderson is a pretty good place to start. If you have a clear idea of what your story is, everything else becomes clearer.

Nice work. I'm not a fan of the negative space inside the silhouette, it's too eye catching. Keep going. The circle is a nice decoration.

>>8012874
Gesture is an advanced exercise and the culmination of your current knowledge. Keep doing them, but don't neglect the fundamentals, draw boxes, pipes, triangles, add, remove, stretch them... have fun. If you're following Hampton, I would advise slowing down and start with something like Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. It teaches the basic lingo and has some nice exercises.

Guys, I don't get it. I always see people say that rendermonkeying is this common beg trap where begs learn how to render super good before they understand form, anatomy, perspective etc, thus giving this illusion that they are better than they are. Just because rendering is apparently this easy thing to learn compared to everything else.
Well, I've been trying to learn how to render for years and I still can't do it to any level of competency. And it's not for lack of putting in the hours. Even basic shit like "draw a circle, shade it, and then blend the colors together" looks like complete ass when I do it compared to the ctrl+alt+paint tutorials.
Also, no matter what colors I choose to shade with, it never looks right. I understand warm light = cold shadow and what not, but when I apply it just looks weird, like the skin is bruised rather than shaded blue.
I literally just want to draw anime girls bro, that's all, I'm not asking to be the next Wlop. But rendering never seems to click with me for whatever accursed reason.
Please, for the love of god and all that is holy, tell me those of you that figured it out, how you did it.

first you need to be able to render in grayscale cleanly.
this video has all the info you need
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa8lkr5_nM8
just practice spheres until you can do it cleanly. use the ellipse guide to get a perfect circle. put things of separate layers so you can test things non-destructively. use big strokes so it's clean. for the soft edges use a big soft brush. lower the brush flow (density in CSP) so you can slowly add it.
then you can tackle other basic forms, and then color. Christophe Young's videos are good for that

Hey what's your stance on twitter artists competing with AI?
Also, do you draw?
Just curious

They are "AI-enhanced" or some shit. This singaporean guy I follow just makes vtuber and gachashit merch that he prompts reference for and makes bank in cons.
Anyone with a profile after 2022 is using AI directly or otherwise.

Nah, these are all made up words, so I will skip. Probably fake muscles that don't actually exist.

>>
>>8013818
Don’t just copy the reference exactly. Stylize it, adjust the pose a bit, etc. Even making minor changes to a reference is almost as hard as just drawing from imagination anyway so it should give you plenty of satisfaction
>>
>>8013859
I just need to draw the deltoid, the trapezius and the largest back muscle. The center void that they form I can fill with black and leave the imagination of the viewer.
>>
>>8013855
Draw the item they’re sitting in first then draw the person-draw from life.

krita just crashed on a 1000x1000px canvas with 4 layers, out of nowhere and i lost a very nice sketch of a character design, because it didnt make an autosave at all

i suspect that if i save a file its not enough and i literally need to quit the app and open It again for the backup to appear

i wish death on everybody that has ever worked on this software.
