Have there ever been cases of legitimately great digital artists who have been drawing and posting for a decade or more never getting more than a few thousands followers online at best?

Why is it always followers count and social media exposure for you niggers? What about hobby? Or drawing simply because you like to draw in itself????

Literally the guy in >>8040693 seems to

there are artists who landed a place in the industry early and have gone from job to job without keeping much presence on social media at all. most of these artists are insanely skilled but barely exist online, maybe they'll have some obscure old blogspot and get handfuls of likes from a close circle of friends. don't think of follower numbers as a metric of success
>>
>>8041928
>great digital artists
Doesn't even exist. Digital is for hacks who can't even draw.
>>
Several Chinese artists I followed on twitter but I think some of them are active elsewhere. There is one guy, really good trad anime artist with an obvious fetish, barely gets any likes. I know one of these days he'll pop off but it's clear he's been at it for years judging by his pixiv. Sorry I can't remember his user right now.

>Tony Montana
Why do people idolize a low IQ thug who brought his penny-pinching poverty mindset with him as he gained money, failed upwards purely because everyone overestimated him, and somehow thought a cokehead skank would be a good mother?
>>
>>8042133
because all criminals are essentially retarded. their violence and ruthless 'tude gets them where they are. similar to the superrich people. they fashion themselves as elite only because they choose to explpoit others. it's a jungle mindset. tony the tiger.

you live in a society where women openly defend a child murderer as some sort of feminist statement.
>>
>>8042138
You'd be correct if this was Tony Soprano, but this is Tony Montana. In the movie he eats the lemon out of the bowl you're supposed to use to wash your hands. He brings duffel bags full of money into the front door of a crooked bank, in broad daylight, to get it washed. The bathtub argument scene is the exact same kind of married squabble you'd see in a film where the main couple lives in Section 8 housing. He gets high off his own supply.

He is retarded compared to pretty much every other character in the story and seems to only gain opportunities because his superiors mistake his vacant empty stare and lack of yapping for cool introspection. It's a great movie, don't get me wrong - Al Pacino did a fantastic performance playing a retard.

But Tony Montana has almost no redeeming qualities.

>vacant empty stare and lack of yapping for cool introspection
isnt it more of an animal agression and viciousness?
>>
>>8042147
Nah he does that shit even when he's supposedly having a good time. Initially in the first few scenes I thought he might have been an unintentional sperg from back when psychopathy and autism were part of the same diagnosis, but really he's just stupid. I'm pretty sure he's EXACTLY the type of thug who would fail the breakfast test.
>>
>>8042148
tony does have breakfast in the movie tho

why are you tradfags always so bitter about digital art?
inferiority complex?

Is that such a bad thing? I miss the days of Deviantart where people were happy with their tens of fans.
I suppose you need those thousands, just for a couple of comments these days though, so maybe that's the difference?

I should have appreciated the comments I got on deviant art more...
every image started a small conversation. now it's nothing but "PEAK" "fire"
>>
>>8041928
You're obsession with "followers" tells me everything I need to know about you.
>>
>>8042195
Yep. You just know they're looking to blame external factors for their lack of progression and success. No artist worth their salt speaks and thinks like them.
Just a bunch of bitter midwits. There's good reason why they never post their work.
>>
>>8042255
I vaguely recall an older gent was learning art, and I'd cheer him on in the deviantart comments, and there'd always be a back and forth. I can't remember a single thing we spoke of, or even what his art was like, but I think fondly of the interactions all the same.
The internet really has turned to shit.

That speaks for street smarts.

>Have there ever been cases of legitimately great digital artists who have been drawing and posting for a decade or more never getting more than a few thousands followers online at best?
I assume there must be.

It would depend on how often they post art, and how much mass appeal the stuff they make has. I imagine sometimes people advertise to the wrong audience and don't get many followers.

If someone barely posts there art online, even if it's great they might get a lot of attention on a tweet or something, but that might not translate to many followers.
>>
>>8041928
Yeah it all just depends on what they want. Most people measure greatness by numbers. But some measure it by authenticity, passion and style. You wouldn't have heard of them because they dont seek to be known or advertise themselves, and find enough support for where they are. Some artists actually fear the spotlight because the bigger the crowd the more toxic riffraff there are.

I think there is a contradiction here because if their art is posted online and legitamately good, they cannot stay at a few thousand very long, and posting online at all indicates they have a desire to be known online. The few good artists just show them to their friends, discord groups, or store fronts.
>>
>>8046750
it's also dependant on how good they are at self promotion
>>
>>8042255
>ortunities because hi
normie onslaught. to yearn for greater numbers on a screen invites meaningless divides between people who want to engage in thoughtful commentary and those who are scrolling past your work and think nothing of it but for a moment "cool" and move on to forget your art, you and that you exist.
>>
>>8041928
art is kind of hit or miss your work might get accepted and appreciated years after you make it or perhaps even after your death... it requires right mind and social setting for it to be accepted and popularized.

Fleeting emotion that doesnโ€™t actually lead to more art; similar to spite. You would know that if you drew instead of proding people.
>>
>>8041997
That's not true for all of them. Some are incredible illustrators that would shit on everyone here.
>>
>>8041928
I rather have 10 followers who pay me to draw, than 1k followers who watch me draw. My hobby pays me and that makes me the happiest boy.
>>
>>8041965
>Why is it always followers count and social media exposure for you niggers?
Both of these things are easy to translate into money
>Or drawing simply because you like to draw in itself????
You can draw way more if you get to draw for money, seems like a no brainer really.

If you even slightly consider your words to be true I'm afraid you will never make it.

A following is but a byproduct of an initiative that is recognized. To be recognized in itself is not a goal. To be recognized by itself is not even a positive thing as opposed to the value you wish to extract from said recognition (aka >90k followers but they're all Chinese/Indian and do nothing but make AI models of your work to generate feet pictures).

If you wanted money you could do other things for less effort, live amicably and then drawfag what you'd like (possibly being recognized in the process). If you wanted love and attention you could do things for people who are near and meaningful to you (possibly becoming an irreplaceable artisan in your culture of choice). But no, you've decided to be a stupid motherfucker who saw 1-2 artists with a following (without knowing them personally) then somehow grew envious of their position without understanding how they got there. Now I gotta read this sort of bullshit before you vainly disappear into nothing - hoping nobody actually heard you - as you draw your final pathetic breath.
>>
I'm seconding this. >>8041989 Back when I was on tumblr, I ended up following one artist who turned out to be an actual illustrator for Magic cards. But their posts would never go above 150 likes. I'm reminded of them whenever I or someone conflate online popularity with skill or sucess.
