Is stained glass art considered /trad/? I just made the head to my touhou stained glass project. This is my first large project, so I think it came out okay. I'm currently trying to figure out how to do the face details, I'm really nervous of fucking it up.

/beg/ here, a month ago I ground up some red rocks from the beach (probably just clay bricks) in an effort to make red ochre, posted about it here, and haven't tried anything with it until today. Behold my first time using charcoal pencils, my first time drawing on wood, my first time making egg tempera paint, my first time using a paintbrush since elementary school, a lot of firsts today but it was a lot of fun. The neolithic artist at Catalhoyuk whose vulture art I was copying has totally shown me up (but his canvas was a whole wall). I need to figure out how to reliably make fine lines. At the end I realized I could make finer lines by using the chopstick I mixed the paint with, but of course you run out of paint immediately in the stroke when you do that.My poor oc's neck is broken /blogpost

If it's shit people are going to handle I've accumilated a few odd spools of lead-free solder used by plumbers from yardsales and shit. I've painted all over a wooden board. This boy and his older sister are watching the distant sacred hill, where vultures come to guide the recently deceased to the heavens. I need to figure out what a loincloth looks like in sitting positions...The nail art brush I bought worked out way better for fine coloring than the paintbrushes I was using before. I did mess up pretty often, like on the girl's shoulder markings, the vulture's wings etc etc. I felt like I was working with and against surface tension of the paint droplets.The charcoal pencil didn't mark this smooth wooden surface nearly as easily as it did the cheap wooden plank I used as scratch paper. And the egg tempera paint (or the nail art brush not sure which) marked the smoothed surface very easily, but not the rougher sides of the plank. The little bit of chalk I used worked fine on the smooth surface. I wonder if charcoal pencils are realistic if I want to keep painting blocks like this. It was fun though /blog

Then go over with your paints. Speaking on the surface tension issue, which of the paints were you having issues with, and is your DIY ochre also an egg tempera? If your ochre is just watered down clay AND you were painting that on top of the white egg tempera, I assume your troubles stem from the egg tempera being hydrophobic (I am assuming an egg yolk is full of fats).Anyhow, you make comfy, wholesome work. FinishedI haven't done a study like this in a long time and I felt like I was waffling. I can't render digitally at all but I feel like I still don't know how to gently shade on paper. Plus my proportions are still off but I know what I Should be doing to stay more accurate. Being able to meet people face to face is a great way to also explain the story of the work and tourists tend to like that. So yeah, all my recent painting sales have gone to market goers. Except one that was my neighbour insisted upon. But having original work is a selling point, people pick up on that and sometimes people tell me that they think it's great that I am not even selling prints.

>>8044464just get soft willow. Vine doesn't really get that dark, it hangs out in a 'grey' zone and it's really scratchy. Willow has a much smoother feel. Buy a stump or two too. Don't over-blend, but it's okay to stump a bit to achieve some gradation.
